30 / JUN / 05 - 0940 CST : Choose your own adventure with Frank...

Okay, the version of today's strip with alternate text can be seen HERE.  Feel free to let me know what you think.

I'm going to write more on why I've been flip-flopping between which one I like better in the next day or so, but for now I need to do some running around and get some sleep.

Later folks,

-Ed

0145 : On second thought...

Once I get home I'm going to put up an alternate version of today's strip.  Visually it'll be exactly the same, however the text in the last two panels will be different.

In truth, the strip you see up right now is actually the alternate.  I personally think the original version I had in mind was funnier, and my editor Leone agrees, but I had my reasons for changing it.  I'll go more into why later though.

Anyway, you may want to check back in the afternoon and see for yourselves which of the two incarnations you like best.

Till then,

-Ed

0001 CST : "The List - Pt. II"

The new strip has arrived.

When I went to update the strip I noticed that Tuesday's strip wasn't showing for some reason.  Now I know it was working this morning, but other than that I have no idea how long it had been down for.

Sorry about that folks.

Later,

-Ed

28 / JUN / 05 - 0445 CST : "The List"

Tuesday's strip is up.

I have been less than successful in regards to finding the time to sit down and write up a proper "With Apologies" for the past week or so.  With any luck though, there will be one up in the next couple of days.

Even though the strips have been posted like relative clockwork, everything else has been kinda up in the air lately.  It's my hope that once the new site design is done that things will start running smoothly again.

In the mean time, if you find blog entries and other non-strip type updates are few and far between for the next few weeks, please bear with me.  Thanks!

Later folks,

-Ed

26 / JUN / 05 - 0530 CST : "Grey's Counsel Pt. III"

We have achieved stripage!

Later folks,

-Ed

25 / JUN / 05 - 0635 CST : And so it ends...

The final installment of the "Dear Mom," letters is now up.

Okay, so this may not actually prove to be the last one I ever write, but it will definitely be the last one in a while I think.

Oh, and about the lack of blog posts lately...well, in an odd twist of fate the main reason I haven't been posting on the site, is because I've been too busy working on the site.

My progress on the new site design has been slow going so far, but at least it's been painful too!  I have spent so much time cursing at my computer over the past couple weeks, that a visible residue of profanity has now solidified like a protective shell over my computer screen.

I'd wipe it away with a damp cloth but I fear that were I to hydrate this now dormant filmy skin of vulgarity, I would unlock a deafening cry of "SSSSHHHHHIIIIIIITTTTTT!"s and "SONOVABITCH!"s that would shatter my office windows and leave my eardrums bleeding.

All in all though, I seem to be making some real headway!

Alrighty, later folks,

-Ed

23 / JUN / 05 - 0100 CST : "Grey's Counsel Pt. II"

The new strip is up.

More later,

-Ed

21 / JUN / 05 - 1340 CST : Because it's the thought that counts...

Just wanted to drop by before I head to bed to wish my best friend Tim a...

Happy Birthday!

There is just something about having older friends that keeps you feeling young.

Granted Tim doesn't really have internet access so he'll most likely never see this but I figured what the hell.

Later all,

-Ed (who also does bar mitzvahs!)

0155 CST : "Grey's Counsel"

The new strip is up.

Now that the strip is updated three times a week, I'm trying to work out what day (or eventually that may turn into days) I'll be posting the "With Apologies" write ups from now on.  I'm thinking Saturdays, but we'll see.  I may end up posting one earlier this week.  Either way I'll be sure to give you folks a heads up when it's done and/or when I've cemented a proper schedule.

One thing I do know is that y'all can expect to see the final instalment of the "Dear mom," letters later this week.  I really did enjoy doing this section, and I am sort of sad to see it go, but for now I think it's time to put the old girl out to pasture.

The "Dear mom," section I mean...not my mother.

Anyway, take care all.  I'll be back to post more later,

-Ed

20 / JUN / 05 - 1215 CST : It's not the size that counts...

Well, tomorrow's the day.  After tomorrow Geek Tragedy will be updated with new strips three times a week.

Sure they're smaller, but remember, it's not the size of the army that counts...it's the fury with which it strikes! (I just know my editor Leone is going to make some sort of sarcastic comment about that)

Sorry I haven't posted much in the past couple of days, but when I haven't been working on the strips, other art projects, or putting in time at my paying job, I've been trying to make some headway with the site redesign.

Oh yeah, and sleep.  I've been trying to do that too.  In fact, now that I mention it...

Later all,

-Ed

17 / JUN / 05 - 1215 CST : Without them, who would be left to stand up to the evil Foo?

Hey folks.

Nothing much to report in regards to the site at the moment.

