30 / APR / 06 - 1702 CST : "Pod People - Pt. IV"

Tomorrow I promise that I'll put my typing hat on and add some meat to this blog's long neglected bones.  For now however I'm afraid that I'll just have to post the newest strip and run.

27 / APR / 06 - 1234 CST : "Pod People - Pt. III"

At this point I think there are only going to be one, maybe two more "Pod People" strips after the one I've put up today.  From then on I'm most likely gonna work this storyline in much the same way that I do Noname's quest for healthier living.  Meaning that in the future it'll pop up again every once and a while for a single strip between longer storylines.

Oh, and sorry I haven't been too chatty here as of late.  I've been putting all the free time I can spare into other projects, so whenever the "non-comic" days roll around I haven't exactly had as much time to blather on here as I would like too.

Still, if anything rather earth shattering happens in the near future I'll be sure to let y'all know.

Okay folks, take care!

25 / APR / 06 - 1546 CST : "Pod People - Pt. II"

It's arrived folks.

Now I don't really have much to say as far as the site goes, but I do have something I'd like to ask of you folks.  I'm looking for a copy of Dreamweaver 4.0.  Now so far all I've been able to find via the usual Ebay searches and the like are a lot (a whole hellova lot actually) of books that show how to use the program, but not one single copy of the program itself.

So, if anyone out there happens to have a copy that they'd be willing to sell me, please drop me and e-mail and let me know.  I'm not gonna lie to you here, the cheaper the price the better, but I definitely am willing to pay for it.

Oh, and I'm really only interested in a legal copy of the program.  You know, with an activation key and all that.  I'm not judging people who have acquired it through other methods, but I personally would rather not go a certain route in order to get my hands on it.

Anyway, that's all for now. If I don't catch y'all tomorrow, then I'll see you on Thursday when I post the next strip.

23 / APR / 06 - 1831 CST : "Pod People - Pt. I"

I've discovered that I much prefer drawing to yard work.  My delicate artist hands just aren't cut out for such blister inducing acts manual labor.

Yeah, I'm a wimp, but at least I'm man enough to admit it.

PS: Oops!  I got so caught up in my whining that I forgot to mention that the strip is alive and kicking now.  Now if you'll excuse me I'm off to get a manicure.

1245 CST : I hate having a lawn...

Or more specifically, I hate raking!

Anyway, I just wanted to let y'all know that the strip should be up around 6pm or so.

See ya then,

20 / APR / 06 - 1754 CST : "Viewer Feedback - Pt. VI"

The strip has been up for a few hours now, and as you might have already guessed from the title, I've once again dipped back into the old Geek Tragedy mailbag.

For those of you who are new to the site, it's a little something like to do it about once a month or so when I feel that there is something that needs to be addressed outside of the regular storyline(s).  And in the case of today's strip, I felt the compelled to shine a spotlight on my own ignorance.

So now that I've put this strip out there, allow me to take this opportunity to say thanks to all you folks who took the time to politely point out the error in my thinking as it pertains to podcasts.  Especially the couple of you who were kind enough to go so far as to give me simple step-by-step instructions for how to produce one (not that I have any plans to do so, but it was still nice of you to let me know).

Thank you all.  You have shamed me in the nicest, most courteous way anyone ever could.  Now please stop before I get a complex.

To the fourth wall haters...

I know some people out there feel that one should never, ever, ever break the fourth wall in a comic (much like I did today), but then again some people out there also feel the need to have sex with goats.  Which leaves me to believe that some people are insane freaks who should be totally ignored whenever possible.

So I guess what I'm trying to say here is that if you don't like people breaking the fourth wall then you must like having...sex...with...

Okay, so maybe I don't know exactly what it is that I'm trying to say here.  What I do know though is that I get a real kick out of doing it, and as such will most likely keep doing it in future.  Hopefully you guys enjoy it as well, but if not then all I ask is that you be patient enough to indulge me in these shenanigans just once a month.

You will?  Great!  I knew I could count on you!

Showing me how to strip...

Some of you have no doubt heard me talk about how I'd like to add a couple of extra black and white strips per week to the mix here.  One of my biggest problems with this though has been trying to figure out a way to add said strips without disrupting the general flow of the current updates that I do on the site.

