30 / SEP / 05 - 1730 CST : Desperately need some sleep...

But before I got to bed, I just wanted to let y'all know that the Geek Tragedy Forum is now up and (hopefully) running smoothly.

But thanks to poor site design, and a serious lack of forethought on my part, not all of the Forum links on all of the pages will be taking you to the forum at the moment.  Some of them will instead take you to the "Under Construction" forum page instead.

However, the forum link on that page will take you to the forum.  If that makes any sense.  Hopefully it does.  I'm too tired to judge at this point.

Anyway, I'm guessing there won't be a whole flood of people climbing over each other to start posting on the forum, but for those of you who would like to let me just take this opportunity to say, "Welcome, and come on in!"

Okay, I go sleep now.

29 / SEP / 05 - 1500 CST : "Crossing Genres - Pt. VII"

Hey Folks!

The final installment of the Crossing Genres storyline is now up.

From the very moment I started this storyline I knew exactly how I was going to bring this sucker to a close.  It was one of those rare moments when I could envision a strip with such crystal clear clarity that once it came to putting pencil to Bristol board, I knew the strip would practically draw itself.

And then in the last minute I decided to scrap that idea, and go a completely different route.

I also played around with some colouring techniques today.  I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, but it's become fairly obvious to me that I've still got a lot to learn when it comes to photoshop.

I can't wait to check out Serenity tomorrow!  Make sure y'all go out and do the same!

Okay, off to bed.

27 / SEP / 05 - 1515 CST: "Crossing Genres - Pt. VI"

Today's ham-fisted attempt at humor can be seen here.

I'm not going to tell you guys whether or not the characters I've introduced in this storyline will become regular reoccurring characters or not, but I will say this;

You'll see both of them at least once more before the year is out (and this isn't including Thursday's strip which will wrap up this storyline).  So I'm guessing I've either hooked ya into staying tuned to Geek Tragedy a while longer, or I've just lost what little viewers I currently have.

Alrighty folks, time for bed!

25 / SEP / 05 - 1435 CST : Oops...

I've been asked if I meant that I was taking requests for signed Webcomic Telethon books until till Sept. 30th, rather than Oct. 30th like I previously posted.

Well the answer is yes, I did in fact mean Sept. 30th would be the cut off date.  Sorry about that folks.

Now I really am going to bed!

-Ed

1420 CST : "Crossing Genres - Pt. V"

Sunday's strips is now up.

I'm still clinging to the thin hope that the site will be fully up and running by the beginning of October.  At the very least though, I know the forum will be up by then.

I'm also hoping to have some ads up on a few sites starting October 1st, so with any luck there will be a few more people out there that will be discovering the Geek Tragedy universe for the first time.  Granted there are advantages to practically knowing each and every person who visits the site by name, and having the ability to fit them all in my living room if need be.  However, I think it's time to open the door a bit wider now.

Well that's all for now folks,  I'm off to bed.

24 / SEP / 05 - 0700 CST : You day people are a strange breed...

As some of you know, or may have guessed from the fact that I often sign off on my post telling you that I'm off to bed at two in the afternoon, I work primarily nights.  And by "primarily", I mean that in the past two and a half years I've worked a total of only four day shifts.

Yesterday was one of those shifts, and while I did in fact survive it (largely due to it being a dark, overcast day which prevented the rays of this planet's yellow sun from making me burst into flames), I kinda hope that the next one isn't for many, many more moons.

'Cause the book is always better than the movie...

Anyway, my reason for posting today isn't to bitch (much), it's to let you know a bit of exciting news. Steve Troop from Blank Label Comics, the folks behind the recent Webcomic Telethon, has designed an 80 page book which compiles a lot of the strips that helped to make the telethon such a success.  All of the proceeds from the sale of these books go to the hurricane relief efforts, and if you've been watching the news you know that they can still use all the help they can get.

Now one of the comics included in the book is the one that I contributed to the telethon (only the printed version of my strip doesn't have a typo in it, like the online one does!).  So aside from helping out a worthy cause when you buy the book, you'll also be taking home a little bit of GT magic!

But that's not all!  If you act now you'll also get...

