31 / AUG / 06 - 2359 CST : In the shade...

The shading is now done.  Enjoy.

1809 CST : (shadeless) "Con Pros - Pt. VIII"

Hey all.

The strip isn't quite finished, but I've got to run out to meet someone in the next few minutes, so I went ahead and posted it in a non-shaded form for now.  I'll be sure to finish off the shading once I get home later on tonight.

-Ed

1510 CST : It really is comething...erm...coming...

It's taking a while longer than I expected, and I'll be breaking for dinner soon, but it will still be up today.

As usual I'll try to keep you updated.

0744 CST : The comic cometh...

Hey folks.

I didn't have a chance to even touch a pencil yesterday, but I'm hard at work on it now.  I'm shooting for it to be up in the early afternoon, but I'll let you know.

29 / AUG / 06 - 2047 CST : And now the news...

Howdy folks.

You might have noticed this earlier today, but in case you haven't I wanted to let you know that the colours for yesterday's strip are done.  Also, after the umpteenth time rewording it, I think I've finally managed to reach a point where I'm pleased with the text in the last two panels.

I'd also like to mention that tomorrow's strip will be late.  Still not sure if it'll be done by the late night, or not till Thursday morning, but I am sure it won't be up tomorrow afternoon like I'd prefer it to be.  The reason being is I'm stuck working over the weekend this week, so unfortunately I'll be using most of tomorrow to try and get all the running around done that I usually do on Saturday rather than working on the strip.

That however is most certainly not the GT related news I promised to share with you guys today.  This is...

The Manitoba Comic Con

Through sheer dumb luck I managed to be added to the list of guests at this years Manitoba Comic Con which takes place on the 4th and 5th of November.  I'm pretty damn excited about this as it'll be the first time I've ever had the chance to attend a con in a non-fan type capacity.

Now if you head over to the site and check out the guest list, you'll notice two things:

1) There are a hellova lotta professional colourists working out of my home town.

and 2) I am easily gonna be the least qualified person sitting behind those guest tables.

Yeah, that may seem like false modesty, but it's not.  I envision a conversation at the con going something like this...

George Freeman : I have to say I really enjoyed helping to bring to life Captain Canuck and shaping it into a sort of Canadian icon, but working with Alan Moore on Batman was great too.

Laurie Smith : Yeah, working on Batman was a lot of fun for me as well, but getting nominated for an Eisner award was really cool.

Lovern Kindzierski : Wow, what a coincidence, I've been nominated for Eisner awards too!  And Harvey awards!  So uh...Ed was it?  What have you done?

Me : Well I've...um...been writing dick jokes and putting them up on the web for almost two years now and...

George Freeman : Yeah that great. Can you go fetch us some coffee?

Me : Yes sir.

Okay so I seriously doubt that's what's going to happen, but still.

Anyway, I have to go write up my bio for the guest list and try to make myself sound somewhat impressive, but before I do I need to thank Violet and Mike for being kind enough to give one of the guest spots to me.

Also, thanks to Maureen Babb for thinking of me and giving me a heads up about the con.

Okay folks, that's all for today.

Later,

-Ed

0914 CST : Less is more…

I'll be back later on today to bring both GT news to the blog and colour to yesterday's strip, but for now I needed to mention a couple of edits I made to the last bits of text in the B&W version. The first correction comes in the form of a small addition to Noname's attempt to plea non-insanity. In fact, now that I think about it, it's not really a correction all. More of a clarification really.

The second was most definitely a correction however, and a major one at that. The line in the last word bubble was supposed to read "and it still wouldn't make you seem any more insane," rather then "any less insane." You see what an impact a wrong word or two can have? It's often the difference between me making perfect sense and nailing a joke, or me making no sense at all and looking like an ass.

This by the way is why I don't do too well on first dates. I always seem to get tongue tied and use the wrong words when I mean something completely different. You know what I'm talking about? Like when you go to say "I had a wonderful evening", but your words get all messed up and you end up saying something like "SCREEEEAACKALBADAMA! GOD PLEASE MAKE THE VOICES STOP!"

Talk about embarrassing.

Anyway, I'm off to colour.

Later,

28 / AUG / 06 - 1837 CST : "Con Pros - Pt. VII (B&W)"

Well I was going to push on through and do the colours for today's strip, but I kind wanted to get a bit more than three hours sleep before work tonight, so I changed my mind.  I'll do them up tomorrow though.

Also, I'll have a bit of an announcement to make tomorrow about something that'll be going on in the GT universe in couple of months, so you may want to come back tomorrow to check that out as well.

Okay, I'm outta here.

Later,

-Ed

1408 CST : Dinner break...

Hey folks.

