31 / MAY / 05 -  0900 CST : As long as it isn't #3 I'll be happy...

Alrighty!

I'm about half an hour away from starting to upgrade my computer, and the way I see it one of three things can happen past this point.

1) Things go better than I had ever hoped, and my computer is up and running again in a vastly improved capacity within the hour.  In which case there is a good chance the strip will be up before I go to bed.

2) The upgrades go the way they always seem to go for me, and I encounter a whole herd of problems that take forever to fix.  In which case the strip will be most likely not be up today, but rather sometime tomorrow (and I'll make sure it won't be any later than that, even if it means I have to take everything I just added back out again in order to get my computer running once more).

3) All hell breaks loose, and I somehow end up electrocuting myself, thus causing my untimely death.  In which case this will undoubtedly be the last update to the site I ever make again.

Let's hope everything falls into place somewhere between #1 and #2, as I would've fancied leaving behind a much more profound set of last words, instead of simply saying...

Later folks,

-Ed

PS: However, if this does prove to be my last post, I hereby leave my house to my sister, Jodi.  I know this sounds very generous of me, but trust me, if y'all saw the mess I'd be leaving behind for her to clean, you'd know this was actually my one final torment that I'd be inflicting on her.

PPS: Mom, I am of course only kidding, and I swear I won't electrocute myself (at least not to death).  I know you'd probably figured this out already, but I thought I'd mention it just in case.  'Cause this way, if I'm unable to post for a few hours, I don't have to worry about paramedics kicking down my door making sure I'm still alive.

30 / MAY / 05 - 1110 CST : Just a reminder...

Hi folks.

Just wanted to swing by and remind everyone that, as I mentioned on Sunday, the strip will be late tomorrow.

I will try my best to get it up in as timely a fashion as possible though.  Once again, my apologies in advance for it being late.

Later,

-Ed

29 / MAY / 05 - 1520 CST : Geek Tragedy in the weeks ahead…

Hey folks!

I got my first ever bit of spam through my Geek Tragedy e-mail account today. Normally I place spam way up there between "theater talkers" and "nazis" on my list of purely evil things which I utterly despise, but I guess in some weird way this means I must be doing something right in regards to getting the site noticed. Then again, how hard is it really to get noticed by spammers?

Regardless though, my being offered the opportunity to alter the size and shape of various parts of my body at rock bottom prices is not the reason why I’m posting. My main purpose for being here is to give you guys a rundown of what to expect from Geek Tragedy in the next few weeks.

There can be only one…

First off, after switching to a three smaller strips format last week, GT will go back to the single full paged strip format this week. The strip should be up for viewing on Tuesday as usual, but unfortunately not right at the stroke of midnight like it normally is.

I’ve got a couple of appointments this week, plus I am finally breaking down and upgrading my computer a bit. Now even though the appointments will eat into my "strip" time a bit, it’s the computer upgrade that I’m really worried about in regards to screwing up the GT schedule. Mainly because when it comes to upgrading my computer I always hope everything will go as planned, but at the same time have also learned to expect all hell to break loose instead.

Still, once everything does get sorted out with the computer (in what I pray will be a somewhat timely fashion) it should go a long way towards helping me cut down on the time, and grief it takes to produce the strips in the future.

Anyway, I just wanted to let y’all know about the strip’s impending tardiness ahead of time so that you don’t think I’ve just been slacking too much to get the strip out on time. Beside, with the exception of a few fellow night owls, and my handful of viewers on the other side of the globe, most people don’t start checking out the new strips till around noonish or later. So I’m pretty sure any delay will go largely unnoticed for the most part (but my apologies in advance to those of you that are affected).

A quick (boring) glimpse into the future…

After this week’s strip, there will be another full page strip the following week, and that strip will in turn mark the end of yet another chapter in the Geek Tragedy universe.

And just like the last time I felt the closing of a chapter in the story had come to pass, I will follow it up the week after with a Geek Tragedy splash page. If you’re not sure what I mean by this, check out the "Geektastic Four" page I did on 12 / APR / 05 in the "Archives" section, and you’ll know what I mean.

Finally, he gets to his damn point…

Okay, now that you’ve suffered through that guided tour down Boring Town’s historical "Who Gives a Shit" lane, allow me to get to our feature attraction.

After the splash page hits the site on June 14th, I will be making some changes to Geek Tragedy. I’d like to go so far as to say that Geek Tragedy as you know it today, will from that moment on cease to exist, and from it’s ashes will rise the fiery life-giving phoenix that is GT v2.0.