Now you can order the book directly from Lulu.com, or if you're interested in buying a copy signed by yours truly (or would like a sworn promise that I won't sully your copy with my signature) send me an e-mail and let me know.  If there is enough interest I'll be sure to order a couple extra copies along with the one I plan to buy for myself, sign them, and send it out to you.

Oh, and in case you're wondering, these signed copies won't cost you any more than the $11.95 US that the regular copies would have.  In fact, if anything, you may save a couple bucks on shipping.  So if this sounds like something you'd be interested in, let me know.  Please though, don't send any money with your initial e-mail, just let me know you want a signed copy.  I'll collect the money for the order once I know how many other people (if any) are on board.

All I ask is that if you are interested that you let me know before Oct. 30th at the latest.  I would really like to have my copy as soon as possible, so I don't want to order much later than that.

Well that's all for now folks.  I'm off to sponge a free breakfast from my mother.

22 / SEP / 05 - 1625 CST : "Crossing Genres - Pt. IV"

For reasons I won't get into at this time, Thursdays are the hardest days for me to set aside the time to do the strip.  Yet for some reason I felt the need to once again do a double sized strip today.

I'd love to post more today folks (and had planned too as well), but at this point, I don't think I have the brain capacity to do so.

I guess I'll just have to catch you tomorrow.

21 / SEP / 05 - 1350 CST : Got a little sidetracked...

I honestly had every intention of digging into the "Info & Misc." page the second I got home from work today.  Things didn't exactly go as planned however.

You see, before I got started I figured I'd spend "a few minutes" working on an ad banner for the site's upcoming ad blitz.  Well you'd be amazed how quickly time flies when you're banging your head against a computer monitor.

Anyway, this is what I ended up with after a few hours of frustration.  It's not great, and I'd be lying if I said I was totally happy with it, but it'll do for now I think.

One of the biggest problems I had was getting the colour scheme to look right.  Colours that look great within Photo-Paint can really end up looking pretty shitty once they hit the web-browser.  Of course, I'm far from being an expert with these types of programs, so maybe I'm just screwing something up here.

Oh, and if that's the case, would someone please clue me in to what the hell it is I'm doing wrong!

Anyway, I'll mostly be working on the strip tomorrow, so I doubt I'll have another chance to get to the "Info & Misc." page again till the weekend.

My apologies to anyone who was really chomping at the bit for some miscellaneous information.  To make up for it, allow me to offer these as a peace offering:

The red kangaroo can produce two different types of milk at the same time from adjacent teats to feed both younger and older offspring.

The ancient Egyptians invented bowling as far back as 5200 BC.

And my personal favorite...

The average speed of a man's orgasm is 28 MPH.

I have no idea how that one was measured, but I'm guessing the time trials were really, really fun to take part in.

Alrighty, I'm off to bed folks.

20 / SEP / 05 - 1315 CST : "Crossing Genres - Pt. III"

We gots us a strip people!

I'm kinda hoping to have at least one of the currently "Under Construction" areas of the site up by the end of tomorrow.  Not exactly sure which one yet, but I'm leaning towards the "Info & Misc." page(s).  Anyway, we'll see tomorrow how much I get finished.

The forum seems to be coming along swimmingly so far.  There is however one minor change to my plans for the launch of it though.  I have a wedding to go to on October 1st.  So I'm not exactly sure if I'll have time to kick the forum off that day.  What this means is that the forum will either be up on Sept. 30th, or Oct. 2nd instead.

Don't worry though, I'll be sure to post here once it's up.

Well, it's off to bed for me.

Later,

PS:  Sorry to my mom for the language used in today's strip.

19 / SEP / 05 - 1400 CST :  You may not want to listen to this at work...

Hey guys.

Just dropped by to direct your attention to the new "of the moment" link (that's the box in the upper right hand corner of the screen btw).

I read about this song over at Least I Could Do  and after I was finally able to tracked it down and give it a listen...well let's just say that I found myself compelled to share it with y'all.

What can I say?  If more musicals had songs like this one, it probably wouldn't take the entire cast of Buffy the Vampire Slayer to convince to me to actually watch one.

18 / SEP / 05 - 1715 CST : "Crossing Genres - Pt. II"

Sunday's strip has arrived.

I'll try to keep a bit more in touch in the week ahead.

Enjoy!

14 / SEP / 05 - 1815 CST : I'd rather still be sleeping...