It's been slow going on the strip today, but it is coming along.  Depending on how much longer it takes me I may do the 'post a B&W version today, finish the colours tomorrow' type of thing that I've done in the past.  I'll let you know a bit later.

Well, I'm off to grab some food and then head back to work.

25 / AUG / 06 - 1841 CST : I'm awake...

And I'm currently working on the strip.  But due to some plumbing issues I had earlier (btw the, whoever invented the "One Second Plumber" is a freaking genius and deserves a Nobel prize!), I ended up getting a much later start on it than I figured, so I'm still not exactly sure when it'll be done.  Late tonight at the earliest.  Early tomorrow morning at the latest.

Wish I could give y'all a better idea than that, but it seems every time I try to predict a time for the strip, I'm always off by a mile.

Anyway, back to work.

Later,

-Ed

1043 CST : Second wind or out of gas...

Hey guys.

Well unless I suddenly find some hidden reserve of energy I didn't know I had, today's strip will most likely not be up till later on tonight.  I'll post more when I have a more definite time frame.

24 / AUG / 06 - 2225 CST : Pretty colours...

Okay, the coloured version of the last strip is now up.

And now I'm off to get ready for work.

1927 CST : They're coming...

Just dropping by to let you guys know that unlike previous B&W strips, yesterday's will in fact be coloured soon.

And to prove it, here's a pic to show where I'm at right now...

Okay, back at it.

23 / AUG / 06 - 1809 CST : "Con Pros - Pt. V"

Here it is folks.  I REALLY want to get this one coloured soon though, as I know damn well it'll look a thousand times better when it is.

For now though, I'm spent.

1539 CST : A psychic update from Grey...

Sorry I didn't post an update about the strip sooner.  I got kinda caught up with another project and lost track of time.  See ya in a few with the strip.

21 / AUG / 06 - 1521 CST : "Con Pro's - Pt. IV"

Well it was a long time coming, but the newest strip is finally here.

I want you guys to know that I really appreciate the comments some of you have made letting me know that the odd late update, and even odder missed updates don't bother you so much because I keep y'all updated as to the when and the why.  Still, as you may been able to tell from postings I've made in the past, it does bother me a great deal.  I really want the consistency of the strip to be something you folks can count on, as I feel it adds a great deal of professionalism to the site.

However, until I win the lotto, start getting paid for doing the site, or have my personal and work like restored to a lesser state of chaos, I'm afraid I can't promise that late strips won't continue in the future.

But enough pessimism for one day.  Let's talk about something positive before I head to bed, shall we?

...

...

Okay, I got nothing.  I'm off to sleep.

Later,

-Ed

0903 CST : And we're back...

I just wanted to reassure all of you that things are getting back to normal today, and there there will be a new strip up this afternoon.  Sorry for the impromptu break I took there on Friday, but it couldn't be avoided.

Okay, getting back to work now.

18 / AUG / 06 - 1909 CST : I'll stick with drawing...

Hey folks.

After spending the entire day doing pluming work I've come to the conclusion that draw comics is a lot more fun.  Seriously, I've gained so much respect for plumbers in the past 8 hours it's ridiculous.

Unfortunately as I suspected yesterday I wasn't able to get any work done on today's strip.  I'm still hoping to have something for you guys to see tomorrow, but I've still got more work to do at my moms, so nothings definite at this point. I'll try to make it up to y'all by Monday though.

Later,

17 / AUG / 06 - 1635 CST : Tomorrow's strip...

Hey folks.

Lately I've been helping my mother as much as I can with various work that needs to be done around her house.  Now I have the next couple of day's off from work, and I really need to take advantage of that time to give her a hand, because unfortunately after that I'll be stuck at work for six days straight.

So what I'm trying to say here is, tomorrows strip will be at best late, and at worst I'll have to skip it.  I'll try everything in my power to get it done before Monday, but if I feel I'm falling short I'll most likely be posting a bit of filler artwork to hold y'all over till the beginning of next week.

Sorry about this guys, but like I've said before, the strip is really important to me, but family always comes first.

I'll drop by with more info when I know what's happening.

Later,

-Ed

0558 CST : Beyond GT...

I often feel that I don't write enough about other webcomics here on the site (hell, I rarely seem to find the time to write about my own webcomic!), but luckily I've got a few spare moments now so...

Yirmumah...

Aside from recently getting the opportunity to have one of his comic creations put into print, D.J. Coffman has just wrapped up his "Origins" storyline over at Yirmumah.net.  It's kind of a departure from the type of strips he usually does, and while I've generally enjoyed his work thus far, I absolutely loved this particular tale!

So if you haven't had a chance to already, do yourself a favor and check it out

Housd...