Yes, I’d like to say that, but I won’t. ‘Cause I know damn well that statement would prove to be far too melodramatic, and in turn lead only to a tremendous let down in the end.

I will however say that the changes I’ll be making will affect both the strip, and the site itself in a rather significant manner. New content will be added, currently existing content will be altered in varying degrees, and some content will be dropped from the site altogether.

There are a whole host of reasons as to why I’m doing this, but the only one worth mentioning at this point is that I’m trying my best to improve the site, and in return make it a far more entertaining place for you guys to visit. After doing the cyber doodling thing (man, that just sounds all kinds of wrong doesn’t it?) for a few months now, I’ve become aware of a few things that just aren’t working well, or could at the very least be working a bit better, and I’d like to act on them ASAP instead of letting them fester.

Anyway, I’ll be sure to tell you all more about what’s going on in the weeks ahead. Until then, just to recap: Strip late, strip on time, splash, and change. I just know that there is a joke in there somewhere, but I’m far too tired to suss out what it might be at this point. Feel free to write your own though.

Oh, and before I go, I will be writing a final KeyCon "With Apologies" to go with the newest strip in the next day or so, so keep a lookout for that.

Okay folks, later,

-Ed

PS: Remember: (Long post + lack of sleep – Leone’s proofreading) x Ed’s illiteracy = potential typos galore! Sorry folks.

0715 CST : "True(ish) KeyCon Tales - Part III"

Two things to say:

One, I hate my computer.

And two, the final KeyCon strip is now up.  I'd love to talk more, but I've gotta jet.  I'll post more later though.

-Ed

26 / MAY / 05 - 1650 CST : I just couldn't leave it alone...

Okay, if you want to see a lot of really good KeyCon pics, then you may want to check out another site.

However, if you want to see the few pics of mine that actually turned out, then feel free to head on over to my KeyCon Pics page.  That's right, I stayed up just a bit longer to get them up and working again.

I'll be sure to add descriptions to each of the pics in the next 24 hours, so if you'd like to come back and check them out then, feel free.

Okay, now I'm heading to bed!

-Ed

******

1615 CST : It shouldn't be this difficult...

And yet somehow, it always is!

Okay, for some reason I can't post the KeyCon pics to a separate gallery without them screwing up the strip Archives.

So for those of you who were on the site a few minutes ago checking out the pics I posted and are now wondering what happened to them, I took them down again till I can figure out what the hell is going on.  Sorry to tease you like that.

I'm going to try again later, but for now...must...have...sleep!

-Ed

1215 CST : "True(ish) KeyCon Tales - Part II"

Hey folks!

The second "KeyCon strip" is now up for viewing.

I'll be posting another "With Apologies" write up by tomorrow morning to give y'all the thoughts behind the creation of this new one.  Plus I'll have a new "Dear Mom," letter going up around the same time.

Yes, I know there wasn't one last week, and I'm late with this one, and this all makes me a bad son.  Trust me though, my mother is a very understanding woman, and over the years I think she's learned to expect very little from her son, so it's all good!

The next post I make will most likely be in a couple hours to let all of you know that some of the KeyCon pics are (finally) up.  Plus I think I'll have a sketch to show you guys as well, but we'll see.

Alrighty, I gotta run!  Later,

-Ed

25 / MAY / 05 - 1140 CST : It's a good thing I can draw a little bit...

Because I sure as hell ain't getting work as a photographer anytime soon.

Well I've got the KeyCon pics back, and for the most part they turned out pretty grim.  I'm going to still post the ones that came out clear enough to make out shapes and forms that resemble human bodies, but I think I'll be linking to some better pics done by others who attended the con.

For now though, here's a trio of sketches I did in an effort to practice up on drawing some female characters.  You'll be seeing one of these in the next strip for sure.

Speaking of the next strip, it'll be up tomorrow.  I'll be sure to post when it arrives, so keep a look out.

Alrighty, back to sketching!

Later,

-Ed

24 / MAY / 05 - 1215 CST : The pics are coming!

The "With Apologies" for today's strip is now up and ready for reading.

Now I've got to run and pick up the KeyCon pics and see how they turned out.  I don't know if I'll get a chance to post them today though, because I still have some more writing that I'd really like to get finished up.

Oh yeah, and I guess doing that whole sleep thing might be something I should consider finding time for today as well, huh?

Later,

-Ed

******

0850 CST : After taking a step back...

I noticed that there were a couple mistakes I had made on the strip when I originally posted it.  They've now been fixed and the strip is now the way it should've been originally.

