31 / OCT / 05 - 1445 CST : "Trick or Treat!"

Hey folks.

The Halloween strip is now up.  And to answer your question, yes I do think it's a bit egotistical to dress up one of my characters as another one of my characters for Halloween.  But that's just how I roll baby!

Okay, come Thursday we'll be getting back to an ongoing storyline.  And as sad as this may sound, it's the beginning of the Geek Tragedy Christmas story.  Yeah, I know, I know.  It's a little freakin' early for that kinda thing, but it's a long ass tale to tell so I need to get a bit of a jump on it.

Before I wrap this up for today, there is something that I've been meaning to mention since I posted that thank you strip on Saturday.  That strip was co-written by my good buddy Travis (Vitamin-T on the GT forum) who attended Valley Con with me.  And when I say co-written, I mean he pretty much came up with the whole idea and I just typed it out.

Thanks Travis!

Okay, I gotta take a nap before the little Caseys and goblins start showing up at my door.

Later,

Ed

30 / OCT / 05 - 1430 CST : I'll make this brief...

'Cause my brain is rapidly turning to mush.

-Bios for the fab four of the Geek Tragedy crew are now up.

-The GT FAQ, some contact info, and a dumbass bio of me are all up on the "Info & Misc" page.

-Ironically enough, the link to the "Links" page is still not functional ATM.

-Hopefully more stuff will be posted tomorrow shortly after I get the Halloween strip up.

-I am now going to go to bed.

Later,

-Ed

29 / OCT / 05 - 1350 CST - "Hotel Amenities"

Well as you know I was planning on taking this week off from doing strips to work on the site, then you guys had to go ahead and help me get on Webcomicslist.com's Top 100 list!  So here is that strip I promised you.

The wallpaper will be done in the first week of November, so keep an eye out for it then.

One thing I noticed while doing today's strip is that I still have a long ways to go before I perfect the way I want female characters to look when drawn "Geek Tragedy" style.  Hopefully I'll have it down in a couple months when I introduce the newest reoccurring female character.

Well, I've still got a ton of work to do, so I guess I'll talk to y'all later.

-Ed

PS:  Oh yeah, the first strip for next week will most likely show up on Monday instead of Tuesday (which is the normal first strip day of the week).  It's a Halloween strip/pic, so I figure it would be better to have it posted on Halloween day, rather then the day after.

******

27 / OCT / 05 - 1445 CST - You guys rock...

It's just that simple.  Thank you so much for getting me on the webcomicslist.com list.  And as promised I will be posting a strip during this "week off", and will be making up a Geek Tragedy Wallpaper for y'all.  Look for the strip to be up either Friday, or Saturday, and the Wallpaper will be ready in the first week of November.

And hey, if you folks can find it in your hearts to keep the voting up for a while yet, I promise I'll do something special for you again if Geek Tragedy hits the top 50.  Perhaps one of you will even have a chance at some original Geek Tragedy artwork (yeah, yeah, I know.  But I can't exactly afford to give away Porsches can I?).

Now before I head off to bed, I just wanted to give you a brief update as to what's happening with the "Under Construction" parts of the site.  I've been plugging away at the bios, and other parts of the site (the extra artwork, past "Dear mom," letters, and some other content that was on the old site will be returning soon) and things are going pretty good so far.  Tedious, but  good.

The one part I haven't had much luck with so far though, is getting the navigation buttons on the strip pages to work with certain browsers yet.  Still, I'm hoping this will be fixed before the weekend is out, and I'd like to thank Troy for pointing out certain areas of code which might be causing the problem.

One I've got things working the way they should, and all the content is done the way I'd like it to be, I'll post it right away, and make the links that lead to this content active (though, I suspect some of you might have been snooping and seen some of it by now anyway...you know who you are).

Well that's all for now, I'm off to bed!

26 / OCT / 05 - 0830 CST - Okay, I'll make a deal with y'all...

