30 / APR / 05 - Drink and fight and drink and fight...

Hey all,

Going out to see a group called the Mudmen tonight.  If you ever get a chance to check out some of there music you should definitely give it a listen.  Any bar band that uses bagpipes in their show is definitely worth a moment of your time at least!

Oh, and I'm determined to get the "With Apologies" supporting pics up before next weeks write up is done and up for viewing.  I actually forgot all about them the past couple days.  Sorry!  (but thanks Thorny for reminding me)

Anyway, not sure when I'll be back from the bar, but I'll post again when I am.

Later,

-Ed

28 / APR / 05 - Happy Birthday!

28 / APR / 05 - It had to happen sometime...

For the first time in...well...ever I believe, the "Dear mom" section has it's new letter added before the break of dawn!

Boo-Yah!  Ed write the letter good!

Yeah, yeah, I know.  Maybe before I go all hot and heavy with the self-congratulations I should try and get those pics up in the "With Apologies" section that I promised.

Soon, I swear!

More later folks,

-Ed

Shortly after 11:00 CST - Somebody needs a nap...

Hey folks,

I haven't forgotten about posting supporting pics to this week's "With Apologies" page.  I'll be getting to them later on after I am no longer in a state of waking slumber.

Sorry about slowing down the evolution...you know, of Noname...because the pics are supposed to show how he...you know what, maybe you'd be better off reading the "WA" section instead of me trying to describe what I mean through the fog of drowsiness.

Okay, off to bed.

-Ed

PS:  Yes, I'm posting new blog entries done on the same day above the old ones now.  I figure it makes more sense this way.

******

27 / APR / 05 - I know, it's about bloody time...

"With Apologies" has now been posted without the supporting pics to go with it.  Those I will add when I get home.

Hoping to blog ya again later, but for now it's back to work.

No, not site work, the boring kinda work that I get paid for.  Damn my need to eat and have shelter!

Later,

Ed

************************************************

26 / APR / 05 - "Acquired Tastes"

Instead of doing the same old boring " the strip has been updated" post I was going to mix things up this week and write it in spanish, but it turns out that I don't know how to speak spanish so...

"The Strip" has now been updated with another attempt at humor.  "With Apologies" will be up by around noonish CST.

Later,

-Ed

PS:  I don't know why, but the site has been acting weird lately.  Not loading, loading all screwed up, not allowing me to edit it...  In the morning I'm going to try to talk with my provider and see if I can find out why this is all happening.

Until then, sorry if you guys have any trouble viewing the site.  Trust me, I'm more annoyed about this than anyone.

10:00 CST - It must be nice to be born with a short term memory...

Sadly though, I was not.

You'd think that would be enough of a life challenge that I'd get a special parking space in front of stores though wouldn't you?  I mean it would make it much easier to remember where I parked if the car was always right there when I walked out.  Anyway...

The good news is that the "With Apologies" is pretty much done and just needs to be proof read (over and over thanks to functional illiteracy) before being posted.

The bad news is that the "With Apologies" text file is on my computer at work and I forgot to e-mail it to myself before I left this morning.

I'm still thinking of going back in this morning to get the file, but the longer I sit at home, the less attractive that options seems to be.  So most likely the WA write up will be posted either just before, or just after midnight tonight.

Don't worry though, the write up isn't integral to understanding the subtleties of strip about a guy eating pickles.  So not reading it till later shouldn't hamper your ability to enjoy today's strip.

Oh yeah, and there are some pics that go with it this time too.  I'll add them the next morning when I get home from work.

And in case anyone from work is reading this, no, I don't spend all my time at work working on the site.  No really, I swear.  I only do Geek Tragedy related stuff on my breaks.  Yeah, that's it, just on my breaks!

Ass coverage complete!

Later,

-Ed

************************************************

25 / APR / 05 - No sketches, no hair, but...

I did buy a webcam on the weekend though.

Now I seriously doubt that I'm going to be incorporating that little purchase into the site, but who knows.  Maybe I'll branch out my artistic practices into the realm of sock puppetry and put on weekly show for y'all.

But for now I'll just stick with the strip I think.  Which, by the way is done and ready to be posted come midnight (CST).

Anyway, that's it for now folks.  I'm off to make a pact with the devil to make sure the snow that keeps trying to fall either stops, or doesn't stick around long enough to pile up.  Don't worry though, I won't sell my soul or anything, but maybe I can bake him some cookies.