Well it would appear that Angatha Ananth and Hawk over at Applegeeks have come up with a very simple, yet elegant way of doing just that with their own strip.  They in turn attribute their idea to that of another webcomic creator, Jamie Noguchi, who does a strip called Angry Zen Master.

So now it would seem that there are two sites out there that have managed to do exactly what I would one day like to accomplish here.  However, until I can work out the other major problem I've run into (which is a time management issue) it looks like for now I'll just have to live out my B&W fantasy vicariously through them instead.

Well that's about it for me.  I'll try to pop by before Sunday's strip is up, but if not then I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

19 / APR / 06 - 0937 CST : The infinite loop of Frank the pink bunny...

Just wanted to let you guys know that I've fixed the problem with the strip's navigation buttons.  You should no longer be taken back to the Easter strip each time try to check out the previous strips.

That's all for now.   I'm hoping to be back later, so with any luck I catch y'all then.

18 / APR / 06 - 1635 CST : "The Package"

Alrighty!  Today's offering brings back a couple of characters from the long lost past to help set up a little something for the future.

I should also note that I've moved the Easter strip over to the "Alt Strips" section, much like I do with all my holiday ones.

Another ongoing storyline kicks off on Thursday, so hopefully y'all stay tune for that.  I'll try to add a blog entry with a bit more length to it tomorrow as feel I've been kinda slack in that department for the past little while.

For now though, I'm off.

Later,

-Ed

0829 CST : Ahh...to live a life of leisure...

Wow, I tell ya!  Having a couple of extra days off sure does a lot for person.  The holiday (along with extra sleep I got, and a few other positive experiences mixed in) has left me in such good spirits right now it freaky.  I better be careful though.  If I completely shed my usual sleep deprived, dark and brooding mindset I may end up losing my "suffering artist's" edge.

There is no exact ETA yet on today's strip, but I'm shooting for around 2pm.

Well, I better get back at it...right after I make myself something to eat.  'Cause while being a dark and brooding artist is something I can live with, the whole starving artist thing...not so much.

16 / APR / 06 - 2227 CST : "Happy Easter"

Sorry it took so long to get this out to you guys.  I switched ideas for today's strip quite late in the game, so I ended up being a bit behind.  Hope it was worth the wait.

1422 CST : When day becomes night...

Hey folks.

The strip will be up in the evening sometime.

In the mean time while you're waiting here's a look at a little sketch I did up for a friend.  It should be known that shortly after these two met, a rift formed in the space time continuum and the universe imploded in on itself.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend so far!

14 / APR / 06 - 1827 CST : "Tempting Fate - Pt. V"

It always bothers me when I'm not able to accurately reproduce the vision I have in my head onto the screen.  And unfortunately that's exactly what happened here.  Oh well, better luck next time.

Now that today's strip is done I'll be getting back to my regular Sun / Tues / Thurs update schedule instead of this Mon / Wed / Fri stuff.  So be sure to look for the next new strip in a couple days.  I'm not sure if it'll be a sixth installment of of "Tempting Fate" or if I'm just gonna leave it as is, but there will be something up then regardless.

And before I go, I'd just like to wish a Happy Easter weekend to anyone and everyone who observes this particular holiday.  And for those of you who don't...well I'm sure you'll have a wonderful weekend too, only with less chocolate then the other folks.

Later all,

-Ed

1518 CST : I used to be happy if I simply managed to stay within the lines...

The strip should be up in a couple of hours or so.  I'm currently colouring a section of it that, in order to look the way I want it too, requires a level of skill that falls well out of my pay grade.  You'll probably guess what part I'm talking about once you see it.

Anyway, I'm off to see if I can't find some free colouring advice somewhere on the web, and then I'll be back at it.

Well, my e-mail doesn't seem to be working...again! One second it's fine, and then all of a sudden it's screwed again.

Anyway, if you're trying to drop me a note and it keeps getting bounced back to you, don't start cursing or yelling or getting angry.

Trust me, I'm doing enough of all that for everyone right now!

While I'm pimping for friends, I figure I should show you a bit of what keep Lar deSouza from over at Least I Could Do so freakin' busy all the time.

Enjoy!