I've mentioned this before, but by clicking on the Webcomicslist.com button to your left you're voting for my comic on that site.  You can do so once every 24 hours, and by doing so you can help me hit the top 100 list and give the site a bit more exposure.

Well I'm not going to beat around the bush here, I really want on that damn list people!  And I know that if most of you folks who show up to the site were all to vote just once a day for a couple of days, I'd be well up there.

Now some people may be far too moral to resort to bribery.  Luckily for y'all though I traded away my morals a long time ago for a twinkie and bag of corn nuts.

So here's the deal.  'Cause I'm trying to work on the site itself right now, there won't be any new strips till next Tuesday.  However, if I get on that list before Tuesday, not only will I do a strip before then for you folks, but I'll also make up a Geek Tragedy wallpaper for the month of November for y'all.

So there you have it.  I know it's not as good as me offering to run over to each of your houses and massage your feet, but it's something anyway.

Okay, I need to get back to writing character bios.

Later,

-Ed

0730 CST : Alternate geeks...

Hey folks!

Still working behind the scenes here trying to fill up the rest of the site with content.  In the mean time though, and because there are no strips this week, here are the first in a series of sketches that I'll be posting on the site.

I give serious thought every once and a while to redesigning all the GT crew. Here is an alt version of Noname.  Whenever I draw him in some other form I always seem to make him looked pissed for some reason.

Here is an alt version of Frank.  Yes, there

is a reason Frank has black eyes no matter

how I draw him.  And no, I won't tell you

what that reason is.

How Annie-May was going to look right up until about 30 seconds before I drew her into the strip.  I had planned to make her as creepy as possible, rather than Frank's dream woman.

Okay guys, the next time I'll be posting here hopefully it'll be to tell you that some of the new site content is up.

Later,

25 / OCT / 05 - 1145 CST : Just a taste for now...

I've added some pics to the con report.  I have a fair number of other pics that I'll be setting up a whole other page for, but most likely not today.

I'm hoping to have some other stuff added to the site either  today or tomorrow, so you may want to keep a look out for that.  Unfortunately for now, I have to go and do some running around, so I guess I'll catch y'all later.

-Ed

0630 CST : I lost my ability to proof read in the war...

The Valley Con report has been edited a bit in an effort to make me look slightly less illiterate.  However, I'm sure there are still many more mistakes in it that missed.

Oh, and the pics will be added soon.

-Ed

PS: *sigh* It may also help if I were to invest in a globe as well.  'Cause Fargo is in North Dakota, not Grand Forks, isn't it?  It's like I don't do a good enough job of proving I'm an idiot in private, so I just have to go and display that fact in a public arena as well.  Sorry Fargo!

******

24 / OCT / 05 -  2359 CST : Pic-less post...

Okay, here is the dealy-o.

The write-up for Valley Con will be posted now In the "With Apologies" section, but the supporting pics won't be up till sometime tomorrow.

Yes, I'm disappointed by this as well, but if you've all learned to deal with Firefly being cancelled, I'm sure we can deal with this.  Anyway, I'll be sure to let you know here when I've posted the pics, so keep those eyes peeled.

Till then,

-Ed

PS: Neither I, nor Leone have proofread the Valley Con write up, so typos are to be expected.

1910 CST : "Community Disservice - Pt. V"

Sunday's strip is finally up.

I had been hoping to have it up much earlier, but my body will just not stop rebelling against being awake during the day, so I had to take a nap.  Plus I needed to run over to my moms house and pick up a whole bunch of food she made for me over the weekend.

Does that make me a momma's boy? Yes, yes it does.  However until I learn how to cook for myself, I'm willing to live with that title as long as it gets me fed.

The Valley Con report (or at least part of it, depending on how wordy I get) will be up later tonight.  Now that the sun is going going down, and my inner vampire is waking up, I'm getting pretty wired now.