Everybody loves chocolate chip!

Later,

-Ed

PS:  Hey there Thorny!

************************************************

23 / APR / 05 - I look like Opie...

That's it.  I'm growing my hair out all one length again.  End of story.

Went to get my hair cut, and in the end I decided I'd just get a trim.  Just an inch off is all I asked for.  Maybe I should've given my instructions in metric, because what I got was in no way only an inch off!

*sigh*

Anyway, this week's strip is going pretty good so far.  At least the pencils seem to be.  We'll see how they look after I slap some ink, and colour on them though.

Still hoping to get some sketches posted by Monday, but we'll see.

That's it for now folks.  I'm off to go hat shopping.

Later,

-Ed

************************************************

22 / APR / 05 - On the down side it'll mean I'll have to change my pic...

Hey folks,

I have a bunch of running around to do today so I wasn't sure if I'd get another chance to post anything later.

I'm going to try and have a few more sketches (non-Elvis related) to put up on the site this weekend, so keep a look out for those.

Plus I've now officially been approved to be listed on www.onlinecomics.net, so welcome to everyone and anyone who happens to stumble upon the site from there.

Other than that nothing much to report.  I am getting a haircut today though.  Thinking of going for a much shorter style than  I usually sport, and maybe even dying my hair black, blackish, or something along those lines.  Truth be told though, I'll probably just end up getting the same sort of trim I usually do.

Hmm...maybe it's all this drawing Elvis that has me thinking of the change...

Anyway, later,

-Ed

PS:  Oh yeah, thank you Leslie, and of course my mom, for the helpful feedback on my latest Elvis sketch.

************************************************

23:00 CST - UPDATE: Ooops!  Sorry folks, I fell asleep before getting the "Dear Mom" letter up today.  It'll be up by morning though.  Sorry mom!

21 / APR / 05 - A face not even a mother can love...

Yeah, so I knew when I posted it that my little Elv(ish) sketch didn't really look too much like The King.  In fact, this would be the reason why I described said sketch as "the one I am least embarrassed by", rather than "the most supremely holy etching of the divine that has ever graced the eyes of man."

However this didn't stop my mother, a devout Elvis fan, from sending me an e-mail demanding that I never soil his rock n' roll majesty's name ever again by in anyway linking it to a sketch like the one I just did.

Be sure to read more about my mother loving Elvis more than her own son later today in the "Dear Mom" section when I post this week's letter.

Blog ya later folks,

-Ed

******

11:00 CST - Another kick at The King...

Here's the latest sketch of the young elvis.  I think I'm starting to zero in on him now, and I'll be moving over to the Vegas style Elvis soon.

Now I'm just going to sit back and wait for the flame mail from my mother.

Later,

-Ed

20 / APR / 05 – I’m going to dream about Elvis tonight dammit! I just know it…

Howdy folks,

Been a while since I’ve posted an entry of any real substance, but allow me to make up for that now.

First off, I spent most of my free time tonight looking up reference material on, and then sketching various shades of Elvis. Rest assured this isn’t due to some sort of secret obsession I have with him, it’s because I’ve been tapped for a commission piece involving a GT type caricature of The King.

I’ve been focusing mostly on two different versions of him. The young Elvis, and the…uh…slightly less young Elvis. It’s been slow going so far, but I seemed to have turned a corner now and have started to build up a bit of speed.

I’ll be sure to show you a few of the sketches once I’ve hammered out a couple that I’m happy(ish) with. For now, I’ll give you a glimpse of one that I’m least embarrassed by.

Yeah, I know, keep trying Ed.

A one strip show…

As much as I would’ve liked it to be otherwise, it looks like I’ll still only have the time to produce one strip per week, at least for the time being. On top of the Elvis project I’m still pretty busy with site related projects that I’m trying my best to put to bed. Some of which you’ll be able to see bear fruit over the next couple weeks, while others are more of the "behind the scenes" variety and will go unnoticed.

One of the "unseen" projects I’m knee deep in is trying to get the business end of Geek Tragedy up and running. I’ve got a couple of conventions coming up (one is local, while another is in Hartford, CT) that I’d like to get dealers / artist tables for. Now in order to try and fulfill a fantasy I have of making a bit of spare change at these things, and do so in a way that is considered legal in the eyes of the law, I’ve been having to file / re-file / fax / pony express a lot of paper work to various people and government agencies. I’ll give you more info on these cons in the near future when things are a little more set in stone.

