30 / NOV / 05 - 1615 CST : My life has grown far too dependant on a small plastic box...

Hey folks.  For those of you who've been wondering why I didn't update the site yesterday like I usually do...well you're obviously not checking out the Geek Tragedy forum often enough.

Now I pretty much covered all the important details in the posting I made last night from work (long story short, my modem box thingy died and with it so did a large part of my life it seemed), but there are a couple things I didn't mention.

First off, in the future I plan to install the software necessary for me to update the site on another computer that uses a different internet connection.  That way, if this sort of thing ever happens again, I'll still be able to update the site (I'll just need to drive a half hour away in order to do it!).

And secondly, I really need to set-up some sort of back-up hobby that isn't totally dependent on an ever-present connection to the internet!  Seriously, I hadn't a clue what to do with myself around here for the past couple days.  There was a time that I would've just read a novel, or played a game, but it dawned on me yesterday that it's been over a year since I bought a new one of either of those things.

Anyway, as I'm sure you can tell by this here posting, everything is back to normal now.

Oh yeah, and here is yesterday's strip.

Alrighty folks, I'm off to bed.

28 / NOV / 05 - 1355 CST : Coming soon, to a theater near you...

Alrighty! I've got the strip up and ready to be viewed.

Now I can see how some people (say for example, my mother) may not like the direction I took with this strip, but as far as a personal challenge goes, I'm quite happy with it (though I do feel that I need to do some further tweaking to some of the colours, but I don't think I'll get to that till tomorrow when I'm getting Tuesday's strip ready).

Oh, and for those of you who don't get the reference to today's strip, you may want to click here.

That's all for now folks.

27 / NOV / 05 - 1315 CST : Fixing the strip...

Hey folks, as I predicted on Thursday, today's strip will in fact be late.  Look for it to up early Monday.  Sorry about that.

Oh, and I've done a few fixes to the "The Strip" page.  Nothing too major but some of you may find it easier to navigate through the strips now.

24 / NOV / 05 - 1615 CST : "It Begins - Pt. VII"

The "It Begins" chapter of this story draws to a close with today's strip.

I actually like this strip...a lot.  And let me tell you why.

It's not because it's the most challenging, or elaborate, or funniest strip (hell, there is barely a joke here in my opinion), or even because I feel it's the best strip I feel I've ever done.  No, not at all.

The reason I like this strip so much is that it actually turned out exactly as I had envisioned it when I first thought of it months ago, and that almost never happens for me.  And sure, it may seem egotistical of me to say that I really like one of my own strips, but keep in mind that I am chronically disappointed with most of my work.  So come on, let me have my moment here.

I also wanted to point out that I've recently had a significant boost to the number of people who have been visiting the site.  And while I'd like to take all the credit for this achievement, it actually belongs to someone else.  Namely Gaald over at GamersWithJobs who was kind enough to mention me on his site (okay, I'm told it's not Gaald's site, Certis runs it.  Still, it was nice of Gaald to mention GT!) and point some of his loyal readers in my direction.  Thanks man!

I'd also like to thank the folks over there who took the time to post on the forum and let me know what they thought of the site, and to point out a few problems they've encountered with it.  So thanks guys, for both the ego boost and for giving me a few things to think about as far as the technical side of the strip / site goes.

One final note.  About Sunday's strip / splash page...yeah, it may be kinda late.  Due to reasons which I somehow feel will quickly be taken out of my control, I may not be in the best of health that morning.  I'll do my best to get all my ducks in a row before then, but that hasn't worked too well in the past so I thought I'd give y'all a heads up.

Anyway, I think you all know where I'm headed now (I'll give you a hint, it's a three letter word that has my name in it).

22 / NOV /  05 - 1530 CST : "It Begins - Pt. VI"

Tuesday's strip is now up.

I had more to say, but I think it's best to wait till my eyes are actually open before I write more.  Off to bed now.

21 / NOV / 05 - 1010 CST : There he goes, whoring himself out again...

