31 / DEC / 06 - 1544 CST : Spoiler Alert...

One more thing folks.  The colours for the rest of the strip are still not done, and so if you can't wait till tomorrow and are just dying to get a GT fix, I've grabbed three of the next six barebones, inked panels which you can see HERE.

I'd offer up all the unseen B&W panels for viewing at this point, but the second and fifth ones won't have the same affect until I've done a bit of photoshoppery with them.  Once I've put up the coloured versions I might just show you a side by side comparison so that you can see what I mean.

As well, if you'd like to hear my thoughts on (and to a lesser extent, explanation for) the recent whacked out update schedule that's been going on here for the past few weeks, please check out what I wrote earlier today in the forum.

1351 CST : I'm not old, I'm just fragile and out of shape...

Geek Tragedy is not what you'd call an autobiographical strip.  For the most part everything you see within the comics are far from what goes on in my real life.  I own no ferret, I have no unhealthy attraction to Hello Kitty gear, and I very seldom get attacked by zombies.

From time to time though I do use my little bit of digital nonsense to comment on certain things I personally feel quite strongly about.  For example, much like Noname, I utterly detest snow and have no problem expressing this deep seeded hated here whenever I can.  Three such examples of my anti-snow declarations can be found, HERE, HERE, and HERE.

Now I know some of you out there might be asking yourselves "But why Ed? Why do you hate snow so?"  Well let me show you.

When I went to bed yesterday, the streets were clear and I had maybe a half a foot of snow piled up on my boulevard that I needed to step over in order to get to my car.  Fast forward about 16 hours or so and this is what I'm currently dealing with...

Now if all I had to do was shovel this little path from my house to my sidewalk I wouldn't be sitting here bitching to you right now.  However, In order to park my car this morning when I (finally) managed to get home from work I was required to do a bit more shoveling than that...

Yes, I shoveled pretty much the entire section of street that sits in front of my house just so I could do a three point turn, and park.  So tonight when I go to leave for work I should at the very least manage to move a minimum of 20 feet before I need to worry about getting stuck.

Oh, and here's the real sad thing.  After doing all this shoveling, I felt perfectly fine...until I was finishing up this small section of sidewalk:

At which point I heard a what sounded like the pain filled whimpering of a wounded animal.  It wasn't until a few seconds later that I realized the wounded animal in question (for which I can only guess the Latin name would be "giganticus-pussyus") was me.

So here I am.  A thirty year old man, sitting in front of my computer (painfully I might add), in a bathrobe, cup of tea beside me, and a hot water bottle pressed up against my back.  Now if only I could find some reading glasses and a walking cane I could go ahead and smear myself with Bengay so that I might complete my transformation and become one with the senior citizen collective.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go change my adult diaper.

The wearing of which by the way has nothing at all to do with this "old before my time" gag.  I just really don't like having to move away from the computer until I'm done working.

29 / DEC / 06 - 2323 CST : Weekend catch-up...

I actually had an update planned for today, but last night was the first night back to work for me and after spending just shy of a week walking in the daylight, that first shift always plays havoc with my body clock.  Which is to say after getting only 2 hours sleep yesterday before work, I ended up sleeping the whole day away today.

Yeah, I'm lazy like that.

Anyway I'll have more up this weekend.  I'll try for the next update to be tomorrow, but sadly I have a funeral to go to so there may be nothing new till Sunday.  However, if that's the case than I'm pretty sure I'll have the entire rest of the page done by then.

Oh, and there is a discussion going on on the forum right now that I think you should all check out as it has to do with way the comic has been updating this month, and how you'd like to see it update in the future.  So if you have an opinion on the matter, by all means check it out!

26 / DEC / 06 - The page that wouldn't end...

Hey folks.

Well I'm happy to say that my holiday weekend was filled with food, family, and fun.  Unfortunately it sure as hell wasn't what you'd call productive.

I honestly thought that I'd have more than enough time to get a lot of work done on the strip and a few other projects, but between all the dinners, running around, last minute shopping, and visiting with friends and family the last few days left me very little down time.

However, I still have a few days off from work, and I've made it my mission to do nothing else than lock myself in my office and work, work, work.  Oh, and speaking of my office, thanks to my friend Corey planting the idea in my head a few weeks ago, and my sister giving me a gift certificate as part of my Christmas gift I picked up this little item earlier today.

I've been needing a new drafting table for quite a while, so now that I finally have one I plan to shackle myself to it until I manage to catch up on some of the work I need to finish.

Anyway, I hope y'all had a wonderful holiday weekend, and that the spirit of the season is still strong enough within you that you find it in your hearts to forgive me for not having more to show you lately.