Oh, and in case anyone was wondering, the name of my company that I’ll be doing all my GT related and unrelated business through is Fat Mage Games. It was actually created a couple years ago, but due to a whole slew of hellish reasons that I’d rather not go into, it has remain fairly dormant.

Till now that is.

On a side note, my Air Miles card, which I use every time I get groceries, has the name of my business on it instead of my given name like most people’s cards do. What this means is that pretty much every time I finish my check-out the cashier will glance at the card and say to me "Have a nice day Mr. Games."

I often wonder if tellers just don’t bother reading the whole thing, or if they honestly believe that my parents were so insanely evil that they actually inflicted the name "Fat" on one of their children. I mean I took enough crap in school growing up with the name "Ed" (I had the "Mr. Ed" theme song memorized by the time I hit grade two thanks to all those people out there that thought singing it to me over, and over again was both clever and original…and by the way, it’s neither, so please stop doing it!) so I shudder to think what would’ve happened if I was saddled with that particular moniker.

I tell ya, it’s those little fake personal touches that the management forces their staff do that really helps to show the customer just how little the person behind the register gives a damn about you.

Ed keep’s on big pimpin’…

The last thing I want to mention is that I’ve added a new link to the Links section located within the "Contact & Info" page. It’s for a site called www.onlinecomics.net that provides a free listing service for web comics of all styles and genres. The reason I added this link is because I’ve now submitted Geek Tragedy to be listed, and in order to be approved, which I hope will happen in the next couple of days, one of the things that they ask is that you link back to them somewhere on your site.

I’ve grown much more comfortable with the way the strip is starting to look now and I feel that, while still far from perfect, my style has really begun to solidify over the past little while. So hopefully my being listed will allow a few more people to become aware of the site, and with any luck they’ll like what they see.

Either that or I’ve just sent out an open invitation for a bunch of strangers to drop by and tell me how much I suck. Only time will tell I guess.

Well, I think I’ve done my part to remind y’all just how longwinded I can be with these blog entries when I have the time. I guess my work here is done!

Later,

-Ed

19 / APR / 05 - Comfort Food...

"The Strip" is now up.  "With Apologies" will be up later in the blah, blah, blah...

You guys have got to be sick of reading what is essentially the same post every Tuesday by now.  I'll try to mix it up a bit next week.

More to come later,

-Ed

12:30 CST

Come one, come all!  Wonder at the all the words of wisdom hidden deep, deep, DEEEEEEEP within the bowels of this week's "With Apologies!"

Fair warning though, I had to trudge through some serious writers block this week in order to get this sucker in the can so it may not exactly be Shakespeare.  Chaucer maybe, but not Shakespeare.

Later folks,

-Ed

18 / APR / 05 - I hate having two days in a row go by without posting...

So I guess I fixed that now didn't I!

Well off to bed!

Later,

-Ed

PS:  I know this post was sort of like cheating, but I still felt like I should write something before the new strip goes up tomorrow.

************************************************

16 / APR / 05 - My loss of sleep is your gain...

Well I wasn't planning on posting an entry until much later on tonight, but seeing as I still can't get to sleep after laying on my back for 2 and a half hours, I figured I might as well do something constructive with my time.

So for your viewing pleasure I give you the coloured design for the first Geek Tragedy T-shirt.

Now this may end up looking a bit different when it makes it to the front of the shirts, but I'm hoping that it will still be fairly close.

I mentioned it before, and now you can see what I mean about changing Casey's colour scheme a bit.  Overall though I think it works.

Anyway, I'm going to try and do some more work on the site and on some sketches I've been batting around in my head, and then see if I can't give sleep another shot.

Later,

-Ed

************************************************

14 / APR / 05 - Today's post has been brought to you by the letter "M"...

Hey folks,

This week's "Dear mom," letter is now up.

Not sure if I'll be posting today.  Most of the stuff I'm working on right now is of the behind the scenes variety.  If I do think of anything though I'll be back.

Till then,

-Ed

************************************************

13 / APR / 05 – Yet another step to becoming a real grown-up…

I just got the book of 100 cheques that I ordered in the mail today. They’ve got my name, and address on the them and everything. The sad thing is that when I opened my mailbox and saw that they arrived, I was actually kinda excited.

That…that’s just not right is it?