Howdy folks.

It's been suggested to me by a couple people that since Christmas is just a little over a month away, that maybe I should put up some more original artwork up for sale.  Well, seeing as how I'm often in the habit of blindly doing whatever anyone tells me to do, I've decided to go ahead and do just that.

If you click HERE or on the banner above (there is also one on "The Strip" page), you will be sent to my Ebay auction.  The panel I picked to try and sell off this time around is the full page strip I did for November the 17th.  The reason I chose this one is because it's a strip that seemed to get the most positive feedback I've ever received.  Like the last time I sold off some original work, I'll also be giving the winner of the auction a print of the finished work as it looks once it was posted on the site after I smacked it with the Photoshop stick.

So anyway, if you, or someone you know would like a little bit of Geek Tragedy this Christmas, please feel free to check out the auction.

That's all for now folks!

20 / NOV / 05 - 1235 CST : "It Begins - Pt. V"

Sunday's strip has arrived.  And shockingly enough has managed to do so before 3 o'clock!

I'm hoping to have that announcement that I mentioned yesterday up before go to bed.  It's nothing too earth shattering though, so if it has to wait till Monday I guess it won't be the end of the world or anything.

However, let me just take this moment to publicly apologize to all of you if I'm wrong, and I do in fact inadvertently bring about the apocalypse.  I promise it won't happen again.

19 / NOV / 05 - 0545 CST : My way of saying thanks...

Hey folks.

The Geek Tragedy "Thanks for voting" wallpaper is now coloured and ready to start defacing your computer screens.  All you have to do to get it is click on the VOTE button to cast your vote for Geek Tragedy, and you will find a link that you can cut and paste into your browser to get to whatever wallpaper best fits your screen.

For those of you who have already voted today and just can't wait to take a peek at the coloured version of the pic, here is a mini preview of what it looks like.

Enjoy folks!  I'll have a few other announcements either later today, or sometime tomorrow.

18 / NOV / 05 - 1140 CST : Apparently "lame" is spelt with an "I"...

Geek Tragedy editor and crappy music enthusiast Leone, has informed me that I spelt "Deon" wrong in yesterday's strip, and that it should in fact be "Dion".

This mistake has now been fixed.

Later,

-Ed

PS:  All kidding aside, thanks for catching that Leone!

*NOTE* Yeah, it kinda helps to actually post the changed strip, which I've now done.  Sorry.

17 / NOV / 05 - 1325 CST - "It Begins - Pt. IV"

Well today's strip is pretty far off from the usual three panel format that you've all grown used to seeing.  This type of "almost full-page" layout is pretty much the way I eventually hope every strip will look.  Of course for now I will most likely be flip-flopping from three panels to what you see today.  At least until I get a lot quicker at doing the strips this way.

Oh, and it's also in black and white.  Well actually it's in gray tones.  However, Grey is the only character that doesn't show up in today's strip! Now that's what you call useless information!

The reason I did today's strip in black and white is because I wanted to free up some time to do the colour work on the wallpaper ('cause I'd really like to get that out to you guys ASAP), and the colours are what usually takes up most of my time.  I will try my best to come back to this strip one day and colour it, however I don't think it looks too shabby the way it stands right now.  But really, you be the judge.

Okay folks, it's about that time now I guess.

Later,

Ed

PS: It would also be wrong of me not to mention that Taki Soma helped out with the last panel of the strip. Thanks for your advice Taki!

15 / NOV / 05 - 1635 CST : "Snow Day"

Hey folks!

I'm breaking with the current storyline (once again) with today's strip.

If you'd like to find out why, be sure to check out this thread in the forum.

And I'm spent...

-Ed

14 / NOV / 05 - 1310 CST : "It Begins - Pt. III"

I can't apologize enough for this strip being a day late.  Trust me when I say that I, more than anyone, hates it when this sort of thing happens.