Later,

-Ed

PS: I've done nothing but jinx myself by saying stuff like "Next update will up tomorrow", so I'm not do it again today.  That being said, it might be worth your time to check out the site tomorrow.  I can't say why exactly, it's just a feeling I have.

25 / DEC / 06 - The Grinch who stole jpg files...

Hey folks!

First off I wanted to apologize for having a broken file / comic up on the main page here over the past 24+ hours, and to thank those of you who let me know about it.  But more importantly I wanted to wish y'all a...

Merry Christmas

and a Happy Hanukkah!

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to spend the day with my family!

23 / DEC / 06 - Just about all wrapped up...

Hey folks.

I was able to get three more panels done today, and will most likely have the rest of the page finished up Christmas eve.  However, I do have a family Christmas dinner to go to tomorrow, so if I don't get the work done before I have to leave, I'll get it done later in the evening when I get home.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have a whole lotta wrapping to do!

22 / DEC / 06 - 1042 CST : Or your money back...

Alrighty!  Here's where we stand on today's update.  At this point I can guarantee that 1 / 3 of the strip (which sounds more impressive than the first two panels, no?) will be finished and up for you folks to see later on today.

Now unfortunately that would mean I'd have to end off at a point where there's no joke, which I don't mind telling you I'm not exactly happy about.  So I will try my best to get just over the halfway mark before I quit for the day.  However, I am heading off to a Christmas party tonight to which I have locked myself into cooking up a bit of food for, so I'm not sure how long I'll be able to sit in front of the computer.

So, if I do only get a third of the strip done today, I promise I'll have most (if not all) of it finished up tomorrow.  Of course I'm thinking a lot of you out there will have far more important things to do this holiday weekend other than check out the site, but having it finished will give me peace of mind at least.  And besides, it'll still be here waiting for you guys to read when you're all done unwrapping your presents, stuffing yourselves with Turkey, and / or spinning the dreidel.

Okay ladies and gentlemen, I'm off to ink, colour and eventually cook.

21 / DEC / 06 - 1211 CST : One more day...

Hey folks.

Just dropping by to let you know that you can expect the next update to be posted tomorrow afternoon or so.  As well, once Friday is all said and done, I'll finally be getting some time off work.  Which means I should hopefully start gaining a bit of ground with the strips again soon.

I'm also hoping that this time off will give me kind of a kick in the ass when it comes to writing a bit more here than a simple "hi" and "bye".  Unfortunately for now the only thing kicking my ass is fatigue, so I'm off to bed.

20 / DEC / 06 - 0938 CST : Putting this page to bed...

The current page will be all finished up later today.  Then, if we're lucky I may even have a couple panels of the next one done before the night is out.

Well that's all I really had to say.

19 / DEC / 06 - 0851 CST : The progress of my work...

Hey guys.  Well I'm not sure if I'll be able to get this page finished up today, but if I do I know I won't get a chance to work on it till later on this evening.

Also, I'm aware of the typos / spelling mistakes in the strip so far (serves me right for doing the word bubbles when I was half asleep), and I promise they'll all be fixed once I update the page.  Okay, I've gotta take off now.

18 / DEC / 06 - 1959 CST : "It's a Wonderful Death - Pt. III"

Hey folks.

I'm hoping to have this page finished tomorrow, but I might be out of the house for most of the day, so I'll give you and update in the morning when I know more.

16 / DEC / 06 - 0942 CST : Small fix...

I fixed the problem with the archive that was causing people to see the black and white version of "It's a Wonderful Death - Pt. I" instead of the coloured one.  Keep in mind you may have to hit the refresh button for this to take affect.

15 / DEC / 06 - 1521 CST : Colour me old school...

Okay, I'm just finishing up the colours on the third panel of the latest strip, but I'm pretty sure I have at least enough steam left in me to finish up the fourth one too.  Regardless though, I will have work up for you guys to see in a few hours.

As well, I'd like to thank those of you who sent some feedback my way (both good and bad) concerning the colours for the last strip.  I appreciate the fact that you folks care enough to let me know what you think, and that you don't seem to mind me using the strips to do a bit of experimentation.  I have however switched back to the old school style of colouring  (yeah, like it was so long ago that I can really warrant calling it "old school") for the latest strip.

Not because I didn't like how "Wonderful Death - Pt. I" looked mind you, I just find my usual style a whole lot quicker and I really need to play some catch up here.

Anyway, I'll be back in a few with the pretty pictures.

14 / DEC / 06 - 1203 CST : "It's a Wonderful Death - Pt. I"

(I'm writing this quick as need to run out the door right away, so I apologize if there are any typos or flat out screwed up sentences within this post.  I'll be sure to correct them when I get back)

Well as you can see the colours for the last strip are now done.  Which at the moment puts me one strip behind the pace for this week.  Now I was hoping to have the newest strip done by this morning, but I'm not quite there yet.