Maybe it was some latent accounting gene that was passed down from my mother that suddenly came into play? I hope so, because when a guy gets excited about getting cheque books in the mail, it’s time to admit that you really need a bit more oomph in your life.

I was given a complimentary book of ten cheques when I opened an account more than a few years ago, and I just used up the last one of those in November. So the way I figure it, I should be set till well after the second coming now. Or quite possibly the third.

But enough about that, the real reason I’m posting is because I wanted to give y’all and update on the T-shirt sitch. I’ve just sent off the coloured pic for the shirt design and I’m waiting to hear back as to how well it works for them. So with any luck, I’ll be able to stock the cyber shelves of the Store page in the very near future.

I’ll be sure to post the pic once I find out exactly how it’s going to look on the shirt. I can tell you one thing though, from what I’ve seen with what they can do, the shirts should look far better than I’d ever hoped they would.

However I should note that I did change Casey’s colouring from blue/greenish to more blue/gray to try and stay within my colour limits, but I still think it looks pretty damn good. So good in fact that I’m giving serious thought to changing the way Casey looks in the strip…but we’ll see. For now I’ll stick with my original colour scheme.

Anyway, you guys will get to take a peek at it soon enough. For now though, it’s off to bed for me. I just kinda hope that I don’t have flesh eating zombie dreams again. Maybe it’ll help if I make sure I’m full before I go to bed this time, or do you think that will make it worse?

Oh well, I guess I’ll find out soon enough won’t I?

Later,

-Ed

PS: Why do you think people call them "flesh eating zombies" so often anyway? I mean I know why they call them that, ‘cause they eat the flesh of the living. What I’m saying is are there really so many different types of zombies that one needs to clarify their eating habits? Do some zombies prefer yogurt or peanut butter or something? Just seems kind of redundant is all. Anyway, just had to get that out before I went to sleep.

************************************************

12 / APR / 05 - Technically, it's not a strip...

but whatever you'd like to call it, it's up now on "The Strip" page.

"With Apologies" will be up later in the day.

Later,

-Ed

PS:  Oh yeah, there is a smaller version of the this week's (un)strip below the full sized one.  I figured you guys may want a way to view the full pic all at once without scrolling up and down to take it all in.

******

13:30 CST

I've now posted the "With Apologies" section.  Leone hasn't had a chance to look at it yet (yes, I know, what's the point of having an editor if you never end up sending her your stuff ahead of time) so it may be kind typo infested.  Please bear with it for now and I'll have it fixed by tomorrow if that's the case.

I meant to put it up earlier than this but I got wrapped up in trying to finish colouring the T-shirt design and it slipped my mind.

Sorry I don't have much to say today folks, but by tomorrow I should have some more news on the Geek Tragedy Merchandise front, so keep an eye out for that.

Oh and remember, the "Dear mom" section will be updated Thursday.

Take care all,

-Ed

10 / APR / 05 - Some sound advice...

Well I had every intention of doing a decent sized blog entry yesterday, but as you can tell it never actually happened.

You see I had a bit of a get together yesterday and spent most of last night and a good part of the day, which I usually set aside for sleeping, cleaning the house and getting everything set up for people to enter the rather untidy hermit-like bubble I usually exist within. So I didn’t have chance to get to it then. And of course when the party was in full swing I had to play the good host, which I figured didn’t entail buggering off for a couple hours to work on the computer.

Then, when things started to wind down and the last of my friends began to take their leave, since they know me all too well at this point, they were fully aware that the second I shut the door I was going to head off and throw myself back into the GT Universe. Now they all enjoy the site and fully support what I'm doing, but some friends of mine suggested, or perhaps demanded is a better way of putting it, that I take just one day off from working on the site and relax instead. Now I'm not sure if they just thought that I was working too hard lately and that I deserved a break, or if they knew that I was going to have my hands full already with all the post party clean up and figured it might be a better idea to put some time towards that instead.

side note: BTW, whoever had the idea to hide an empty bottle and/or can in every single one of my cupboards, thank you sooooo much. It was like taking part in some sort of drunken version of an Easter egg hunt this morning when I went make breakfast.

Whatever their reasons were, at first I pretty resistant to it, but in the end I figured it wasn't exactly such a bad idea. I knew that I wasn't behind on anything at the moment in regards to the site so I felt it could survive me taking one day off. Plus, truth be told, I was pretty tired and more than a little drunk at that point and I figured I might do a little more damage than good if I did try my hand at some updating.