More posts to come in a few hours unless I can't manage to stay awake that long, in which case more will come later in the evening.

Later,

-Ed

******

0000 CST : "True(ish) KeyCon Tales - Part I"

The subtitle for this strip should be, "AKA - Ed really needs to brush up on his women drawing skills", but I'll leave that alone for now until I've posted the "With Apologies" write up.

The first strip of this week's three part KeyCon series is now up and ready for viewing.

Part II and III will most likely be posted on Thursday, and Saturday respectively.  Unless I have the time to do the one panel Casey strip that I've been thinking of, in which case they'll be posted a little closer together with Casey's strip going up on Saturday.

Later,

-Ed

23 / MAY / 05 - 0940 CST : It’s amazing what only 12 hours of sleep can do for a guy… (KeyCon Day II cont) (this is a long one people, so until I take another pass at it, settle in for a whole host of my trademark nonsensical typos)

Howdy folks.

Sorry it took so long to post this update for the second day of the con but after two days with about 3 hours of sleep, oddly enough I needed to crash for a while. Which, incidentally, is why I won’t really have much to report about the third day of the con as I pretty much slept through it.

Shooting your friends for fun and glory…

First off, as I mentioned earlier, my buddy Travis had his Halo 2 tourney on Saturday. Unfortunately the turnout in the beginning was a little weak as it ended up being scheduled opposite of one of KeyCon’s most popular events, the masquerade. However once that was over a fair number of people who participated in that event headed on over to the console room and started blasting the hell out of each other with extreme prejudice. So in the end he was able to get enough people together to have four qualifying rounds, and the finals.

I myself participated in the competitive carnage. However I’d only played the game a couple times before in my life, so my roll in the event was pretty much to provide the other competitors with a constantly respawning victim that they could in turn corpsify in any number of horrific and embarrassing ways, over and over and "oh for the love of God could you people just let me take three freakin’ steps before you blow the living shit out me" over again, in an effort to help pad their own kill totals. Still, I guess it’s always good to have a purpose in life, even if in this instance it was essentially being everyone’s Halo bitch.

As well, between the tournament rounds there was plenty of time to get some casual play in, complete with ample amounts of trash talking. And judging from the creative and colourful nature of some of the verbal barbs being thrown around (some of which, usually spoken by someone who was just killed, took the form of requests for other players to commit various acts to themselves that if not outright physically impossible, would certainly produce the need for life long physical therapy in their aftermath) I think the smack talk was more enjoyable to a few of the players than the game itself.

I was able to snap pics of both the event and it’s participants which I’ll be sharing with y’all soon. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get a pic of Robert, the tournament winner, with his trophy (and btw, thanks to our buddy Steve for providing that for the event) as I was too busy taking a bunch of other pics at the time.

Jimmy Olsen would never have this problem…

Speaking of photos, I ended up taking more this one weekend than I think I’ve ever taken before in my entire life, and I am very eager to start sharing them with you guys.

That being said, I wasn’t able to get them developed yesterday like I’d hope, but I’m going to try and get that done later today. The only thing is, this being the Monday of a long weekend here in Canada, I don’t know if any place other than Wal-Mart will be open to develop them for me. And while I could just drop by one of the Wal-Marts in the city to get them done, I won’t.

You see I have a bit of a problem with the policy they have about choosing which photos they will and will not develop for their customers. Now the reason I feel this way isn’t because I’m in the habit of taking pictures of questionable morality, and seeing as how I have no plans to become an amateur pornographer anytime soon, I don’t really think this will ever be much of an issue for me in the future. Nor is it because I feel a business doesn’t have the right to choose what they do, or don’t do for their customers, at least not as long as their policy is the same for all their customers. Granted I find this policy to be amazingly stupid and, as long as the pics aren’t illegal in nature, I don’t think that they should have any objection to developing them, but I still respect their right to make their own policies, and in turn follow through with them.

No, the reason I have a problem with Wal-Mart’s photo lab is because they won’t actually inform their customers about this policy when they bring their film in, nor do they make any mention of it once the pics have or have not been developed. Hell, I wouldn’t have ever known it even existed if some friends hadn’t told me about it in the first place. And once I did find out I looked back at the negatives of some photos I had developed there, only to find that they did in fact not produce a print of a photo that had someone mooning the camera in it (I didn’t take that one btw mom, it was someone else using the camera, I swear!).