I'm pretty excited about the new three strip per week format that I'll be starting next week.  There is a slim chance however that Geek Tragedy may encounter a disruption in service in the next day or so, but I'm fairly confident that this will end up being a false alarm.  Basically I'm having the same "Notification of Suspension" problems that I had three months ago.

Those of you who have been coming to the site from the beginning know what I'm talking about, but if you're new, or if you have as bad a memory as I do, you may want to check out the 16 / MAR / 05 blog post to see what I'm talking about.

In other news though, after a pretty crappy week things seem to be taking a bit of a turn for the better today.  For one thing, I was able to pick up the new Foo Fighters double CD and it is every bit as amazing as I had hoped it would be.

Honestly, if I could be anyone in the world I'd want to be Dave Grohl...or maybe Tom Jones.  It's a toss up really.

Seriously, if I had Tom Jones' voice I would never speak.  I would instead sing every damn word I ever wished to communicate to other people.

Hmm...maybe I'll give up the site and take up the drums again.  After all I played them for all of five minutes back in University, so how tough could it be to pick it back up again?

Nah, I'll stick with the doodles for now.  Besides, it's a well known fact that cartoonists, especially web-cartoonist, have way more groupies than musicians anyway.

Alrighty guys, talk to y'all later,

-Ed

15 / JUN / 05 - 1100 CST: And I did it without using the word "effect" even once...

This week's "With Apologies" is now up.

Oh, and in case you think I've forgotten about showing you guys the Elvis pic that I've been working on at this point, I haven't.  I just want to clear it with the person I've been tapped to do it for first before I go ahead and put it on the site for all to see.  Not sure if it would be a problem or not, but I'd rather err on the side of caution when it comes to this sort of thing.

Later,

-Ed

14 / JUN / 05 - 1410 CST : To show that I haven't been slacking...

Well despite being tired, I couldn't sleep.  And despite being awake, I couldn't get into the mood for writing.

So instead I started messing around with photo-paint and whipped up a Geek Tragedy wallpaper (you can find it in the "Archives" )  for you guys using this week's splash page.  It's my first attempt at doing wallpaper, so if I screwed anything up I'm sorry.

Oh yeah, and I currently only have an image for monitors set at 1024X768 screen resolution.  I'll be sure to redo it at other resolutions in the near future though.

Okay, I'm going to see if I can actually manage to get some sleep now.

Later,

-Ed

0845 CST : Making a splash...

Forgot to post about this earlier, but the Geek Tragedy splash page is up (and has been since midnight).

Working on this week's "With Apologies" and I'll try to get it up before I go to bed, or if I run out of steam then it'll be up in the wee hours of the night.

That's all for now.  Later,

-Ed

13 / JUN / 05 - 1520 CST : I'll let you be the judge...

Well the splash page for this week is done.  I'll be posting it a midnight just like I do with the strip pages.

I'm giving serious thought to having it turned into a poster, but I'll see what y'all think of it first.

Just a reminder, after this week I'm going to be posting three smaller strips per week.  I'm hoping that's going to be the norm from now on, but we'll see how it goes.  Feel free to drop me a note in the weeks ahead letting me if you prefer the one full page per week, or the trio of smaller strips.

Alrighty, off to bed for me.

Later,

-Ed

11 / JUN / 05 Ė 1245 CST : The best laid plansÖmost likely werenít made by meÖ

Hey folks.

As promised, here is a brief rundown of some of the changes that I know for sure will be happening around Geek Tragedy.

The Strip: As I mentioned before, Iíll be changing the format of the strip from one page updated on Tuesdays, to three smaller strips posted throughout the week. At this point it looks like the strips will be posted on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. These dates may seem kinda like odd times for updates, but for now they appear to be the best way for me to work around my schedule.

This will come into affect (or in this case is it effect Leone?) on June 21st.

GT Forum: You might have figured this one out already from the new survey I put up, but incase youíve missed it Iíll tell you now. I plan to add a forum to Geek Tragedy in the near future.

I should tell you that Iíve got mixed feelings about this one. I truly do like the idea behind forums. Iíve always believed that they are a great place for people to share their thoughts and feelings with others, and in this case will allow me to have more direct channel of feedback from you guys regarding what youíve seen on the site.

On the other hand however, I have a very difficult time stomaching the type of bullshit that often goes on within various forums. I seems that thereís just something about mixing anonymity with open communication that manages to bring out the inner dickhead in some people, and itís that aspect of the forum that I am most definitely not looking forward to.

Still, I think (or perhaps I should say hope) the positive will far out weight the moronic, and overall this will turn out to be an inspired idea. For the time being though I have no definite date for this addition to the site, as it will mostly depend onÖ

The Site Itself: I was very fortunate to have found a service that allows even someone as completely lacking in webmastering know-how as myself to be able to build a site with relative ease. In fact, I wouldnít hesitate for a moment to recommend Webnames.caís Webbuilder service to anyone who is looking to take their first steps into building a web presence.