It's such a webcomic cliché for a site to have late or missing strip updates, and I do try my best not to fall into those bad habits.  However, when other aspects of life come a callin' (as they are know to do), sometimes you've just gotta drop what you're doing and answer the freakin' door.  Which was the case here.  Still, I'll do what I can to get the strips up on time, even if that means having to put up a black and white strip every once and a while, and then colour it whenever I get a chance.

Which brings me to the Geek Tragedy wallpaper.  It's still not done being coloured, but should be by the end of the week.  I say "should" and not "will" because I've got a commission piece that I've been putting on the back burner for weeks now, and I've got to start getting that finished up by the end of the month.  Not that I don't think the wallpaper is important, it's just...you know...getting paid for something is kinda a nice way for me to be able to keep affording to eat, and so one must prioritize on occasion.

Well that's all for now folks.

Later,

-Ed

10 / NOV / 05 - 1730 CST : Before I slip into a coma...

I just wanted to let you folks know two things.

One, webcomicslist.com is now up, so you guys are once again able to vote for the site there if your heart desires (and why wouldn't it really?).

And two, the navigation buttons should now be working on all of the strip pages regardless of what browser you're using.  Which brings to a close the third, and oh for the love of God please let it be the last time I've redone the strip archives.

Alrighty everyone, time for me to sleep,

Ed

1340 CST : "Guest Strip - by Lar deSouza"

Last night I woke up before work and checked my e-mail only to find out that I had quite the nice little surprise waiting for me in my inbox, compliments of Lar deSouza.  Once I saw it, I knew damn well that this was just far too good to keep to myself, and so I immediately decided that it would become the very first Geek Tragedy guest strip.

Those of you who have spent any time in the Geek Tragedy forum have gotten to know Lar (who goes by lartist on the forum) a little bit over the past month or so.  Some of you no doubt already knew of him even before that from either his work on "Least I Could Do" or the other work he does.  I personally am a huge fan of Lar's work, and his artistic style in general.  So to have him take the time to infuse his skill with one of my characters, well I just thought that was the coolest thing ever!

Plus getting a chance to see Casey lay down a sound bitch slappin' on Casper...priceless!

Thank you so much Lar!  I just hope I can convince you to do another guest strip for me sometime in the future!

In other news...

I am both a pimp, and a whore...

I've added, and will continue to add more items to the Geek Tragedy Cafepress store in the next week or so.  I've also worked out a way to allow those of you who live in the great white north like I do to save a bit on the higher cost of having items sent out our way.  I already posted this on the forum, but allow me to repeat it here for those of you who haven't read that post yet.

I've worked out a way for you folks who live up here in Canada (like myself) to catch a bit of a break on the shipping charges for the GT Cafepress items. If you guys want to order any items through me, by doing so I'll be able cut the shipping rates you'd pay to be, at the very least, on par with what folks in the US would be charged for shipping.

However, in order to do this there will be a few conditions:

Canadian orders done through me will need to be placed and paid for before certain pre-set times. This will allow me to give everyone a good idea as to exactly when there order will be shipped to them.

To place an order with me, you'll need to send an e-mail off to store@geektragedy.com letting me know the item you'd like to buy, how many you need, and if you can pay through PayPal or will require another option instead. Once I get your e-mail, I will be sure to get back to you within 24 hours so that I can:

1) Let you know what the total for your order will be.

2) Work out any payment method issues.

3) Let you know when payment will be required at the latest and when the item will be shipped to you.

Now I know some of you were wanting to receive certain items before Christmas hits, so in order to facilitate this I'm making the first cut off date for the orders to be November 30th. I know that seems pretty early, but this will allow enough time for Cafepress to produce the items, ship them to me, and then in turn give me enough time to get the items out to you before Santa shows up.

(Cafepress's holiday shipping cut off date for international orders is Dec. 9th, which will get the item(s) to you by Dec. 23rd. So if I wait any longer than November 30th to place my order, I may not have time to resend the items out to you once they arrive at my door)

So there you have it folks. If you'd like to save a few bucks on shipping (and you're from Canada of course), than this is the way to go. However, if you just can't wait to get your hands on GT merch, or time is a serious factor for you, then you can always order direct from Cafepress.