Anyway, I’ll step off of my rant box now and just say that as long as I can find a place to develop the photos today, I’ll have some posted today. Otherwise you’ll get your first look at some of them tomorrow.

Chainmail, it’s not just for ‘80s Metal bands anymore…

I mentioned in a previous post about how there were "a good number" of people walking around KeyCon in various costumes on Friday. Well, I was wrong. ‘Cause compared to the legion of people getting into it on Saturday, their was just a handful doing so the day before.

Jedi, pirates, knights, necromancers, borg…if it’s ever appeared in some incarnation within the fantasy and / or sci-fi genre, then it was roaming the halls of KeyCon on Saturday night.

It totally amazes me just how much time these folks had put into their costumes. In order for you to even come close to grasping what I’m trying to get across here try this. Think of every Halloween party you’ve ever been to. Now, from all the costumes you’ve seen put only the people wearing best costumes into a room, and subtract all the obviously readymade store bought ones. Okay, multiply that by a hundred or so, and you’ll start to come close to the incredible spectacle that was Saturday at KeyCon.

I did my best to take as many pics of these costumes as I could, but even then I had to limit myself because I wanted to save some of my film for other parts of the con. The thing is though, the costumes themselves weren’t what fascinated me. What really sent my mind spinning was talking to the people inside the costume, and hearing what they had to say about process involved in making it.

The time, planning, and care that goes into these wearable works of art is unreal. Honestly, if I devoted half as much energy to this site as some of these people did for their costumes, I’d a household name the world over by now. As it stands, I’m barely a household name in my own mother’s house.

And lets face it folks, it takes a seriously secure sense of self to walk around in public dressed up as an axe wielding warrior, or a dragon toting wizard. I mean, do you know how self conscience I’d be walking around dressed up like Frodo?

Sure, most of the people who they’d run into were going to be con goers, but there was a lot of other people staying at the hotel that weekend as well. Of course from what I saw, even the people who didn’t know what was going more than enjoyed the brief glimpses they had of some of these inventive folk who walking around.

One of the biggest non-con fans of all the costumes was a freshly blushing bride who just happened to be holding her wedding reception at the hotel the same weekend as KeyCon. She got such a kick out of what was going on in fact, that she even ditched her own wedding party for an hour or so to run down and take some pictures with a bunch of the costumed KeyCon goers.

Now that’s my kinda woman! I wonder if she’s seeing anyone?

The Geek Tragedy Crew head to KeyCon this week…

Now I was planning on just continuing on with the GT story line this week as usual, but after Friday I really wanted to do a strip about KeyCon. The only thing is I had so many ideas that I couldn’t decide on just one to use. So this week I’ve decided to do things a bit different.

So, instead of a one page long strip this week I’m going to be doing three, three panel strips showing Frank, Grey, and Noname milling about the con. I have an idea for putting Casey in a one panel strip too, but it’ll depend if I have enough time to throw that out there as well. The first strip will either be up later today, or posted on Tuesday like the regular pages usually are.

Along with each strip I’ll be posting a brief write up in the "With Apologies." I hope you guys don’t mind this brief change in format, but I just had to do it. Besides, the ongoing saga of the crew will continue on next week, so you won’t have to wait too long for things to get back to normal.

Well, I guess that’s it for now. There was much more about the con to mention, but I think I’ve run off at the keyboard more than enough for one day already. I’ll post again just as soon as the next strip is up, or when I’ve got the pics developed for y’all to see. Whichever comes first.

Later,

-Ed

PS: As always with posts of this size, sorry for any typos. I’ll fix them up as soon as my brain stops showing my eyes what they want to see, instead of what they actually are seeing while I proofread, or whenever my editor Leone has a chance to send me an e-mail telling me what I screwed up.

Most likely it will be the latter (you’re the best Leone!).

22 / MAY / 05 - 0800 CST : Wow, should I ever be sleeping... (KeyCon Day II)

Hey folks.

I'm going to be posting my thoughts and observations about the second day of KeyCon later on today when I have more time.

What I can tell you right now though is that I ended up taking a glut of pics last night. So just as soon as I get them developed (yes, that's right, I'm the only person left in the world that doesn't have a digital camera) I'll start posting them so that you can check out the con goings-ons for yourselves. With any luck at least some of them will be up by Monday.

For now though, I've got a bunch of stuff that I need to get done before I can sleep, and attempting a long post at this point without doing just that would only end in gibberish. Unfortunately one of the things I have to do is make sure I'm back at the house to wait for Rotor Rooter to show up between 9 and 11am. I really hope that they show closer to 9 though, because I am so very desperate to lay down and get some damn rest.