But seeing as how I've woken up and can't get back to sleep yet, I figured I'd drop by here for a bit.

I've been checking out the Webcomic Telethon every chance I get, and I gotta tell ya, I'm pretty amazed with what I've seen.  Not just with how many different styles of webcomics there are out there (this strip is my favorite one so far), but with how well people have responded thus far to this plea to help those who have been affected by Katrina.

If you haven't already, I urge you to please go and check it out.

I should also note that the comic I sent in to the telethon (no, it hasn't been shown yet) has a damn typo in it.  Something that I didn't notice till well after I sent it in!  Yes, I know that is pretty much par for the course around here at Geek Tragedy, but still...

*sigh*

Oh well, at least the version that I've posted here is correct.

Okay folks, gonna try to get a few more winks in before I have to head off to that other job I have.

13 / SEP / 05 - 1045 CST : "Please Give"

Tuesday's strip (the first strip posted on the new site design) is now up.  This is the strip that I did up for the Webcomic Telethon that Blank Label Comics is putting on.

Speaking of which, it seems that the response from webcartoonists was so great, that the telethon will continue on for an extra day.  So now you'll have new webcomics to check out every twenty minutes till Sept. 15th.

I'll be sure to post more on the telethon over the next few days.  In the mean time, please head on over there and check out the wide variety of webcomics from all over the world, that have answered the call for help.

12 / SEP / 05 - 1430 CST : Some people spell relief "W-E-B-C-O-M-I-C"...

Hey folks.

I've got a few things to report today, so let's get right to it shall we.

In wake of a real life tragedy...

First off, you may have noticed a little banner up in the "Link of the moment" box.  A while ago a group of webcomic artists banded together to form an online comic label called Blank Label Comics.  Now it seems that aside from a whole lot of talent, this crew also has more than their fair share of heart.  A fact that they've gone a long way towards proving by putting together a "Webcomic Telethon" to help raise money for the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.

Well, I'd like to take this opportunity ask all you guys out there to please drop by the telethon site as often as you can on Sept 13th &14th.  It would mean a lot to me to know that my loyal fans (and yes, I'm talking to all three of you!) did what they could to help out this worthy cause.

So check it out, donate what you can, if you can, and enjoy a whole bunch of webcomics while you're at it.  From what I hear there will be a constant stream of new ones up throughout both days, so I'm sure you'll have lots to see (and yes, I'll have one up there as well).

I really should invest in a calendar...

According to the last strip I posted before I took time off to get the new site design up, the next new strip was going to be up Tuesday, Sept. 12 / 05.  Well it would appear that I've set myself a bit of an impossible goal there.

You see, as it turns out, there is no such thing as Tuesday, Sept. 12 / 05.  Which means, posting a new strip on that date would be...problematic to say the least.

So, as you might have guessed already, I'm an idiot.

Oh yeah, and also that new strips will begin being posted again on Tuesday, Sept. 13 / 05 (aka: tomorrow).

Your voice will be heard...

Or at the very least your text will be seen once the Geek Tragedy forum goes live on October 1st (which is a Saturday if I'm not mistaken, and as we've all learned, there is a distinct possibility that I am).

I've actually got the forum up and running already, but I have yet to link it to the site.  Mainly because I'd like to work out some of the kinks in it before I go ahead and inflict it on the rest of you.  Don't worry though, I'm certain that there will still be plenty of kinks left over for you guys to enjoy as well.

I'll be sure to post more on the forum later in the month as we get closer to it's launch.

And so the work continues...

Well, the switch over to the new site is pretty much complete now, and the old www.geektragedy.ca site is nothing but a memory at this point.

Sure, I've still got a fair amount of work to do till everything is back up and running at 100%, but I don't think I did too bad of a job if I do say so myself.  Hey, at the very least I feel I screwed up a lot less than I figured I would.

Anyway, I hope you like Geek Tragedy's new look, and I once again beg your patience as I continue to do my best to finish everything up around here.  But on the bright side, the strips will be coming back now, and will continue to be updated every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday.  So at least you'll have that to look forward to while I pretty the place up for y'all.

Well, I'm off to bed.  I'll have more news to report throughout the week, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled.

Later,

10 / SEP / 05 -  1030 CST : The blogs be up...