It's funny, I remember swearing to myself last year that I wouldn't do a story that required full page strips three times a week again unless I had time enough time to allow for a two strip buffer (which unless I'm mistaken was a declaration I made here in the blog for all to see), and yet here we are again.

It's odd really.  I mean, one would think that I don't actually enjoy sleep or something...

December updates...

Anyway, I personally prefer not to have more than a two day pause between putting up new work, nor do I like posting work that has yet to be coloured.  So I've been trying to think of a way to remedy this situation, and after giving it a bit of thought I think I've come up with a possible solution.

After I've finished penciling each page, instead of inking, colouring, adding backgrounds or whatever for the entire strip, what I plan to do from now till the story is over is work on the pages in sections.  Which means I'll finish the first panel from inks to end, and once done do the same for the second panel, and then the third, and so on and so on.

This way, once I start running short on time and it looks like I won't be able to finish the page before I have to get some sleep or go to work, I'll be able to post what I have done without having to show you any ugly bare bones black and white stuff.  So in the end I'll still be completing each page within the same amount of time it was going to take me all along, but in the mean time you folks will be treated to a more constant stream of updates instead of having to wait a lot longer than you're used to for new content.

And hey, if this seems to work out well for everybody, than maybe, maybe I'll stick with doing full page strips from now on.

So on Friday I'll be setting this plan in motion and we can all see how it works out together.

Okay, that's enough yapping from me.  I'm off to the freakin' malls to see if I can't managed to finish off my Christmas shopping today.  So if the site isn't updated for quite a while after you read this, it means I've finally snapped and was arrested for going "Dead Rising" on the horde of mindless, slow-moving, so-insanely-rude-you'd-think-they've-got-a-candy-cane-shoved-up-their-ass zombies that always plague the stores this time of year.

13 / DEC / 06 - 1824 CST : Colour me tired...

I'm taking a break from working on the strips for now so that I can get some food and maybe even some sleep.  However, here's a couple panels (without backgrounds) to show how the colours are shaping up for the last strip.

Enjoy!

12 / DEC / 06 - 1021 CST : Upcoming strip schedule...

Hey folks.

My hours at work are pretty screwed up at the moment.  Normally I work Monday through Friday, but as of late my shifts have been all over the place due to staff shortage. So much so that I even ended up taking on an extra shift this last Sunday (which almost never happens).

As it stands right now I'm working tonight, then I get two nights off, followed by seven shifts in a row.  Then after that I'll have six days off (knock on cyber-wood).  Now what this means for the strip is that tomorrow's strip will either be up late in the evening or early Thursday morning.  Where as Friday's should be up on time.  After that...well let's just say I'll be doing the best I can, but I may end up having to play a lot of catch up on those six days I have off.

I also wanted to mention that the colours for yesterday's strip, which will most likely be done tomorrow, as well as a few others will be done in fairly different style than you're used to seeing.  I know I mentioned something about this before, but I just wanted to remind you all about it.

Oh, and just in case you're not fond of the new colours, don't worry too much about it as I'm 95% sure they'll be going back to the usual style after December.

So there you have it folks.  Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go figure out when I'll be able to fit time in my schedule for Christmas shopping and sleep.

PS: I also fixed the link problem that was causing people to skip over the last strip when they clicked on 'PREV' from the main page.

11 / DEC / 06 - 1916 CST : It's a Wonderful Death - Pt. I

I know I haven't posted here much lately, but I plan to make up for that in a couple of days.  For now though I need to get my ass to bed so that I can at least try to get four hours of sleep before work.

PS: Yes, there are typos in the strip (for example I know I screwed up surveillance), but I'm a little pressed for time right now so I'll fix them up tomorrow.

08 / DEC / 06 - 1759 CST : Fur is murder (to colour)...

Sorry it took so long for me to get the finished version of the strip up, but I was messing around with some different colouring techniques and lost track of time.  As you can see I had what you might call mixed success with my efforts.

The second panel looks all good and fine, but good lord did I ever screw up that ferret!  I'm tellin' you folks, fur is just the biggest bitch for me to do in some way that looks half decent.  Still, at least I figured out a few ways not to colour and shade animals, so I guess the time spent on it wasn't a total waste.

Anyway, I gotta run.

0922 CST : Playing catch up...

Hey folks.

I'll finally have a chance to get the colours for the last strip done later on today.  After that you can expect the strip that was regularly scheduled for today to be up sometime over the weekend.

Now once that strip is up things may be a bit sketchy as to when the updates will happen.  I'll try my best to stick with the Mon, Wed, Fri updates you've come to expect, but given the current craziness of both my paying job and the holidays in general, plus taking into account that most (if not all) of the strips for the coming Christmas story line will be full pages, there may be slight delays here and there till it wraps up in early Jan.