Being a fan of all things Bruce Campbell I feel it's my duty to point out that Ali Graham of Housd fame has found a way as of late to give the cinematic god a cameo appearance in his strip.  Once again proving that adding a heroic undead slayer with a chainsaw for a hand to a webcomic makes it that much cooler.

Bardsworth...

Yesterday I finally got my hands on the Bardsworth T-shirt I ordered, and it looks great (I don't have a digital camera though, so there's no pic of me wearing it yet I'm afraid)!  I have to admit that I wasn't too sure about what the quality of Cafepress T-shirts would be like, but now that I've seen one with my own eyes I am quite impressed.  In fact it's made me reconsider taking the link to my own Cafepress store off the site.

Anyway, if you have a chance, check out Pete's site, and then head to his store and buy a shirt!

Least I Could Do...

I'm a little late on this one, but I'd like to congratulate Lar deSouza on his first anniversary as being the artistic force behind LICD.  Y'all know by now what I think of Lar and his work, so I won't get into that again right now.  What I will say though is that for someone to produce a strip of that quality, six days a week for a full year, on top all his other artistic exploits, as well as being able to jet off to various cons and fan meets, plus still find time for his loving family, proves what I've long suspected...

Lar is not one man at all, but is in fact a series of clones or "cLarns" as they are known in both the artistic and scientific communities (BTW, you can always tell the clones from "Lar Prime" by looking behind his left ear for a barcode).

Okay, that's all for now folks.

16 / AUG / 06 - 1537 CST : "Con Pros - Pt. III"

Today's strip is one of the few ones I've done that I feel works rather well in black and white.  Keep in mind though that I don't really intend to leave it that way, but at least I feel a lot more comfortable posting it as is while I get some sleep that I usually do with my uncoloured strips.

And that being said, I'm off to bed.

Later,

-Ed

PS:  Sorry I haven't been writing much lately, I've just been insanely busy.  I'll try to put more up here next time I have some spare time.

14 / AUG / 06 - 1422 CST : "Con Pros - Pt. II"

Howdy folks.

Well today has been kind of a rare day in that not only was I able to get a ton of work done, but I actually managed to do so quick enough that I might end up getting a full night's day's sleep as well.  And yes, part of the work I'm talking about was finishing off the newest strip.

On top of that though I was finally about to make some headway on a bit of fan art I've been wanting to sink my teeth into.  I'm kinda hoping to get four separate pieces done for four different artists who's work I've enjoyed for quite some time now, but progress has been slow.

Anyway, if you'd like to take a peek at the first and furthest along piece, you can head on over to my livejournal in about half and hour from now and check it out.  And please, if you have any feedback on it, feel free to drop me a comment.  Even if it's criticism, that's fine with me.  Y'know, just so long as it's constructive criticism, and not simply a big "YOUR WORK SUCKS!"

'Cause if I wanted to hear that I'd just call up my second year drawing prof (providing he was sober enough answer the phone...after all, it's already well past noon).

Well that all for today folks.  I'll see ya either tomorrow or Wednesday at the latest.

11 / AUG / 06 - 1851 CST : "Viewer Feedback - Pt. VII"

Allow me to take this moment to apologize to all the Jean-Luc's of the world (well, almost all of them).  And with that, here is the newest strip.

I'll try to pop back later to write a bit more about it, but for now I have to run.

Later,

-Ed

1257 CST : Back to the mailbag...

Hey folks.

Something made me decide to switch gears with today's strip at the last minute.  So instead of the "Con Pros - Pt. II", I'll be giving you another installment of "Viewer Feedback".  It's been just over three months since I've dipped into that particular well for material, so I think it's about time.  Besides, when inspiration strikes sometimes you just have to run with it!

Anyway, it seems I've got some writing to do, so I better get back to it.  Look for the strip to up around 7pm or so.  See ya then!

09 / AUG / 06 - 1738 CST : "Con Pros - Pt. I"

We're starting a new storyline today that I hope y'all enjoy.  I had originally planned to do these strips after I got back from Connecticon or Wizard World Chicago, but seeing as how I wasn't able to make it out to either one of those this year I figured I might as well just go ahead and do it now.

Also I wanted to mention that yesterday I had a problem connecting to the site's server and uploading the strip.  If that should happen again I will try to do exactly that I did yesterday, and post the strip on both the Geek Tragedy Livejournal, and on my Wordpress site.  So if you can't find the strip here one day, you may want to check either of those two spots out.

Well that's all for now folks.

08 / AUG / 06 -  1208 CST : "Friendly Deception - Pt. VIII"

Okay, in the end I figured the background could use complete overhaul as well...which changed the lighting of the strip...and that in turn required me to change the shading...so I actually redid a little bit more than just one panel.