Before I get cracking at the report though, I just want to mention two things.  First off, I know that a lot of you folks are still have trouble with the strip navigation buttons, and I will do my best to fix that over the next few days.  Keep in mind you can still use "The Archives" page to check out the past strips, but I do understand that it's kind of a pain to do it that way.

Secondly, as mentioned before, I am in fact taking this week off doing the strip.  Unfortunately due to the cold I had last week, and Valley Con over the weekend, I wasn't able to get three strips ahead like I had hoped.  So while I will be putting something up on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday this week, it will most likely not be fully inked and coloured strips.

I know what you're thinking, "Wow Ed, late updates, missing updates, posting sketches instead of strips...you're turning into a real webcartoonist aren't you!"

Well all I can say is, that's cold guys.  Real cold.  But yes, it's true.

Still, at this point I'm willing to miss a week of strips if it means that I can finally get some (or hopefully all) of the "Under Construction" pages finished.  So hopefully when the week is over, and everything is back to normal, you'll all agree it was worth it.

Later,

-Ed

PS:  Because I know you can't wait till I post the update to hear it...

Yes Leone, Kevin Sorbo is every bit as sexy in person as he is on TV.  And I mean that in the most heterosexual way possible.

23 / OCT / 05 - 1845 CST : Back, tired, bed...

Hey folks.

I'm back from Valley Con, my house is freakin' freezing, and I'm about 4 minutes away from slipping into a coma.  Look for Sunday's strip, along with a nice large update on all the con shenanigans to be posted sometime tomorrow when I've actually had some sleep, and I regain ability to write words good again.

Later,

-Ed

21 / OCT / 05 - 0645 CST : Oh those silly Google ads...

If anyone was wondering why the Google ads sometimes advertise some fairly odd things on this site, it has to do with the fact that the content within them is often determined by words found in the blog entries or page descriptions.  So basically, I don't really pick the ads, they pick me.

But that's not why I'm posting.

It's been brought to my attention that some folks using certain browsers and / or operating systems may be having issues with the site's functionality (Thanks for the heads up Troy!).  If you're one of these people, please let me know what browser / OS you're using and where you find you have trouble.  I'll do my best to work on this problem when I get back this weekend.

Okay folks, time to finish getting ready to head out to Valley Con.

Later!

-Ed

PS:  MONKEY   MONKEY   MONKEY    MONKEY (sorry, I was just wondering how the Google ads will react to monkeys).

20 / OCT / 05 - 1615 CST : "Community Disservice - Pt. IV"

Today's strip has arrived!

Well my cold seems to finally be wearing off.  Which is good, 'cause it sure did one hellova good job of knocking me on my ass for the past couple of days.

Now I'm sure you're all sick of hearing this, but I just wanted to remind you guys that I'll be away for the weekend, and won't be back till sometime on Sunday.  So while Sunday's strip should still be up that day, I have no idea what time it'll be up.

There are few things I wanted to comment on about today's strip, but unfortunately I'm running short of time right now.  If I do have a few minutes later on though, I'll most likely be posting them either here, or in the Geek Tragedy forum.

However, if I don't talk to you folks before I leave for Valley Con, have a great weekend, and I'll see ya on Sunday.

Later,

-Ed

18 / OCT / 05 - 1120 CST : "Community Disservice - Pt. III"

It's a good thing today's strip was finished yesterday, 'cause I sure don't feel much like staring at a computer screen for hours on end today.

All in all, this is not the worst cold I've ever had, though it would crack the top 5 at this point.  One thing I usually never get with a cold is a sinus headache.  I don't know why, I've just always been lucky that way.  Today however...wow!

I'm not even sure if you could call what I had earlier a "sinus headache", as doing so would be much like passing off prison rape as "tender foreplay".  For a moment there I fully expected my right eye to suddenly pop out of my head, and rocket across the room in an effort to relieve some of the pressure that was building up behind it.