Alrighty! All the past blog entries are now up.

Some of the links within past posts might be broken due to the move.  I tried my best to fix most of them, and some I left alone on purpose to be fixed later, but there may still be others that I missed that don't work.  If that's the case, sorry folks.

I'm not sure what part of the site I'll be tackling next, but whatever it is it most likely won't be touched till tomorrow.  I would've liked to of done more today, but unfortunately I've got some projects that I really need to start in on before I head to bed.

0545 CST : Blog archives returning one month at a time...

Hey Folks.

Currently working on getting the past blog entries back up. The "Past Blogs" link below is now active, and will take you to the archives.  the link to each month of entries will be made active one at time, as I reformat them for the new site design.

That's all for now.

I've been trying my best to surf through the site and spot mistakes, and so far...well, lets just say that I won't be without stuff to work on this weekend.

Anyway, I've got a bunch of running around to do today before I can really dig into things here, so I'm not sure how much I'll get done on the site today.  But by the end of the weekend I'm hoping things will be working much better.

08 / SEP / 05 - 1445 CST : That link is a lie...

Okay, all the past blog entries have been added to the site now.  If you look below the posts on this page you'll see where it now says "Click here for past Blogs".  Go ahead, give it shot.  I'll wait.

...

...

Doesn't work does it?  That's because I made it so you can't click on it yet.  Yeah, I'm kind of a prick like that.

The thing is, I have to reformat most of the old blog posts as they currently look all crapified, and such after I transferred them over.  I'm hoping that by this weekend I'll have the link back up so that you can read them if you so desire. And lets face it, who wouldn't desire to read the past rambling of a grown man who draws big headed cartoony whatnots, that tell dick jokes?

Yeah, that's what I thought.

Okay, back to work.

-Ed

1300 CST : You know, there was a time not too long ago when I was actually rather long winded...

Now however, not so much.  I figure I either have a lot less free time on my hands, or I've run out of things to bitch about.

Or maybe I've just gotten too lazy to express my pissing and moaning through the written word.

Anyway, the old "With Apologies" section is fully up and running now (save for one write up, which seems to need a little bit of retooling).  Unfortunately I have yet to write a new apology to kick things off, but that should change by next week.

I'm going to try and get the past blog archives in place next.  With any luck they'll be up before I head to bed.  I'll be sure to post when they are.

Hey folks.

Been finishing off a couple of projects so I haven't had much time to fuss with the site in the past couple of days, but I should have a fair amount done by the end of tomorrow.

I'll be sure to give you guys a rundown of some of the changes that have taken place so far, as well as a few that you can expect to see in the (hopefully) near future.  Till then, if you have any comments about what you've seen so far, or you've run into a broken link or something, please give me shout.

Oh yeah, and before I go I should mention that today will most likely be the last full day that the old site design over at www.geektragedy.ca will still be up.  So if you'd like to give the old girl one last visit, now may be your last chance.

06 / SEP / 05 - 0530 CST : The end is nigh...

Well folks, this will most likely be the last post you see on this version of the site.

Yesterday afternoon I published the bare bones of the new site design to www.geektragedy.com and it seems like everything went smoothly.  Now it's pretty much just a matter of stripping the old archived info from this site, and tarting up the new one with the same.

This incarnation of Geek Tragedy should be staying up until Sept. 9th, and after that coming to www.geektragedy.ca  will simply redirect you to the new site located at the .com address.

Now please keep in mind that the new design still needs a lot of work, but if you do have any comments or suggestions about it in the mean time, please feel free to drop me an e-mail at ed@geektragedy.com.  Mail to ed@geektragedy.ca should still get to me, but you may want to make sure you use the new address just in case.

Well folks, take care, and I'll see y'all at the new site.

Later,

-Ed

05 / SEP / 05 - 1650 CST : If you're reading this...

Then I guess I couldn't have screwed up too bad.

The site is still in the rebuilding phase folks, so bear with me here.  You'll notice quite a few links lead to UNDER CONSTRUCTION pages, and I still have a few place holders up on the main page here instead of the desired content.

This should all change as the month goes on, and I start transferring more content from the old site to this one.

I am happy to say that both "The Strip" page, and "The Archives" page are up and running right now.  Well, the part of the archives that deals with the strips is up anyway.  Still have some work left to do till the "Other Work" part is finished.