But today is a new day, and seeing as how I managed to escape the night without the usual hangover I get if I have more than two beers, figured I’d make up for some lost time.

This is only the second party I've ever thrown and so I'm pretty new at it. I have learned a few things however, and if you have a moment, I'd like to share them with you now.

1) Be sure to set the bar low for the first party so people don't expect much from you the next time around. ‘Cause if you, oh I don’t know, had a fruit platter out for people to nibble on at the first party and you neglect to buy one for the second on, you will be given grief about it all…night…long! I swear, you’d think some of these folks were dying of scurvy the way they lamented over this oversight.

2) When you go out to buy snacks for the party, and you think you’ve bought enough, BUY MORE! When I was filling up chip bowls for the second time, people were actually grabbing the chips out of the air as they fell.  It was as if they all felt a chip’s freshness could only last for mere seconds once the protective seal of a bag was broken so there was no time to waste.

3) If you own one of those dry erase boards, you know one of those things that people use to jot down items that they want to remember to add to the next shopping list, hide it, and hide it well before your guests arrive. Otherwise you will be treated to some of the most obscene and perverse stick figure drawing ever known to man. And I can guarantee that at least one of them will be accompanied by a little arrow pointing to it with your name attached to it. You know, just incase the likeness wasn’t strong enough for you to figure it out on your own.

And 4) If you’re leaving a room that has more than 5 people in it, never utter the phrase, "I’m going to get a drink, does anyone want something while I’m up?" Trust me, you’d be better off just heading to the kitchen, unplugging the fridge, strapping it to your back and lugging it back into the room with you.

So there you have it. I’m sure there’s more, but these are the biggest ones that come to mind.

Anyway, that’s it for now folks. I better get back to working on the strip. Though this week it isn’t really a strip, it’s…well you’ll see on Tuesday.

Later,

-Ed

PS: Thanks to everyone for coming last night, I had a great time, and I hope y’all did too. And yes, I promise I will have a fruit platter in every damn room next time I throw one of these things!

08 / APR / 05 - Taking care of business...

Just stopping in at my house for a few minutes and then I'm heading out again.  I'm doing a bunch of running around today from one end of the city to the other, and I have a few calls to make, so I'm not sure if I'll have any updates today.  Well, other than a couple blog entries that is.

With any luck though I should have some news of sorts to report before I go to bed, or later on tonight when I wake up if I'm too tired to be coherent by the time I get home.

Till then, later folks,

-Ed

******

23:00 CST

Made some headway on the Geek Tragedy t-shirts today.  I don't want to say too much right now, because nothing is set in stone yet, but it's looking like I'll get my wish on having a full colour t-shirt design done after all.

Anyway, I should know more by the end of next week I think.

I have a load of stuff to get done around both my house and the site tonight.  However I'll most likely have a much more robust, full bodied blog posting, complete with nice earthy aromas, up sometime today.

Later,

-Ed

07 / APR / 05 - Time flows downward...

I've got some updates in the works for today.  I'm going to be targeting a few of the long neglected areas of the site over the next few hours.  Specifically the "Contact & Info", and "Meet the Geeks" pages.  Plus I should have the write up to March's survey up by this afternoon, which I totally forgot about until someone reminded me of it (thanks Christy!).

Also a new "Dear mom," letter will be written before I head to bed (I promise mom).

After that if I still have time I'll see what else I can get done before my brain begins to shutdown on me.

In other news...

Couple things though before I get started.  When I post a blog entry I always start it off with the date and that goofy looking drawing of myself.  Any other updates I make the same day past that point are posted below this initial entry along with an approximate time of when I post it.  So if you happen to visit the site more than once during the day you may want to scroll down a bit to see if I've added anything new for that day.

I know most of you have probably noticed this already, but I had someone bring up that they didn't realize I did the blog this way, so I thought it couldn't hurt to let y'all know.

The second thing...I already forgot.

Good lord I need to start writing this shit down on a post-it or something before I try to do my blogs.  Anyway, I'm sure if it was something important it'll come back to me later and I'll blog it then.

Okay, later all,

-Ed

******

13:30 CST

A triple play baby!

The March '05 survey answers and write up - DONE!

The "Dear mom," letter - Fork Stickably DONE!

Update to the "Contact & Info" links section - you guessed it, DONE(ish)!