Then again, I'm pretty well known among my friends and family for being a big baby when it comes to getting colds, so I could be exaggerating just a teeny bit here.

Well that's all for now folks. I'm off to wallow in self pity.

Later,

17 / OCT / 05 - 1530 CST : Sick but productive...

Hey folks.

Shower me in sympathy, for I am so very sick right now.  All I can say though is, better that it happens now, rather then at the end of the week when I head out of town.  'Cause I don't know about you, but being sick while on road trip is not my idea of fun on wheels.

On a positive note however, for the first time in I don't remember how long, I actually have one of the strips done a full 24 hours before it'll be posted.  So if things keep going this way, with any luck I'll have that three strip buffer ready to go for next week.

Oh, and I also updated the "Of the Moment" box.  I think any of you folks out there that are as fond of zombie movies as I am will get a kick out Urban Dead.  Especially if you're also as much of a fan of the old text based MUDs as I am.

Well, I'm off to try sleep away this cold.

Later,

-Ed

16 / OCT / 05 - 1630 CST: "Community Disservice - Pt. II"

You ever have one of those weekends where you plan to get a whole bunch of stuff done, and then before you know it the weekend is over, and you haven't accomplished squat? Pretty much what happened here!

Oh, but I did get the strip finished though, so at least something got done.

Now I've mentioned some of the following here before, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to repeat it just in case some of you folks missed it.

I'm going to be heading off to Valley Con in Fargo this coming weekend. And the following week is when I'm going to be taking a week off from doing the strip, so that I can just work on finishing up the site itself.  Now what this means for the strip is this:

Sunday's strip will in fact be up sometime on Sunday, but the specific time that it'll be up will depend on when I get back into town from the con.

Now the strips for that following week, the week I'm taking off, will also be up the same time that they normally are.   At least I think they will be, providing I can swing a three strip buffer before that week arrives.  If I can't though, I promise that I will have some sort of new, or as of yet unseen work for you guys to check out.

Well, that's all for now folks.  I hope y'all had a great weekend, and if I don't post before then, guess I'll talk to you on Tuesday when the next strip is up.

Later,

-Ed

13 / OCT / 05 - 1530 CST : "Community Disservice - Pt. I"

Head on over to "The Strip" area and watch as Grey starts off on his very first solo storyline!

Before I crawl off to bed there is something I've been meaning to mention.

Would you like to pimp for Geek Tragedy?

First off, if you look to your left you'll see two links.  One for Onlinecomics.net, and one for Webcomicslist.com.

Now if you click on the webcomicslist.com link, it'll take you to the section of their site that allows you to vote for my comic.  You can vote once per day if you like. Now this is a very simple way for you guys to help me promote the site a bit, as enough votes puts me on their top 100 page, and that in turn gives my site some more exposure.  So if you guys like the strip, please help a brother out and vote for me any day that you happen to visit.

Now the other link takes you to Onlincomics.net site, but you can't really vote for me there.  What you can do though is add me to your favorites, and leave a comment for me there as well.  Now this would however require you to create an account.  The account is free, but it'll mean you're going to have to give up some info, which I'll understand if don't want to do (Keep in mind though you can always make some stuff up if you'd rather not part with certain details.  Not that I would ever suggest that, or do it myself but...).

Thanks guys, I'll try not to bother y'all about this again anytime soon.

Oh, and if anyone out there has any suggestions as to how I could further promote / pimp the site a bit, please drop me an e-mail, or swing on by the "Forum" and post your thoughts on the matter (or on any matter really).

Well I think that's all for now.  I should have some various bits of news and stuff to share with you folks this weekend before Sunday's strip, so I guess I'll talk to then.

Later,

-Ed

11 / OCT / 05 - 1235 CST : "Viewer Feedback - Pt. III"

In an effort to stall you guys for a little while till I work out all the kinks in the Grey storyline I'm working on, I present you with a look at some fan mail in today's strip.