Alrighty, gotta run,

-Ed

21 / MAY / 05 - 0800 CST : It really is a stereotype, but it's also true... (KeyCon Day I)

Well I was a little late getting out of the house, but I did end up heading out the door early enough to check out a few of the late night hours of KeyCon. And while I really didn't get to see much, here are a few of my thoughts so far...

First off, the venue was quite nice. A lot better than I was expecting actually. The con pretty much has the run of a few of the middle floors of hotel, so everyone attending the con is essentially free to wander around without having to worry about bothering any of the non-con guests. Something I feel that both parties are equally happy about.

The other thing I like about this venue is that for the most part it wasn't that tough to navigate around. This was a huge thing for me because I once went to a "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Con in New York, and the "resort" (and oh for the love of God do I use that term loosely) was like some sort of neigh unnavigable (not a word, right Leone?) labyrinth. Seriously, I half expected to see a Minotaur wandering the halls every time I made the uncertain trek back to my room that weekend. I could actually go on and on about how crappy this place was (though the con itself was excellent!) but lets stick with KeyCon for now.

One of the places that was still up and running when I got there was the Star Trek theme hospitality suite called "The Captain’s Lounge."  When we (and by we I mean my friends Jay, Steve, Travis and myself) checked it out there was a fairly constant stream of people heading in and out so we sort of sat outside the entrance for the first while.

Now before I go any further, let me first get out of the way the observation I had that was alluded to in the header for this post. I know when it comes to "geek" sub-culture, a group I like to include myself in, one of the stigmas that is often attached to us is that acts of personal hygiene aren’t always too high on our "to-do" lists. Now as someone who tries his best to stay sweet smelling all day long I find this kinda insulting.

However, judging from the…um…aura wafting from every fifth or sixth person who passed by us as we sat outside "The Captain’s Lounge", I very much doubt this stereotype will go away anytime soon. Okay, enough said.

So our buddy Steve decided to head into the lounge and get himself a nice refreshing bevy. When he came out with a drink in hand, here is a paraphrased version of the conversation that followed.

Travis: What’s that?

Steve: They said it was beer. Here taste it.

Travis: (Takes a sip and hands it back) It’s kinda sweet, are you sure it’s beer?

Steve: I don’t know man, they had a whole bunch of crazy names for the drinks they were serving so I just stopped them when they said something that had "beer" in the title.

Travis: It’s not very good whatever it is.

Steve: Maybe not, but it’s got two things going for it.

Travis: Which are?

Steve: It’s alcohol, and it’s free.

Travis: Fair enough.

And here is another snip-it of conversation that happened as we were heading back to the elevators.

Steve: (catches up with us after stopping to look at something in one of the rooms) Why are they showing cartoon porn in that room?

Travis: It’s not cartoon porn, it’s Anime.

Steve: What’s "Anime" mean?

Jay: It’s a Japanese word for cartoon porn.

Also at the con were a good number of people walking around in costume (also known as Cos Players). I know a lot of people like to look down on this type of self expression and say nasty things about it, but I personally give these people serious props for doing it. Seeing as how we live in a world that is so filled with people who just want to conform so they can be just like everyone else, I think it’s healthy to see people getting into the spirit of an event like this and having some fun dressing up. I mean who doesn’t enjoy Halloween right? So what’s the big deal about these people having Halloween more than once a year?

The way I see it, it’s not really any different than "Swing Dancing" in that it’s something totally harmless that a lot of people really enjoy doing. And much like swing dancing, while I do get a kick out of seeing people do it once and a while, I still have no desire to take part in it myself.  But maybe if I had more guts, or if I looked better in chainmail...

Last but not least was the poker tournament that Travis and myself entered into at midnight. Now most of the time I fully enjoy a night of poker, but for some reason I just didn’t feel like playing tonight. Travis on the other hand, was in the mood for poker, and did a great job of coming in one spot short of the money.

I guess that’s it for now folks. Not sure if you guys will get a kick out hearing about the Con this weekend or not, but it’s pretty much going to the hot topic I’ll be posting about for the next couple of days. I’m going to take a camera with me tonight so that maybe I can share a few pics with you over the rest of the weekend.

Later,

-Ed

PS: I’m posting this kinda on the fly as I have to run right now, so I haven’t proof read it yet, but I’ll be sure to do so ASAP once I get back into the house. In the mean time, sorry about any typos.

20 / MAY / 05 - 1030 CST : Let's try this again shall we...