I want to add more links in the near future, but for now I'm pretty satisfied.

I haven't had a chance to touch the "Meet the Geeks" page yet, but even so, I think my efforts here have earned me some ice cream.  Don't you?

I'm glad you agree.

Later,

-Ed

06 / APR / 05 - Geek Tragedy, helping the nude since 2005...

Howdy folks!

Well I've finalized a sketch for the first official Geek Tragedy t-shirt, and here it is...

Now obviously this still needs to be inked, coloured, and have a bit of background flare added, but essentially this is it.

I'll be starting the inks right after I post this, and will work on the colour over the next few days.  I want to take my time with this though, especially the colour, because even though this is just the first t-shirt I plan to do for the site, it will most likely be representing the GT universe on its own for a while at least.  So I want it to look as good as humanly possible.

The real kicker here is that there is also a chance that all the colouring work will be for naught anyway, and I will end up having to turn this image into a silhouette.  It's all going to depend on how the sample shirt looks when I get it, and how well it stands up to the three of four washings I plan to put through.

You see, because a full colour image would cost an insane amount using a traditional silk screening method, I'm going to try a company that uses a slightly different method.  They say it will have the same quality as a silk screen, and will even send out a sample to prove it, but seeing will be believing on that one.

And when it comes to the shirts there are two things I want to avoid.  First off, crappy quality.  I for one know how pissed off I'd be if I spend good money on a t-shirt that was nothing more than an ugly "do-it-yourself" iron on job, or that has an image that will fade away to nothing after only a couple washes, and so I really don't fancy selling something like that to you guys.

The second thing, insane cost.  Silk screening really doesn't cost that much to have done...until you start adding more and more colours.  Then the price per shirt begins to skyrocket.  So if I can't get all the colours I want without having to price the shirts super high just to cover my cost, then I'll settle for one colour instead.  White image on a black T-shirt or vise-versa.

Oh, and you may have noticed that I finally put up a new survey.  This will hopefully help me get a handle on what sort of shirt I should think about doing in the future.  I may add another survey in the next couple days too in order to get some more input from y'all.

Of course you guys can always feel free to e-mail me at ed@geektragedy.ca directly with any suggestions you may have about the shirts, other possible merch, or pretty much anything.

Well, that's all for now.

Later,

-Ed (aka: the shirt pimp)

05 / APR / 05 - Casey's Quest

"The Strip" is up on time.  "With Apologies" is up on time.  Now I have to get my ass in gear if I'm going to get "to work" on time.

More to say later folks,

-Ed

******

10:00 CST

Wow, am I ever zonked...again.

You know before I started doing this site I was never this tired, this often.  Well, except for when I had mono.  I was pretty tuckered out for those few weeks, but other than that short period of my life I was fairly well rested most of the time.

Of course that might have something to do with the fact that I used to actually sleep.

*sigh* Ahh...sleep. Those were the days...

Anyway, I've been trying to decide if I should go to bed now and then chip away at the site before I go to work, or if I should push on and keep working while I'm half asleep like I usually do.

The sensible thing would be to go to sleep...

You know what, I've always wanted to see what it was like to do the sensible thing at least once, so what the hell, I'm heading to bed.  Who knows, maybe this will start a trend with myself, and I'll begin to make all of my decisions by using logic instead of the odd mix of gut instinct and sheer stupidity / luck that I usually rely on.

Yeah, I'm not holding my breath either.

Sleepy time folks!  Later,

22:00 CST

Well, there's at least one advantage to going to bed early enough to wake up a few hours before I have to go to work.  It meant that I was able to catch the first episode of the new Dr. Who series!

I was huge fan of the original series when I was younger, so when I found out that they were going to be bringing it back I was thrilled, and more than a little worried.  I'm sure anyone who remembers the Americanized attempt to re-launch the series can relate to why I had mixed feeling about the whole thing.

I'm happy to say though that the new version is actually a great throwback to the original instead of a bastardization of it like I feared it might be.  Christopher Eccleston's (I loved him in "Shallow Grave" though most people may recognize him from his roll in "28 Days Later") take on the Doctor brings a lot of life to such a classic character.  Plus they've managed to give the Doctor a good sidekick right out of the gate in the form of Rose, played by Billie Piper.

Truth be told though, no sidekick will ever be as good in my mind as Sophie Aldred's character Ace (who I had an insane crush on during the shows last, but thankfully no longer final, season).