I'm giving serious thought to going back to full page strips sometime in what could possibly be the not too distant future.  If I do I still want to try and have new strips up every Tues, Thurs, and Sunday, so it'll mostly depend a lot on how much time full pages will eat up, and if I can swing it.  With any luck though my Wacom tablet will get here sometime this week, and we'll see if that helps speed up some of the strip work for me.

Well, that's all for now folks.

Later,

10 / OCT / 05 - 1445 CST : Surface before substance, that's what I always say...

Hey folks.

More cosmetic changes have been made to the site now.  Character pics have been added to the "Meet the Geeks" page, but still no bios as of yet.  I was going to transfer the old bios that were up on the old site and just use those, but I just didn't like them very much.

I'll keep chipping away at that page for the next few days though, so you may want to take a peek over there every once and a while.

Later,

-Ed

0545 CST : "Borrowed Time - Pt. III"

I've been fed, I've taken a nice long nap (if you sleep for five hours, is it still called a nap?), and the fully finished strip is now up.

I'd love to chat more folks, but I've got a bunch of site, and house work to get to.

Oh, and to all my fellow Canadians out there, I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

09 / OCT / 05 - 0800 CST : Prettying the place up a bit...

Hey folks.

Done some minor cosmetic touch ups to "Info & Misc" page.  There are now buttons up there that will eventually lead to the content that this area is supposed to be home to.  Next up this weekend will be to get those temp character bio's up in the "Meet the Geeks" section that I mentioned a few days ago.

Oh, and I updated the "Of the Moment" box.  Several months ago I stumbled upon a few pages of what was then an ongoing webcomic called Return to Donnelly.   Since that time this comic has undergone a slight name change, and has also been picked up by a publisher.

Talismen is a labor of love for artist / writer team Barb Jacobs, and Steven Philip Jones, and goes much farther back than this comic.  They've been working on a series of illustrated young adult novels for years, and it seems that things are finally starting to build up speed for them.

As morbid as this may sound, Barb has a real knack for drawing dead bodies in my opinion.

Exile picks up many years after the young adult books are to have taken place, and seems to be geared towards more of an older audience.  Of course I was big into comics that weren't exactly "kids books" when I was a younger, and on the flip side of that coin, how many adults enjoy the Harry Potter novels?  So I guess it may be best not to pigeon-hole either of these works into any sort of stringent category.

Anyway, I've grown quite fond of Barb's artwork and I hope to see a lot more of it in the future.  And from what I've seen of Talismen: ROTE so far, I think it would be well worth it if you guys check it out.

Best of luck to you and Steven in the future Barb!

Alrighty!  I've guess I should get my ass in gear and get back to work on my own comic now, huh?

See ya in a few hours folks!

06 / OCT / 05 - 1545 CST : "Borrowed Time - Pt. II"

When you look at today's extremely text heavy strip you need to keep two things in mind.

First off, Leone, Geek Tragedy's resident spellchecker, editor, tyrant, and all around bonnie lass, has yet to have seen it.  So there is a good chance it is filled, albeit temporarily, with typos.

And secondly, despite the fact that there is waaaaaay too much text in this tiny three panel strip, I did in fact edited it down a fair amount from the original draft.  So if you think it's too long now, keep in mind that I could've been a lot wordier.

It's too bad too, 'cause I was really quite fond of the joke that ended up on the editing room floor.  Almost makes me wonder if I shouldn't go back to doing full page strips.  One day maybe...

That's all for now folks.

Later,

-Ed

PS: I updated the "Of the Moment" box with a song that has been around for quite a while, but I thought some of you guys might not have heard it yet, and would get a kick out it.

******

05 / OCT / 05 - 1015 CST : I've said it before, and I'll say it again...

People who use words like "magical" and "beautiful" to describe snow, obviously DON'T LIVE IN WINNIPEG!

Seriously, I love this city.  No, really I do.  But snow in the beginning of freakin' October!  Come on!