Okay, the webbuilder program didn't feel like letting me update the site on my last attempt a few minutes ago, so let's see if I have more luck this time around.

A Sci-Fi / Fantasy / Gaming convention held here in Winnipeg each year called KeyCon kicks off its first day tonight, and yours truly is going to be heading out to check out the sights. I was actually hoping to have a table at this con in order to help try and promote Geek Tragedy a bit, but it looks like that just wasn’t meant to be. On the bright side though at least this way I’ll actually get to walk around and see everything instead of being stuck at a table all weekend.

Still, who knows, if this turns out to be a good time had by all maybe I’ll try to secure a table for next year.

Oh yeah, and my buddy Travis is hosting a Halo 2 tournament there on Saturday. So if you like the idea of killing a bunch of aliens deader than hell in an effort to protect the human race, and you live in the Winnipeg area, drop on by and "get all up in" (I don’t really know what that means but I’m assured that it’s something all the cool kids are saying these days). Check out the this page of the KeyCon site for details.

In other news, still no word on the GT-shirts yet this week. However, I’m not giving up hope to hear something about them by the end of the day, so keep your fingers crossed!

Anyway, I’ll be sure to drop a post or two here either later tonight or in the wee hours of tomorrow morning to let you know how the first day of the con was. For now though, I guess I should get back to cleaning the house.

You know, you’d be amazed at the kinds of things that can rot and grow mold if you leave them unattended to long enough…

Later,

-Ed

19 / MAY / 05 - 1010 CST : Holy hell am I ever glad that's done...

"With Apologies" is now up for reading.

I am beginning to think that miming may be a much more effective form of communication for me to take up rather than writing.  Though I'm not too sure about how flattering the tight striped shirt and beret would look on me.

The neckerchief might work though...

Anyway, later all,

-Ed

18 / MAY / 05 - 0900 CST : Like swimming upstream through wet cement...

Getting this week's "With Apologies" written has proven to be pretty slow going.  Just haven't been able to get the old fingers to work the magic.

Still, I'm plugging away at it as we speak.  Or at least I was until I stopped to write this.

Sorry folks.  I've got a bunch of days off starting tomorrow so I'm hoping the time off helps to recharge my creative batteries.

Or at the very least allows me to wipe of some of this slackyness I've been soaking in for the past week.

Later folks,

-Ed

17 / MAY / 05 - 0000 CST : "Logical Assumption"

This week's strip is now up, and it already has words!  Wow!

"With Apologies" to follow sometime today.

Till then,

-Ed

15 / MAY / 05 - 1120 CST :  Aged to perfection...

15 or so days after taking it down, April's survey results are now up for your perusal.

As well, because this survey has to do with Geek Tragedy T-shirts, I figured that now would be a good time to mention that I should have a definite date as to when the first load of GT-shirts will be available sometime this coming week.  I promise, after me, I'll make sure you folks will be the first to know.

Still trying to come up with an idea for a new survey this month...hopefully something will come to me before the month is actually over.

Oh yeah, and a normal goat has four nipples.  A fact that I just found out today and I figured I'd share it with y'all.

Later,

-Farmer Ed

14 / MAY / 05 - 0720 CST :  What can I say, for the most part I lead a boring life...

Hey folks.

Just checking in to let you know that I haven't forgotten about all of you.  And contrary to what some of you may think, judging from the e-mails I've received anyway, I also haven't forgotten about posting the survey results or a new survey on top of that.

They're coming...soon.  Or perhaps eventually would be a more accurate time frame.

Other than that I don't really have any new or exciting Geek Tragedy new to relate to y'all.  Sorry.  When I do though, you'll be the first to know.

Till then,

-Ed

12 / MAY / 05 - 0415 CST : Personal growth...

Two things to mention at this point.

First off, as you can tell by my little pic beside the post here, my hair has grown back enough that I no longer feel the need to wear my paper bag of invisibility.

And the second thing is that I've now added a new "Dear mom," letter.  And because there wasn't a letter posted last week, it fills me with great joy to say that this one is twice as good as usual.

Of course that's not really true.  In fact if anything I feel it may be a bit sub-par compared to the others.  But none of that really changes the fact that saying otherwise still fills me with great joy.

Later folks,

-Ed

10 / MAY / 05 - 1230 CST : They are no longer speechless...

Okay!

"The Strip" is now chalked full of wordy goodness!  Thanks for your patience, and enjoy.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to work on something even more important than the strip before I go to bed.