Well that's all for now.  Keep checking back between here and www.geektragedy.ca for updates throughout the week.

Later,

03 / SEP / 05 - 1535 CST : Change is a comin'...

Hey folks.

Sorry I didnít post this update yesterday like I planned to. I was actually waiting back on some news regarding a problem Iíve been having. It had been my hope that if I did hear back about this particular problem, Iíd finally be able to report some positive news to you guys about whatís happening with the T-shirts.

But, not surprisingly, that just doesnít seem to be in the cards at this point.

Iíll be sure to get into the whole mess with yíall another day, but for now, Iíd really rather not. To make a long story short though, the Geek Tragedy T-shirt situation is fairly screwed at the moment. Basically I have done everything I can think of in order to try and get these things made the way I wanted them to look, with the company I had hoped to work with, and within the more than reasonable time period I was allowing to have them completed.

Unfortunately, some things proved to be entirely out of my control. And while I tried my best to deal with this situation in good faith, Iíve come to believe that I have, for my troubles, constantly been fed what I would at best describe as "misleading information", and at worst, "complete and utter bullshit"! It was this misinformation that would then in turn prompt me to make all those, " The GT-shirts should be done by such-and-such a date!" posts that yíall have grown to love so much over the past few months. Posts which, at least in my opinion anyway, have allowed myself to look, and feel, like a total moron.

Well let me just take this opportunity to apologize to all of you about that, as it was never my desire or intention to blow smoke up your asses, Ďcause I know first hand just how much that sucks. Trust me. For the past few months Iíve had it done to me so often that Iím beginning to feel like a fucking chimney.

One more thing before I move on. Please donít take this to mean that there wonít be any Geek Tragedy T-shirts up for sale in the future, because there most certainly will be. I just donít have the faintest idea when theyíll be up for sale at this point!

Now lets talk about something that is totally within my controlÖ

If you head over to www.geektragedy.com right now, you will seeÖwell, not a whole hellova lot at this point. However, that should be a changiní in the next few days.

In fact, itís my hope that the new site design will, at least partially, be up and running by Monday. And by "partially" I mean that at the bare minimum the Blog Tragedy page, the strip page, and the archives will be in place and in working order.

Of course there is also a chance that none of those things will be up any sooner than Sept 12th, but seeing as how I tend to make a habit of overestimating the speediness in which things will be done when it comes to the site, I figured why should I stop now.

One thing I will say with absolute certainty is that the next new strip will in fact be up come Sept 13th. I donít care if I have to run door to door, and draw the shit directly onto each and every one of your damn computer screens, you be getting new strips again from that day on.

The way I see it, my biggest hurdle when it comes to finishing the site redesign is that I have absolutely no freakiní idea what the hell I am doing for the most part. Of course that hasnít really stopped me before, so why should it worry me now, right?

Okay, any more info will have to wait for now. For once though, itís not because Iím too tired to go on, but instead due to the fact that I am currently dog sitting for my sister, and this pooch doesnít like to play second fiddle to the computer when it comes to my undivided attention. So I feel itís in my best interest to be wrapping it up now. Otherwise I know Iím just begging her to leave me a little "token" of her displeasure somewhere in my house.

Before I go though, let me just say this. Please be patient with me for the next few weeks. Geek Tragedy is going through a bit of a transition period right now (in more ways than one), and while Iíd love to say that everything will go smoothly, I honestly donít think that will always be the case.

So if you happen by one day, and find a big old mess of nothing where the site once was, please donít give Geek Tragedy up for dead. Iíve got a lot more of the GT universe left to show yíall, and I plan to keep on doing it for a while yet, so I promise itíll be back up soon.

Anyway, Iíve got some serious belly running to do now I think.

Oh yeah, and I should probably go check on the dog tooÖ

Later,

-Ed

01 / SEP / 05 - 1430 CST : "Brief Intermission"

Well folks, the last new strip that will ever be posted on the "old" Geek Tragedy site is now up.

I'll be posting everything you may need to know about what's going to be happening between now, and when the new site design is up and running, sometime tomorrow.  So keep an eye out for that.

For now though, it's that time again.  Time for me to whine about how tired I am, and then sign off to go to bed like a total wimp.

Later,