That being said, Iíve come to the realization that in order to implement the changes Iíd like to make to the site Iím going to need to build it up again from scratch, and do so on my own. But, in order to do thatÖ*sigh*ÖIím going to be giving myself a crash course in using web creation software.

Truth be told, Iím looking forward to this about as much as the average Joe looks forward to rectal surgery, but much like rectal surgery, even though itís going to be a pain in the ass, itís still got to be done (there is just no forgiving that ham fisted play on words is there?).

When it will be done however, well that the question isnít it? Iíd like to have it finished by the end of July (I have just over a week off that month so I plan to put that free time to good use), but given my total ineptitude in this area, I flat out refuse to make any promises at this point in time.

Unfortunately this particular undertaking is kinda the lynchpin for more than a few of the changes Iíd like to make (the forum being the only one of these changes that I feel comfortable mentioning at this time), so Iím praying that I will pick this stuff up quick. I can tell you that by the time Iím done the site should look quite different, and that aside from the strip itself, this project is my top priority at the moment.

Dear Mom,: This section, much like the "News" section did just before the site officially launched, will be getting the axe.

This should come as no great shock to anyone who has been visiting the site for a while, as Iím sure youíve noticed how I havenít bothered to write a new letter in I donít know how many weekís now. Still, I thought it best to make it official. My plan at this time is to write one final "Dear Mom," and then end it. I will keep the page up until the new site design is in place, but after that it will be tucked away somewhere in the "Archives."

Oh, and in case anyone was wondering, yes, my mother already knew this was coming. I told her a few weeks ago, and sheís fine with it. Or rather, I think she is. At the very least I know my sister will be happy about it, as Iím sure the cessation of my weekly insinuations that she is some kind of sadistic, drug-addled, demoness (of which she is none btw, quite the opposite in fact) wonít be bringing a tear to her eye anytime soon.

Look for the last letter to show up sometime during the same week that the strip change takes place.

With Apologies: This section will remain. For the time being though, I wonít be writing one after each strip, but will instead post it once a week as I currently do now. Any other news that I feel needs to be covered, will be done in the Blog Tragedy section, so no big change there.

Also, seeing as how I never really stick to making only strip related comments within it, I will be broadening the focus of this write up even further to act as more of a "week in review" style article. I havenít figured what day Iíll be posting it yet, but I should have that worked out by June 21st.

Well folks, thatís how things stand for now. Iíll be telling you about more changes as time goes on, but most likely not for another few weeks, or at least until I make some progress with the web creation software. Whichever comes first.

In the mean time, if anyone has any suggestions or tips that may make this process smoother for me, please, please, PLEASE feel free to let me know! Any help at all at this point would be greatly appreciated.

Till then, later all,

-Ed (GTís Web-Padawan)

09 / JUN / 05 - 0915 CST : Plugging away...

Hey folks.

Not much in the way of Geek Tragedy news right now.  Been finishing up a commission piece today, which I'll hopefully be able to give you a glimpse of over the weekend or early next week.

This weekend I'll be dropping by to let you guys know about some of the changes to the site that y'all can expect to see over the next couple of months.  For now though I'm still trying to make sure that I don't get ahead of myself and promise anything that I can't deliver on.

I have some running around to do in the time being, so if I don't get to post again today than I'll catch you folks tomorrow.

Later,

-Ed

08 / JUN / 05 - 0915 CST : My writing is beginning to have an effect affect ... it's beginning to drive her crazy...

My editor, the wonderful and hopefully forgiving Leone, sent me an e-mail with a list of corrections for this week's "With Apologies" last night, and in it she touched upon something that she's been trying to drive into my head for weeks now, which I in turn keep forgetting to take into account when I do my writing.

The following is an excerpt from said e-mail which I think quite clearly illustrates the nature of what she's been attempting to hammer into my brain...

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST
"how the new format will effect the strip, "<------That's it.  You are banned from ever using that word again.  IT'S AFFECT.  If I EVER see that word again I will hunt you down and slap you upside the head.  I will burn your clothes, break your dishwasher or better yet..."

I'll end it there I think, because beyond that point is when she starts to get a little angry with me, and a lot more graphic.

Alrighty, that's all for now folks.  I'm off to have another deadbolt or two installed in my front and back doors...and maybe buy a guard dog as well.

Later,

-Ed

07 / JUN / 05 - 1645 CST : Getting back on track...

This week's "With Apologies" is now up in it's pre-proofread form.

Yes, I know, it's down right shocking that I actually got some writing done on time!