0915 CST : This time I mean it...

Now "The Strip" is up in it's "no words" incarnation.  For some reason the pic wouldn't load up on the computer I was using before.

Still haven't made it home yet so I haven't had a chance to finish it up, but at least this way you'll get a bit more of a chance to see it the way I've been looking at it for the past eight hours or so.

Alrighty, time to log off and get ready to head home.

Later,

0750 CST - "Shattered Dreams"

Well we seem to have stepped into the Geek Tragedy bizzaro world because this week's "With Apologies" is now up, while the strip for this week won't be up for another few hours.

I will however post the strip as it is now without words for you guys to see before I get home to put those in.

Don't worry though, I won't go to sleep till I've got the bubbles in place and the completed strip up.

Later folks,

-Ed

08 / MAY / 05 - 1055 CST : Dear, dear, understanding mother...

I had big plans this week to help ring in Mother's Day for you mom, but unfortunately they all kinda went out the window along with my health.

However, while this lacks the fanfare that I was hoping to ring in your special day with, just let me take this moment to say...

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

 MOMMY!!

With lots of love,

Your son.

PS: It may not be much, but I bet my sister didn't wish you a happy Mother's Day on a web site for everyone to see, did she?

That's it for now folks.

Later,

-Ed

07 / MAY / 05 - 0830 CST : I am alive and well(ish)...

Hey folks,

While I'm not exactly ready to start "jazzercising" again, I am feeling a bit better for the first time since Tuesday.

Sorry about the lack of updates yesterday, but other than drugging myself into a coma, I wasn't really feeling up to doing much of anything.  Today is a different story however as I've already started getting back to work on the site, and you should hopefully see something new up other than a blog entry in the next day or so.

Oh, and by the way, I'd like to say congratz to my sis on coming in fourth in a poker tournament on Friday!  A tournament that I was supposed to be in, and had been looking forward to for months, but noooooo, I had to stay home in bed.

Anyway, way to go Jodi!

Later folks,

-Ed

PS:  From what I hear, of the few women that entered the tournament, 3 of them placed in the top 4.  So maybe this means we'll be seeing a few more women in the WSOP in the next few years...

05 / MAY / 05 - 1140 CST : I have nothing witty to say here...

Which in some people's opinions is pretty much par for the course.

Just wanted to let you guys know that this week's "With Apologies" is now up.

Things to keep in mind when you read it though.

1) It was written while I was (and still am for that matter) under the influence of cold medication.

2) Leone hasn't had a chance to pick it apart yet.

and 3) While I always set out to make these write-ups as commentaries on the the current strip, they always seem to stray from those guidelines.

More to come later folks,

-Ed

******

0520 CST : So full of sympathy it warms the heart...

My editor has now taken to the habit of not just correcting my spelling and sending me the dictionary definition of any words I misspell, but also sending me links so that I can hear how the word is supposed to sound when it's spoken.  I'm not sure if this is a display of her increasing dedication, or her endless sarcasm.

Oh, and to answer your question, yes Leone, I do "always whine this much" when I get sick.

Later,

-Ed

PS: By the way, you do realize that as my editor one of your duties is to bring me chicken noodle soup when I'm down with the cold right?  No really, it's true.  All the really great editors do that.

******

0245 CST - I am so...very...sick...

Well my desire to be "a trooper" and go into work sick proved to be short lived.

I am currently at home, soaked in misery, and drinking mass quantities of tea.  In between the seemingly constant stream of naps that my body is currently demanding I take, I'm doing what I can to catch up with everything that I'm behind on in regards to the site.

I'm not even going to guess at this point as to what sort of updates there will be, or when in the next couple of days they will be done though.  All I know is that it looks like I'm going to posting blog entries a hellova lot more often in the next little while, because if I don't I'm probably going to go stir crazy being couped up like this.

Also so far I find that typing is the sole activity I can do that doesn't aggravate my sore throat.  Plus it's the only form of communication I have right now that doesn't make me sound like I am going through puberty again.

Time for more tea.

Later,

-Ed

04 / MAY / 05 - 0945 CST : And Leone comes through yet again...

Just received a fresh batch of spelling, tenses, and typo alerts from Geek Tragedy editor Leone regarding "The Evolution on Noname."

I'll have these instituted within the next hour.

And yes Leone, "reinspired" is in fact another "Ed word."  By simply making words up instead of using the right ones, it allows a hack like me to get my writing done with less actual thought.  One day I hope to outgrow this, but for now I'm all about the "Ed-isms."