Keep in mind though I will still make sure that there are three new comics per week, I just don't know if they'll all fall on there usual days.  So please, bear with me here folks.  I promise you I'm doing the best that I can.

A new space for comics...

If you look to the left of main page under "GT Stuff" you'll notice a new link up for Geek Tragedy's ComicSpace.  For those of you who haven't heard ComicSpace is a new site that's been launched by OnlineComics.net creator Josh Roberts.

ComicSpace is basically a Myspace site for comics that, despite launching only a couple days ago, has quickly been embraced by both online comic and print comic creators alike.  Granted it's a little light on features at the moment, but so far I find it to an incredible service.  Not to mention a wonderful resource for discovering new webcomics that I may have missed otherwise.

In fact, I've been pretty blown away by just how many amazing webcomics there are out there that I've never even heard of before.  One artist in particular who really caught my eye with her work was Zoe Stead.  Seriously, this woman's colours and style totally blew me away.  Be sure to check out her work at on deviantart, as well as her comics Earthbound and The WAVAM Project.  Something tells me you won't be disappointed.

Well that's all for me. However I will be back with the coloured version of the strip later on in the day so keep your eyes peeled for that.

06 / DEC / 06 - 2308 CST : I can't give you the whole enchilada...

But I can give you a small taste.  I ended up being a few word bubbles away from having a black and white version of the strip up for you guys, but I've really gotta get my ass to work soon, so this is the best I can do for you at the moment.

I'll have the B&W version of the strip early tomorrow, and then hopefully the colours will be done later that night.

2011 CST : &$#@%...

Well with three hours to go before I have to start getting ready to head back into work, and taking into account how poorly things are going with the strip, I'm beginning to have serious doubts as to whether I can get it done on time.  Which mean of course if I can't manage to finish it off tonight then it looks like you may have to wait till tomorrow to check it out.

But hey, maybe if I get my ass back to work right now and stop being mister chatty-pants here I might still be able to pull this off, right?

03 / DEC / 06 - 2113 CST : Future acts of stripping...

Hey folks.

Just dropping by to give you all a heads up about what you can expect as far as the strip goes for the next little while.  This coming week I'll be working three more day shifts instead of my regular graveyards, so Monday's comic won't be up till later on in the evening.

Now on Wednesday I'm working till 4pm and then I have to head back into work for midnight that same night (don't pity me, I kinda did this to myself).  What this means is that there's a good chance I'll only have time to do the strip in black and white.  If this is the case though I'll try my best to have the colours done for it the next day, but I can't promise anything.

And speaking of colours, there may be some radical (but most likely temporary) changes to the way I colour the strip this month.  The reason being is for the next little while I need to get some practice in on various colouring techniques that are outside of what you're used to seeing from me.  Now normally I'd just do this sort of thing in my spare time, but seeing as how I don't have much free time for the next few weeks I'm going to try to merge this "practice" with my GT work.

Anyway, there's the scoop.  Now if you'll excuse me, I need to get as much work done on Monday's strip as I can before I head off to bed.

Later,

-Ed

01 / DEC / 06 - 2007 CST : "Wish List - Pt. I"

Normally if I was at this point in the strip's progress I'd still have plenty of time to get the colours done before midnight, but I've actually got to head out in an hour so I'll have to finish them off this weekend.  In the mean time though, I hope you don't mind the B&W version too much.

Later,

1057 CST : Christmas comes early...

Morning folks.

As you might have guessed from the last strip, I have kinda mixed feelings when it comes to winter in that I absolute love Christmas time, but hate snow.  Unfortunately I live in a city where snow is a day to day problem for about five months in the year, so it's pretty hard to escape.  Still, the anticipation of Christmas usually does a good job of helping me live through at least part of this snow plagued season.

And speaking of contrived segues...

All I want for Christmas...

The prologue for is year's Christmas story line will be starting up today, and then the story itself will fully launch later on next week.  Now I know it may seem kinda early for someone to be kicking off a holiday arc when it's only the first of December, and normally I'd agree with you, but trust me when I say I need the extra time.  'Cause try as I might, I found myself unable to edit this tale down to less than a dozen or so installments.  So basically if I don't start right now then it won't come to a close till spring of 2007.  Which, correct me if I'm wrong, would kinda be heading into "overkill" territory.

Anyway, I hope you like what Christmas shenanigans I have to offer you this year, and if not...well this may be kind of a loooooong month for you.

Okay people, I better get back to it.

Later,

-Ed

PS:  Given how it's pronounced, it never ceases to amaze me that "segue" is spelt the way it is.