1359 CST : "Tempting Fate - Pt. IV"

Today's strip is about as on time as a day late strip can be.  Oh, and keep in mind that the next one will be up on Friday instead of Thursday.  After that though, things will be getting back to the Sun / Tues / Thurs schedule.

Two quick things before I head off.  First off, from the feedback I've received so far regarding the Michael Jackson line in the last strip, people seem to like it just fine.  So I guess I was second guessing myself for nothing there.

And last but not least, if you haven't checked out Bardsworth yet, then now is definitely the time to give it a look-see.  Pete has completely redone the site and I personally think he's done a hellova job.  So if you like what you see there, be sure to let him know.  And tell him Ed sent ya, 'cause I'm an attention whore who loves it when people talk about me.

Okay, I'm outta here!

11 / APR / 06 - 1028 CST : Alt RAM, Alt strip, and Alt X-men...

RAM...

I know someone saying that a missed or late updated was due to "computer trouble" is basically the modern day equivalent of "the dog ate my homework", but unfortunately shit does in fact happen.  And yesterday it happened to me.

Currently my computer is using an old stick of RAM I had left over from the last upgrade I did about a year or so ago (*sigh* yes, I bought cheap RAM when I did it).  And while that has allowed the compy to keep on truckin' for the time being, it's doing so at a stupidly slow rate when it comes to photo-shop.  This will be fixed up tomorrow, but for now it's driving me nuts.  So it looks like the remaining strips this week will be updated on Wed and Fri instead of Tues and Thurs.

Strip...

Speaking of the strip, at the last minute when I was finishing up yesterday's offering I decided to change what Noname said in the last word bubble.  At the time I though the Michael Jackson line was pure gold, but then again I was pretty freakin' tired.  And now that I've had about eight hours to read it over, and over, and...well you get the idea, I'm not sure if I made the right choice (or even if it make as much sense as I had thought it did at the time).

Well I plan on keeping the MJ line up there as the final strip (though I do want to finish the shading), but I added an alt version of the strip that has the original line I had wrtten.  You can find it by either clicking the "ALT-STRIPS" navigation button below the strip, or by clicking on the strip itself.  Or I guess you could just click here.

Maybe if people have strong feelings towards one or the other, I'll switch which on is the main strip, and which one is the alt.  However, for now I'll just leave them as is.

The X-men...

In order to try and make up for pushing back the newest strip till WED, allow me to offer this up as a peace offering: (you can click it for a bigger view)

What you're looking at is what will soon become the newest GT wallpaper.  The inks I've done here are by hand, but I'm going to be augmenting them digitally.  I'd try doing it the old fashion way, but I just don't feel comfortable enough in my abilities to not screw it up.

After that I plan to spend a lot of time getting the colours just right.  Hopefully in the end it'll turn out the way I currently envision it, but we'll see.

Well, I think that's it for me.  I'm gonna try and catch up on some of the sleep I lost yesterday.

10 / APR / 06 - 1915 CST : "Tempting Fate - Pt. III"

Okay, the strip is up but it's still not totally polished up shading wise.  However until I have a chance to head out and replace some seemingly dead RAM, using Photo-Shop is less than fun at the moment. Sorry!

I'd love to stick around and apologize more, but holy hell do I need some sleep.

Later,

1715 CST : For the love of...

For those of you who have been waiting for the strip, sorry for the extended delay.  It'll be up in a couple hours.

What I had left to do on it should have only taken about an hour and a half at the most, but due to some technical difficulties I've just now been able to start in on it.  I would've posted about this earlier, but that wasn't really an option either.

All in all, given the current time and the amount of sleep it looks like I'll end up having I think it's going to be a very rough night at work tonight.

Okay, enough bitching.  Back in a couple hours with the strip.

09 / APR / 06 - 1553 CST : Don't say I didn't warn you...

Hey folks.

I mentioned a few days ago that today's strip may be pushed back till tomorrow, and it looks like that's exactly what's gonna happen.  Still, there is a very slim chance that I'll be able to get it done before midnight, but not enough of one that I'm willing to get anyone's hopes up.

Oh, and on a personal note I'd just like to thank everyone who came over last for not vomiting in my house.