Anyway, I'm off to bed.

Later all,

-Ed

06 / JUN / 05 - 1515 CST : "Ashes, Ashes"

This week's strip is now up.

I figured I'd post it a little early this week, seeing as how you guys had to wait a while for last week's to be posted because of my computer upgrades.

Enjoy!

Later,

-Ed

0900 CST : The lost weekendÖ

Hey guys.

For those of you who were swinging by the site on the weekend you might have noticed a few things. Stuff like, Geek Tragedy being down for a while on Sunday, no blog entries the whole weekend, and no second part to last week's "With Apologies" section.

Well, while I shoulder no responsibility whatsoever for the site outage, and the lack of blog entries is simply a by-product of my having very little in the way of life on which to report (plus Iíve been having some issues with getting my posts to work right, but Iíll bore you with the details of that another day), I do feel I should apologies for not getting the second part of the "WA" section done.

Sorry about that.

I had a lot on my plate this weekend, and unfortunately it was the written word that ended up paying the price for it. You'd think by now I would've learned not to guesstimate on when one of my write ups will be posted until the vast majority of it has already been written. I'll try to stick to that rule of thumb in the future though.

Before I go, I wanted to give y'all one quick update on the impending site changes that will begin taking place in a couple of weeks. Near as I can tell at this point, I will be phasing the changes in bit by bit starting on June 21st, instead of throwing them out there all at once.

Right now my goal is to have all of them up and running by the end of July, however that is an insanely tentative date at this point, and it's going to depend on a lot of different factors before I'll know for sure if I even come close to it. Not the least of which being how steep I find the learning curve on the new software I'm currently battling with to be.

Well that's it for now folks. I'll be sure to get into more specifics about the changes next week after the GT splash page is up.

Later,

-Ed

03 / JUN / 05 - 1045 CST : One down, one to go...

The first part of this week's "With Apologies" is now up.  It hasn't been seen by the lovely and talented Geek Tragedy editor Leone yet though.  I think at this point y'all know what that means...

Anyway, keep a look out for the second part to be up on the weekend at some point.

Okay, back to work I guess.

Later,

-Ed

02 / JUN / 05 - 1030 CST : She doesn't just check for spelling mistakes...

My editor Leone let me know that I forgot to give Noname nipples in this weeks strip.  Yes, she is very thorough isn't she?

Well, he's got some now, so that should make both her, and Noname very happy.

Still working on the "With Apologies" section.  So far it looks like I'm going to be breaking it up into two parts, but we'll see if I can condense it down a bit into just one large write up.  Keep an eye out for it later today, or early evening.

For now, I'm going to be catching up on the sleep I fell short of getting yesterday.

Later all,

-Ed

01 / JUN / 05 - 1535 : Red is obviously the colour of evil...

Okay it's fixed now.  Don't know why that shade of red lost so much definition after it was resized, but at least I'll know never to use it again for text.

Too bad though, it would've looked cooler in red I think.

Now I'm off to bed!

-Ed

******

1520 CST : Blame it on the dark side...

Okay, I just checked out the strip now that it has been posted and Vader's text is pretty much unreadable, isn't it?

So it looks like I'm going to lose a bit more sleep and fix that up for you guys before I go to bed.

Okay, back to Photo shop I go...

-Ed

******

1510 CST : "Bodily Harm"

The new strip is now up!

I hope it was worth the wait folks.

I'd love to stick around and type more, but to paraphrase Vader...The need for sleep is strong with this one.

Later,

-Ed

******

1315 CST : Getting the word(s) out...

Just a little update folks.

The strip is pretty much done at this point.  Just need to add the word bubbles, and the Geek Tragedy headers 'n stuff and then it'll be good to go.

In the mean time, here's a little preview...

The next post I make will be to let you know the strip is up.  I'm hoping it won't be much longer than an hour from now, because I hate to keep y'all waiting.

Plus, it'd be nice if I could go to bed sometime today!

Later,

-Ed

******

0730 CST : It looks like my sister won't be a getting a free house after all...

Hey folks.

Taking a quick break from work right now to let y'all know that in about half an hour I will be heading home and finishing up this week's strip.

That's right, my upgrades were pretty much completed last night shortly before I had to head into work (I still have some more things I'd like to do, but for now I'm just happy with everything being up and running again), and while things could've gone a lot smoother, they still went oodles better than I figured they would.

Anyway, keep an eye out for the strip today.  I'm thinking it will hit just around 1pm, but will post whenever it goes up regardless.

"With Apologies" should follow some time tomorrow.  It'll be a long one this time I think, as I'll be covering ground from the small strip on Sunday, the full page one today, and a few other topics as well.

Okay, later folks,

-Ed