Why do I get the feeling that the founders of this city just showed up in summer and start building shit here without waiting to see what the winters were like?

"It snowith here in the beginning of October?  Screwith that!  We shall movith the city!"

"But sir, we hath already buildith thy Starbucks."

 "Son-of-thine-bitch!  Alas, I guess we shall stay...ith."

Anyway, that's not why I'm posting.  I was checking out the stats of the site and found out that one of the most often visited pages here at Geek Tragedy is the "Meet the Geeks" page.  Now I guess I should of seen that one coming and put something up there last month, but it just kept being pushed to the back burner.  Well, I just wanted to let you guys know that I'll have some sort of temporary character bio's page up by the end of this weekend.

Hopefully that will give you guys at least something to look over, and help you get to know the GT crew until the permanent page is up.

Okay folks, I'm off to try and catch up on the sleep I've missed out on for the past week or so.

Later,

-Ed

PS:  What do you mean people didn't talk like that back then?  That stuff was almost straight out of Anne of Green Gables!

04 / OCT / 05 -  1625 CST : "Borrowed time"

Tuesday's strip is now up...finally!

And to think, I was convinced that I'd have it up early enough today to have time to go out and see Serenity again.  Guess that ain't gonna happen now.

Two things to report before I go to bed:

One, I will be taking a week off from doing the strip sometime in late October, early November.  This is so I have a full week to work on the site itself, and finish off the areas that have been "Under Construction" forever!  Hopefully though, I'll have built up enough of a strip buffer (sounds dirty, don't it?) that I won't be missing any updates.  However, I figured it'd be better to give you guys a heads up just in case.

And two, I will be attending Valley Con in Fargo (as a fanboy, not as a webcartoonist) on the weekend of Oct. 21st to the 23rd.  So depending on when I get back that Sunday, the strip may not be up till later in the day.  Which, considering when the strips tend to get posted anyways, means that it'll pretty much just be business as usual here at Geek Tragedy, huh?

Well, that's all for now guys.

Later,

-Ed

02 / OCT / 05 - 1615 CST : "Absolut Agony"

Okay, I'd be lying if I said today's strip wasn't pretty sub-par.

Now the reasoning behind it's lackluster state is pretty much covered in both the title of the strip and the strip itself, so I won't go into any more detail right now.  Besides, I am just plain dying to head off to bed at this point so I'd rather keep this posting as brief as possible (though I may have a few more things add about this subject tomorrow).

One thing I will tell you before I head to bed is that I've never been more tempted to just not produce a strip on a scheduled strip day.  However, I wouldn't call in sick to work because of a hang over, so why should I use one as an excuse to not fulfill my obligations to both the site, and you guys who visit it.

And even though the strip I did manage to complete wasn't my best work ever, just be glad that I didn't go ahead with my first intention.  'Cause if I had, y'all would've been bearing witness to the triumphant return of that dynamic April Fool's duo, Sunshine and Lollypop!

Now, at long last, I get to go back to sleep.

Later,

-Ed

PS: And just incase a certain someone was going to e-mail about misspelling the title of today's strip, I promise you that Absolut is indeed spelt correctly.

01 / OCT / 05 - 1050 CST : I just don't get how some people can do this every damn day...

Hey folks.

Heading out to a wedding this afternoon, so it looks like Ed is gonna have to strap on a shirt and tie for the first time in two or three years.

Personally, I don't understand how some folks can stand wearing a tie to work on a regular basis.  The tie itself isn't the bad part in my opinion.  It's the having to walk around with the top shirt button done up all day that really kills me.  Seriously, it makes me feel like I'm constantly being force choked.

But enough bitching.  I just wanted to drop by and say hi to all the folks to who have been visiting the site from Blank Label Comics.  I hope you like what you've seen so far.

Alrighty, I'll talk to you guys tomorrow when I post Sunday's strip.

Later,

-Ed