07 / APR / 06 - 1447 CST : Geek Tragedy inside and out...

Hey folks.

Just a quick note before I head to bed.  If you have a moment you may want to see what Lar (a satisfied Geek Tragedy T-shirt customer and artist extraordinaire from Least I Could Do ) has to say about his newest anti-nudity device on the GT forum.

Oh, I'll show you how dangerous a can of pop can be...

And one more thing.  I drink a lot of diet pop.  I mean A LOT of diet pop.  And due to that fact I don't think a week goes by that someone doesn't tell me about how harmful aspartame is, and that it causes cancer.

Well as of right now, the next person to tell me that gets a can of pop upside the head!

Okay, I'm off to drink a diet 7-Up and then go to bed.

06 / APR / 06 - 1653 CST : "Tempting Fate : Pt. II"

Okay, the B&W version of the strip is now up.

Afraid that's all I've got for now folks.  I'll try to make up for lost time tomorrow, but as I mentioned on Wednesday, the next few days will be fairly busy for me.  Still, keep your fingers crossed!

1456 CST : What'll be black and white and late all over...

Well if you guessed today's strip...BINGO!

Sorry, I spent so long dicking around with the last panel that I've really run myself short on time.  I'm hoping that once I get the B&W version of the strip up that I'll still have enough steam left to finish off the colours for it before I head to bed, but I can't be sure so I don't want to get your hopes up.

Anyway, look for it to be post in an hour or two.

04 / APR / 06 - 1807 CST : "Tempting Fate - Pt. I"

And so with today's strip we get back to an ongoing story type thing.

In other news, I've already received a couple of kind offers for some guest work for the week off I'll be taking in the near future (thanks guys!), so it looks like you folks definitely won't be left without comicy goodness during that time.  I'm gonna keep the guest artist under wraps for now though, as I'd rather it be kind of a surprise.

Oh, and I'm still open to accepting more help, so if anyone has the time to spare, please let me know.

Well I am pretty much fried at this point, so I best be getting to bed.

03 / APR / 06 - 1437 CST : Scheduled slacking...

Hey folks.

Just wanted to mention a couple of things before I head to bed.

First off, while I'm gonna try to get my ass in gear and move a bit ahead of the game before Sunday's strip, there is a chance it won't be up till Monday.  I've got a bunch of stuff to do this weekend.  On top of that my house may be used as a rest stop for the tired and drunken this Saturday, so I'm pretty sure I'll be losing some of my "comic time" for those couple of days.  Sure I could still try and work on the strip while a bunch of people are strewn around my place, but seeing as how I only work on the strip while in the nude I'd rather not risk making anyone feel uncomfortable.

I'm kidding about that last part of course.  I honestly don't care about making people uncomfortable.

I'm kinda...sorta taking a week off...but I'm doing it for you...

On either the last week of April, or the first week of May I'll be taking a week off from GT so I can catch up on various projects.  Not the least of which is getting a bit farther ahead with the site's much needed revamp.  Now if you've grown quite fond of the current site layout, don't worry.  As I've mentioned a few weeks ago I don't plan on making things look too much different.  Instead I'm just trying my best to improve the site's functionality of the site, fix some coding errors, and bring all of it's content up to date.  Overall this should make for a much richer and orgasmilicious experience for anyone who visits.

So you see, I really am doing this for you!

Much like I'm trying to do this weekend, I'll do my best to get far enough ahead by then so that there will still be new strips up during my week off.  But seeing as how that never really seems to work out too well for me I may end up having to put up some alternate content instead.  What that alternate content might be...I don't know.  However if anyone out there would...one sec...let me switch to bold here...and then maybe add a dash of red...yeah, that's the stuff...

If anyone out there would like to maybe do a guest strip or maybe some fan art or something please let me know.

Now I hate asking for that, as I know most of you have your own lives to live, but I figured I'd throw it out there just in case.

In lieu of guest work, I will at the very least be posting some sketches.  That way y'all will have some sort of eye candy to keep ya coming back.

Anyway, there you go.  Sure, I may fall into the webcomic cliché of missing updates, but at least I usually give you guys plenty of warning before I do!