Oh, and one more thing I should mention. I'll be adding a bunch more stuff to the store in the next week or so. So if you don't see anything there that appeals to you right now, you may want to keep checking back over the next few days.

Okay, pimp mode is now "off".

'Cause all browsers should be equal in the eyes of Geek Tragedy...

I'm going to be spending some time today trying to get most of the strip pages working, and looking right with Netscape and FireFox browsers.  So with any luck, all of you non-IE using people out there will be able to use the navigation buttons to scroll through all of strip, instead of just the full page ones, by the end of the day.

As well, if I have time after, I will be trying my best to get a bunch of the other pages on the site to look less uglyfied when viewed through those browsers.  Honestly, if I knew just how bad various areas looked for you folks I would've been sure to have fixed that problem a long time ago.

Thank again for your patience regarding this matter guys!

And last but not least...

I'm leaving on a jet plane, don't know when I'll be back again...

Okay actually I do know, and it'll be Sunday.

I'm off to Minneapolis this weekend so I'm afraid that there won't be any blog posts for the next few days.  This also means that anything I don't get done by the end of today, won't be completed till after the weekend.  Plus there is a good chance that I won't be returning any e-mails sent to me for the next few days.

There will however still be a new strip posted on Sunday, I'm just not sure at what time it'll be up.

Well that's it for now I guess.  If I don't post again tonight, then I hope y'all have a great weekend (I know I will), and I'll blog at ya when I get back.

Later,

Ed

PS:  Webcomicslist.com still seems to be down, and I have no idea when it'll be up again, so it looks like voting will be put on hold for a while.  If anyone out there happens to know any info about what's going on with that site (like when it'll be back up again) could you please drop me an e-mail and let me know if you have a minute?  Thanks.

08 / NOV / 05 - 1415 CST : "It Begins- Pt. II"

When you look at today's strip don't be alarmed!  I am not planning on switching to a black and white strip format from now on.  In fact I fully intend to colour this strip very soon (hopefully before Thursday's strip is up).

What happened here is that I other non-Geek Tragedy related areas of my life required some attention, and that put me a bit behind.  And while normally I'd just stay up till the colours are done, I have to get up early tonight so that's not an option today.  Like I said though, I will be colouring this strip in the near future.

One other thing to note is the webcomiclist site seems to be down for maintenance and that is why the voting link currently looks broken.  I'm sure once that site is back up and running, the link will go back to normal and you can all vote again.

While you're waiting for that though, you can always click the button above that to go to Onlinecomics.net, and add me to your favorites.  You know, if you feel so inclined.

Alrighty folks, I'm off!

07 / NOV / 05 - 1615 CST : There are still no Geek Tragedy T-shirts...

But you can now buy Geek Tragedy hats, mugs, and boxers at our Cafe Press store.

I had always wanted to do any sort of Geek Tragedy merchandise completely "in-house", but unfortunately that just isn't an option at this point.  So instead I've gone ahead and set up some stuff at Cafe Press.  I'll be adding more items, and different designs to existing items as time goes on, so if you have any suggestions please feel free to drop me a line.

Just so you know, I do still plan to have Geek Tragedy T-shirts available before Christmas.  However what I plan, and what actually happens don't seem to intersect too often.  So for the time being take a look through the store and see if there is anything you like.

Okay, I'm off to see if I can't get back to sleep now.

Later,

Ed

0930 CST : An age old battle...

Hey folks.

I'm heading to bed early today to try and catch up on the sleep I lost over the weekend.  Before I do though, I just wanted to mention that a black and white version of what will become the newest Geek Tragedy wallpaper is up in the webcomicslist voting area.

Once it's coloured (should be in the next few of days) I will post a link as to where you can download it from in the "Thanks for voting" area.  The reason I'm posting the wallpaper there instead of on the site is because the wallpaper is my way of thanking you folks who vote for Geek Tragedy, and this way I can be certain you people are the ones who get to check it out first.