If you were a fan of Dr. Who back in the day I'd strongly suggest that you check it out.

And if not, well, you may want to take peek at it anyway.  Who knows, it may turn out to be your cup of tea after all.

Ugh...now I've gone and covered myself with the smelly ichor of TV critic haven't I?  *shiver*  Hopefully I won't do that too often.

Site stuff...

One of the big problem's I've been running into with the site is that I keep trying to tackle a whole host of different projects, changes, updates, and such all at the same time.  And while I do end up getting a fair amount accomplished, it seems to take a lot longer than I had hoped.

So I've decided to try to set up some sort of schedule for myself and target specific Geek Tragedy type projects and task on set days of the week.  I won't bore you with the details, but there are a couple things I thought you should know.

First off, the main strip will still be updated every Tuesday, and it will continue to be accompanied by the "With Apologies" section at that time.  Even though other parts of the site have left me kinda scattered at times, the strip, which lets face it, is the main focus of the site, has been going relatively smoothly since the launch.  In fact, no one is more shocked than me that I've never once been late with a strip.

Secondly, I'm moving the "Dear Mom," section updates to Thursdays.  This will help split up my writing a bit I think.  Plus, it'll give my mother a couple days to react to the new strip before I write it, and to be honest I usually end up getting a lot more ideas for each week's letter after she's seen it.

As well, if all goes to plan (and that's bound to happen in my life one of these days I think, so keep your fingers crossed) this should allow me to finally be able to produce a couple of black and white strips each week in addition to the colour one.  Right now I'm hoping to phase one B&W strip in on the April 22nd, and continue to do so each Friday.  Then, if that goes well, I'll be adding two B&W strips per week.  One on Thursday, and one on Saturday.  This is all semi-tentative though at this point, so I'll keep you posted.

Lastly, I really need one day of the week to just deal with the business end (or as I like to call it, the mind-numbingly boring end) of the site.  I'm hoping this'll help me get the freakin' T-shirt's produced, all you people out there currently suffering through a bout of nudity are very happy to hear that I imagine, and in turn will give some sense of purpose to the currently barren "Store" page.

Well, that's it for now folks.  Sorry I didn't have any wacky stories about personal annoyances, humiliation, or clothing malfunctions to relate to you this time around.  Remember though, tomorrow is another day, so maybe you'll all luck out and I'll have thrown myself into another embarrassing situation by then.

Later,

-Ed

03 / APR / 05 - If you could see me now...(this is the only blog entry I think I'm going to make today, but I suspect that it's going to turn out to be a long one so that should make up for this fact. hell, even the title of this post is crazy wordy!)

It's laundry day for me today.

Now if you're anything like me then you're one of those people that will wear almost every single damn piece of clean clothing you own that isn't totally embarrassing to go out in public in, and then a few things that walk the line, before you actually take the time to do the wash. So you can just imagine what I, someone who is about as far away from being a fashion guru at the best of times, am wearing right now.

Seriously, I look like a little kid who has decided to try and dress himself without mommy's help for the first time.

Now the reason I put off washing my clothes as long as I do isn't because I'm lazy, or that I hate doing this particular chore (unlike doing the dishes which I down right loath!). In truth it's one of the few domestic tasks that I actually don't mind.

No, the reason I wash clothes so infrequently is that I have so many shirts and pairs of pants that are only one or two washes away from completely unraveling. So pretty much every load I do at this point come with the expectation that I’m going to open up the washer and find a huge ball of string that was once my favorite shirt. So I figure the longer I can stretch out my wardrobe without washing anything, the longer I'll be able to postpone the inevitable.

Because I know when enough of my clothes start to fall apart the prophecy will be complete, and a dark day will descend upon the land of Ed. In other words it means it'll be time to go clothes shopping. A task, which in my life, makes even washing dishes look fun by comparison. I mean is it just me, or should two pairs of jeans that have a 32 waist both actually have, oh I don't know, A 32 WAIST!

So then how the hell does one pair always seem to end up being looser or tighter than the other? After all, unless I'm mistaken, the "32" on the tag represents inches right? Which, last time I checked, was supposed to be a standardized unit of measurement, much like a centimeter, or a liter. It’s not like it’s a "glut", or a "pinch" or a "butt-load", or any other type of subjective measurement. Whether you're in Winnipeg, or New York, or the moon, or Newfoundland (okay maybe not in Newfoundland…I kid folks) an inch is always going to be one freakin’ inch long!