Later folks,

-Ed

******

0545 CST : Pictures are worth a thousand words...

And yet I still couldn't seem to stop myself from adding about a thousand of my own words along with the Noname evolution pics.  Talk about someone who likes to hear himself type...

Yes, at long last, "The Evolution of Noname" is now complete and has been added to last week's "With Apologies."  I also went and posted that write up on Noname's bio page in the "Meet the Geeks" section for good measure.

Who knows, maybe if you guys like it, or if I'm just really bored one day, I'll do something similar with the rest of the characters.

For now though, I'm going to set my sights on getting this week's "With Apologies" up with as little lateness as humanly possible.  Once up, everything should be back on track with the site, and then there will be no more delays...ever!

Yeah, right.  Like that'll happen.

Well at least I make sure that the strip is up on time every week.  I guess timely writing will have to be something that I just need to try harder on in the future.  Maybe one day the timeliness of my writing will be able to live up to "The Strip" standards that I've set for myself.

Time to pop another Halls cough drop, and get back to work I guess.

Later,

-Ed (who is the world's biggest wimp when it comes to colds)

03 / MAY / 05 - 2300 CST : Now this time I mean it...

First off, this cold is now officially kicking my ass.

Secondly, I've uploaded the pics for last weeks "With Apologies" to the server and providing I have enough time on my break at work (yes, I'm sick as a dog and still going into work because I'm a trooper dammit!) they'll be in place by morning.

Thricely (it's okay Leone, I know that's not a real word in your world, but in mine it is) this weeks "With Apologies" will be up after I've done the pic thing.

Enough yapping though, I have to get to work.

Later,

-Ed

******

0545 CST : Geek Tragedy, updated every 15 minutes!

Well not really, but at the moment it's true.

Forgot to mention that I've taken April's survey down and will do the write up for those results in the next couple days.  Plus I'll be adding the new survey for May just as soon as I figure out what dark secret I'd like you guys to share with me this month.

Okay, I'll be back to update you guys on the goings on of the GT universe sometime between 15 minutes from now and Thursday.

See ya then,

-Ed

******

 0530 CST : "Deep Thoughts"

The new strip is now up.  It's actually been up for about 7 hours previous to this post, but I just now got a chance to mention it.

"With Apologies" will be up sometime today.  When, I'm not too sure about, but I'm kinda hoping that it will be at least 30 seconds after I get the pics up for last week's "With Apologies".  That way I'll be able to say that I did in fact get them done before this week's was put on display.

Regardless of when it's up though, I bet y'all can guess what this week's apology is going to be, huh?

Only other thing I have to report right now is that next week's strip may be done in three, three panel instalments shown throughout the week, instead of one full page on Tuesday.  I'm hoping this won't be the case, but we'll see.

I figured I'd mention it now though so that if it does show up in three instalments, you guys don't just think that I just left it to the last minute.  Fact is I'm not sure how much time I'm going to be able to spend at home this weekend so I may have to break up the work a bit.

So you see, I really do plan ahead sometimes!

Anyway, blog ya later folks,

-Ed

PS: Oh yeah, and I seem to be coming down with a cold.  Just thought I'd mention that.  You know, I figured a shamelessly plea for some sympathy couldn't really hurt.  At least not as much as my throat does right now.

Ahh yes, I can hear your hearts breaking for me from here.

02 / MAY / 05 - I must be getting old...

It's now been two days after I went to the bar to catch a few bands play, and I'm happy to report that my hearing seems to have finally recovered.

Now I like loud music, and the Mudmen and the band after them played plenty loud, but the first band...well their amps obviously go to eleven.  The thing is, and keep in mind I'm no expert roadie or anything, maybe during their sound check they should have noticed that by playing that loud they didn't do anything to "enhance" their music.  Unless of course sounding like garbled shit was sound they were going for, in which case job well done guys!

You see, in their musical arsenal the Mudmen have two bagpipes, which I find to easily be the most frighteningly loud instrument ever created, and at no point did they drown out any of the other instruments, or the vocals.

Meanwhile, the first band's lead singer could've been singing "I'm a Little Teapot" all night long and I never would've been able to tell.

But enough bitching about those damn kids and their loud rock and roll type music.  I just wanted to drop by and say that the strip is just a few word bubbles shy of being done, so keep a look out for it to appear around midnight tonight.

That's all for now folks.

Later,

-Ed

PS:  No mom, the title of my last post was not a description of my planned activities for that night.  Drink and Fight is merely the name of one of the Mudmen's songs.