And if that wasn't causing enough of a delay, it seems that the site keeps going down as well, so I had a bit of trouble uploading everything to the server.  All in all, not the smoothest update I've ever done.

Anyway, I've got a bunch more work to do, so I've gotta run.

Later,

-Ed

0837 CST : Not long now...

Hey folks.

It shouldn't be too much longer for the strip.

Sorry again for the delay.  It certainly wasn't my intention to fall asleep before it was done, but it seemed my body had a different plan.  I'm currently redoing one of the panels from scratch (which oddly enough looked a lot better to me last night when I was too tired to see straight), and after that I'll be putting it up.

Thanks for your patience!

-Ed

0633 CST : Fell asleep...

As soon as I fully wake up I'll finish off the strip and post it.  Sorry for the delay.

07 / AUG / 06 - 1503 CST : One more, then back to the same old, same old...

Hey folks.

Just dropping by to let you know that the last part of "Friendly Deception" should be up around midnight (or in the wee hours of the morning at the very latest).  This'll most likely be the last strip for a while that'll be posted at night instead of the afternoon as I don't have any more vacation time planned for quite some time.  Which means I'll back to a midnight schedule and won't have the luxury or doing my strips in the evening any more.

Anyway, see you guys later!

05 / AUG / 06 - 1855 CST : "Friendly Deception - Pt. VII"

Sorry it's a day late, but the newest strip is now up.  I'd like to write more, but I've still got a ton of other work to get to.  Hopefully I'll be able to drop by tomorrow though.

04 / AUG / 06 - 2217 CST : So many projects, so little time...

Sorry folks!

I was trying to get caught up on a couple of other art projects tonight that have fast approaching deadlines, thinking that I'd still have enough time left to finish off the strip afterwards, but I fell short.  I don't have too much work left on it though, so it won't be up any later than tomorrow.

Once again, sorry for the wait.

Later,

1327 CST : Stripping the night away (again)...

Wanted to keep y'all updated and let you know that much like Wednesday's, today's strip won't be up till later tonight.

That's all for now.

03 / AUG / 06 - 0941 CST : I got some splaining to do...

Howdy folks.

I figured I should drop by to reassure some of you that there are currently no unposted strips involving Noname rescuing a couple of orphans and teaching them the true meaning of Christmas during the Christmas Day of the Dead story line.  Granted I did have a lot more planned as far as what was going to happen to him in the mall then what ended up making it into the strip, but I never got around to actually drawing any of it.  So no, I'm not holding out on you.

Of course it's always been my hope that one day I'd be able to redo that particular story and publish a full uncut comic book version, but until I find some way to free up a lot more time in my life I don't think that'll happen anytime soon.  Hell, it's already hard enough for me to get the strips up on time what with work and the few smaller side projects I've got going now.  I couldn't even imagine how off schedule I'd be if I were to try to produce a full comic book at this point.

Oh, and before I take off I was asked if I could post a pic of the last strip without the text, so here you go.  You can just click on it to go to a larger version.

Well that's all for now folks.

Later,

-Ed

0059 CST : "Friendly Deception - Pt. VI"

The new strip is up.

I'd write more, but I can't even see straight at this point.  Off to bed now.

02 / AUG / 06 - 2156 CST : Blame it on the rain...

Hey folks,

We're in the middle of a pretty big thunderstorm right now in my neck of the wood, and the power has gone off and on twice so far.  So if the comic isn't up until the wee hours of the night tonight, it's most likely because I lost power at some point and I'm waiting for it to come back on.

However if the power doesn't go out again on me I should have the strip up before midnight for sure.

Later,

-Ed

1706 CST : Late night strip session...

Sorry for not dropping by earlier to tell y'all this, but today's comic won't be up till late this evening.  I had a bunch of running around to do today so I never had a chance to start in on it till now.

Anyway, just wanted to give you a heads up.

01 / AUG / 06 - 2128 CST : A Noname away...

Hey folks.

Just a quick post to let you know that the colours are pretty much done on yesterday's strip.  I still have Noname left to finish up, but I'm about to take a nap now so I went ahead and posted what I've done so far.

Before I go though I wanted to say two things.  First off I think I've finally reached a point where I'm happy with Blue Bird's look.  Granted I still think that character is a bitch to draw and colour, but at least I'm pleased with what I get for my effort.

And secondly, since it's creation I've basically been cut and pasting the exact same info you'd find here onto my GT livejournal.  Well as of today I plan to stop that particular practice.  What I'm going to try and do instead is put only new stuff up there.  I'm not sure exactly what kinda "stuff" that will be exactly, but I do know that most if not all of it will not be seen here on the site.

So there you go! And now, here I go!

Later,

-Ed