Okay, I go sleep now,

-Zzzzzzzzz

02 / APR / 06 - 1719 CST : "Das Stomach"

Okay, so technically this strip isn't exactly a "stand alone" joke as it picks up where two other ones left off, but that's splitting hairs really.

I've actually had today's offering kicking around in my head for a while now.  In fact I had already done most of the pencils for it a week or so ago, but never followed through with it.  Mostly because I wasn't sure how folks would react to what is essentially "potty humor".  However as of late I've been trying hard not to dwell on what others may think about the strip.

Now by "others" I don't mean you folks who come by the site each week for a few seconds of enjoyment, as your opinion really does matter to me.  Hell, you all are one of the main reasons I keep doing the comic!  What I'm referring to is the general mumbling and grumbling that goes on around the webcomic community.  And while I'd like to say I don't even bother paying attention to what some people are touting as the latest "disturbing trend" is that's "plaguing" webcomics, I'm sad to say that I do.

I'll even admit that in the past I've gone so far as to alter certain parts of my comics before I ever posted them in an effort to either escape the confines of these" trends", or to try and avoid comparisons to other people's strips (in other words I didn't want people to say that I was ripping off another comic).  I'm certainly not proud of neutering my work this way, but I've learned from my mistakes and I have no intention of going down that road ever again. After all, when you start to alter your own creation to try and pander what others think it should or shouldn't be, then it pretty much stops being your creation, doesn't it?

Plus given the sheer volume of work out there on the web I've come to realize that having comparisons drawn from one person's comic to your own are pretty much unavoidable at this point anyway. So why drive yourself crazy stressing over the fact that site "X" posted a comic that has his/her main character eating a banana  a couple days before you were going to do the exact same thing.

For example, just prior to when I introduced Wren into the GT universe my friend Pete over at Bardsworth had started a storyline involving his main character's sister.  As it turned out my own storyline ended up having some distinct similarities to his.  Now he could've very easily gotten bent out of shape because of it and called foul, but he didn't.  Instead he just took it for what it was, a coincidence, and then we both moved on from there.  If anything we each kinda got a kick out of the whole thing.

However, if I ever decide to suddenly introduce a demon named Francois into the strip and then enroll Noname into a University for bards and wizards, I fully expect Pete to be pissed about it and come knocking on my door.

Well I guess that's about all I've got to say.

Oh wait...one more thing before I go.  If you have 15 bucks and a need to promote your site, buy yourself a sponsor spot over at Punks and Nerds.  I can't even begin to tell you how much value you'll be getting for your money there.  Seriously, the traffic you get is just amazing (especially once Josh give you the shout out in his blog).  And while my current spot has just about run it's course, I will definitely be getting another one again in the future!

Okay, that's it for me.

Later,

-Ed

0557 CST : One more one shot...

Hey folks.

Today's strip (which is still a while away from being finished) will be yet another "stand alone" style joke.  After that I'll be getting back to more plot based ones for the next couple of weeks or so.  It's kind of a shame though. I mean sure, I do prefer working within GT's ongoing storyline, but there is a lot to be said for the freedom that I find goes along with coming up with a single joke, and then throwing it out there immediately without having to try and force feed it into whatever the current story arch is.

Now I'm not saying "gag a day" type strips are easier than plot driven one, or vise-versa, I just mean that I think they're a hellova lotta fun to do.

Oh and I also haven't completely abandoned the idea of switching over to a five strips a week format, but I still need more time to figure out how I'm gonna work it.  Time wise the only way I can see it happening is if two or three of the strips are done in black and white, and after working in colour for this long I'm having a bit of trouble adapting to anything else.  So for now it looks like you'll only be getting three shots of GT a week.  But who knows what the future may hold...

Things have gotten kinda loopy...

Those of you who are member of my FilmLoop know that I haven't updated it with new strips in a while.  This is due to the fact that now that the program has gone gold, it doesn't really work with my computer's OS.  In fact, I was told that it never should've worked with it to begin with, so I can't exactly blame anyone but myself here.

If I can't get it going again sometime soon I'll most likely be deleting the loop and then starting a new one on a friends computer.  So if you're a member, and you notice the loop has suddenly disappeared, don't worry!  It'll be up again soon.

Well, I best be getting back to today's strip.

Later,

-Ed