But not so in the garment industry apparently! Oh no! They make it so a guy who would much rather be ripping his own chest hair out with wads of duct-tape has to spend all day trying on every last shred of clothing, even though all the tags say that they’re all the same size.

And don't get me started on the stupidity of button fly jeans...

I accidentally bought a pair of these devil pants once (and yes, a person can "accidentally" buy a pair of pants, it just takes truck loads of bad luck and stupidity). Now I don’t like having to button up my shirts the one time it’s required when I first get dressed, so the idea of buttoning up my pants like a dozen or so times a day (hey I have a small bladder, leave me alone!) really doesn’t appeal to me.

Plus the first time I wore them out I was drinking, and so by about half-way through the night my manual dexterity was somewhat…let’s say "impaired." Though truth be told "crippled" would be a more accurate description.

So there I am standing at the urinal of a public washroom muttering at my pants as I try my best to "button" up my fly. "Damn it! Come on… Please just… Stupid, useless… Could we maybe just do this so that I can get out of here already!"

Now I’m not a complete idiot, I wouldn’t have said any of this if there was anyone else in the room, but when I’m alone I admit that I talk to myself out loud. It’s what happens when you work nights all alone for two years. So I just kept talking away to my fly.

And that’s when I hear the words "Dude, are you okay?" come from one of the stalls.

"Uh, yeah. Fine. Thanks for asking."

"You know it might help the flow if you’d turn on one of the taps or…"

"Thank you!"

Welcome to my life of public humiliation.

Enough words Ed! Give us eye candy!

Speaking of fashion woes, here's a pic of Frank I did up on the weekend. Being an ex-headbanger, I'll always have a soft spot for the heavy / glam / sleaze metal music of the 80's and 90's.

I borrowed from like five different metal artists to help create this outfit, and I don't think it turned out too bad (though the bass guitar looks kinda lame IMO anyway).

And now for some actual site related news...

The results for last months survey will be posted soon, and I'll be putting up a new one in the next couple of days. I can tell you one thing about the results of the last survey right now though; they were pretty damn lopsided! But I'll get into that more when I do the write up for it.

In other news, the Geek Tragedy banner is now showing at another site!

I'm not sure how many of you know of / play / have played Final Fantasy XI (aka Final Fantasy Online), but a fellow by the name of Ryan has a website called the "PirateSyndicate" which allows people who play the game to post pics, contact one another, and basically does it's part to try and bring people from all over together and make the world a better place because of it. Think of him as a sort of a Mother Teresa of the online gaming community.

I personally have never played the online version of Final Fantasy, just the single player games for Nintendo and Playstation, but I hear it’s pretty amazing. I used to do online gaming a lot, so I know first hand that if you’re lucky enough to find a good group of people to game with, it can be an insanely fun and enjoyable (and for me, almost addicting) experience that I think everyone should try. Plus from what I’ve heard, the folks over at "PirateSyndicate" fall well into the "good group of people" category so if you’re thinking of trying it out, FFXI with these ladies and gentlemen may be a fun way to start.

Anyway, Ryan has been kind enough to put my banner up on his site (thanks for setting this up Jay!). So allow me to welcome anyone and everyone who is visiting Geek Tragedy for the first time thanks to Ryan and the "PirateSyndicate" crew.

Well I think that's about it for now folks. I'm off to finish working on this week's strip.

Later all,

-Ed

02 / APR / 05 - Well it took like three weeks...

But I finally got around to making a Geek Tragedy ad banner.  Here's a shrunk'd version (the full sized banner can be seen in the "Archives" ).

With any luck this will be used in the near future to promote Geek Tragedy on other sites that are kindly enough to show it.

Back to work now.

01 / APR / 05 - We're back!

I hope y'all enjoyed The Adventures of Sunshine and Lollypop!  For those of you who didn't get a chance to see what I'm talking about, don't worry, they'll be back soon.

Well actually they won't, but I will put some of the S & L stuff up in the "Archives" for you guys to check out.

Anyway, contrary to what I said in an earlier post, I have no real plans to change Geek Tragedy in order to make it more "family friendly" anytime soon.  I'm sure everyone pretty much figured this out already , but I thought it would be best to state the obvious just in case.

I'll be back to post more later in the night / early morning after I've woken up a bit.

Later,

-Ed