Thanks again for voting people, and please keep up the great work!

Later,

Ed

06 / NOV / 05 - 1800 CST : This time for sure...

Fixed today's strip page.  Okay, now I'm off to bed.

1750 CST : I'm about five minutes away from becoming Amish...

'Cause I seriously doubt that they ever have to go through this kinda shit.

Okay, I'd thought I had worked out the problem, but no such luck.  For some reason everything works perfectly fine until I insert the actual comic.  Then all of a sudden the navigation buttons stop working properly.

Anyway, I'm printing up the code for days strip page, as well as the code for Crossing Genres - Pt. V (which seems to work just fine with Netscape and the other browsers) and will do my best to figure out what the difference between them is tomorrow after I've slept.

*sigh* Sorry folks, I really thought I'd fixed it.

1545 CST : "It Begins - Pt. I"

Alrighty folks!  The Geek Tragedy Christmas storyline has now officially begun!

Also, those of you who use Netscape, Firefox, and Opera should start noticing some improvements to the site over the next few days.  At the moment, the current strip page's navigation buttons should now work for you guys. (okay, it seems it doesn't work quite as well as it did before I published it to the web, but I'll do my best to fix that before I go to bed)  Granted that is pretty much the ONLY strip page that will fully work for you right now, but every spare moment I get this week will go into fixing all the other strip pages.  So before long y'all should be able to click through the strips the way I had intended for you guys to be able to do from the very beginning.

I big thank you goes out to Troy (who's last name I won't mention 'cause I don't know if he'd be cool with that) for not just alerting me to problems with the strip pages, but for also taking the time to look over my code and point me in the right direction as to how to fix it.  Thanks man, I owe ya!

As well, you folks who are using the various browsers that have been having trouble with the strip pages should start to notice that some of the site's pages look less screwy now as well.  When I built the site I made the mistake of not testing it out with other browsers, and as such I didn't realize just how bad certain pages looked when viewed through them.  Well from now I on I will be sure to test out any new pages I  make using as many browsers as I can find, and in turn will do my best to go back and see what I can do with the ones I've already created.

Okay, I'd like to write more, but my bed is a callin'!

03 / NOV / 05 - 1400 CST : "Community Disservice - Pt. V.5"

Well I had planned to kick off the Geek Tragedy Christmas story line today, but then I realized that before I do that, maybe I should address the fact that Grey is once again a free man.  Which is exactly what I did in today's strip.

In other news, Webcomicslist.com reset its top 100  list for the month of November yesterday, and thanks to you guys jumping on those vote buttons like Mr. Bojangles jumps on a moogle, I'm currently well past the 50 mark now.  Thank you so much!  In the next week or so I will be making an announcement about how those of you that voted will have a chance to win a little something special from Geek Tragedy to thank you for your efforts.

As well, I intend to set up monthly incentives to hopefully reward those of you folks who continue to for vote GT! (and don't worry, I haven't forgotten about the wallpaper I already promised you guys) More details on that to come later...

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to try out my brand spanking new Wacom Intous3 tablet which just showed up at my door this morning.

Thank you mom, and Jodi for this early Birthday / Christmas present!

Later,

Ed

PS:  For those of you who are wondering why the Serenity banners are still up on all the pages this long after the movie has opened, it's due to a design flaw that was put into place when I built the site (one on a long list of problems actually that I plan to tackle just as soon as I have the time) which requires me to remove each banner from every freakin page individually.  A task that I just know will prove to be as long and boring of a process as it sounds, and so I've been putting off doing it for well over a week now.

Anyway, I do intend to take them down soon, but in the mean time why don't you folks go out and see the movie one more time before I do!

******

01 / NOV / 05 - 1415 CST : For those about to vote...

I salute you!

Oh, and the webcomicslist.com site seems to be down so voting may not work at the moment.

I'll post an update about this once I find out more as to why it's down and if or when it'll be up again.

Later,
