28 / FEB / 06 - 1443 CST : Y'all better be visiting the forum dammit!

Okay, here's how things stand as of right now:

The forum is up and working again. I'm not going to get into the trouble I had with this, but sufficed to say that somebody owes me a belly rub (but I guess I'll settle for a pat on the back instead).

Also the strip that couldn't be posted on Sunday and basically caused this whole mess is now where it should be.  Thanks to the kind person who let me know it wasn't up (you know who you are).  If you folks happen to stumble upon any other pages that don't seem to be loading right, or are missing completely, or any dead links please drop me an e-mail and let me know. 'Cause at this point I'm pretty much done with looking for mistakes.

So all in all everything seems to be running smoothly again, with the exception of the fact that for some reason I currently have to type in my password like a million times during the site publishing process.  I guess it could be worse, but it's still a pretty damn annoying thing to have to do!

Anyway, I'll have a few announcements to make tomorrow.  Me sleep now.

Later,

-Ed

0914 CST : Not quite out of the woods yet...

Well the site is back up now for the most part.  I'm going to be sifting through it for the better of the day trying to find anything that isn't working or missing.  One thing I know for sure that still isn't working is the forum, which will most likely be the next area I try to tackle.

Anyway, once we're 100% back to normal again, which most likely will be sometime tomorrow (knock on wood) I'll be sure to fill y'all in on what was up with the downtime.

Till then, sorry for the troubles and please hang in there.

Later,

-Ed

26 / FEB / 06 - 2316 CST : If you can still hear this...

You should know that while the site still appears to be working, e-mail that comes in through the site is currently down.  Not exactly sure at this point how long it'll be before Geek Tragedy is temporarily taken down for (I had thought it would've happened already), but you can expect the downtime to begin  within the next 24 hours.

I actually kinda hope the site comes down in the next little while, as the sooner  that happens, the quicker I can finish up all the technical crap I need to get done in order to bring it back up again.  And once that happens, I can actually start uploading the new strip(s) to the site.

Anyway, bear with us here folks.  I was told that all should be said in done within 48 hours at the latest and I'm still holding out hope of that time frame staying true.

Later,

-Ed

1708 CST : This is a test...

Hey folks.  Just testing something here.

0947 CST : Sooner than I thought...

Okay, so that downtime I was talking about an hour ago may be happening a little sooner than I thought.  Like within the next 24 hours or so.  So if you log on later today to check out the strip and the site is down, don't worry.  It's all part of my master plan.

However, if the site is still down 24 hours from now, then things haven't gone quite the way I expected them to go.

And any downtime longer than that will basically mean that things have gone horribly, horribly wrong.

But lets keep our "positive thinking caps" on for the time being shall we!

Later (just hopefully not too much later),

-Ed

0848 CST : Shuffle and repeat...

Hey folks.

As some of you may already know we're just about at Geek Tragedy's one year anniversary.  And seeing as how February was the best month we've ever had here...well let's just say that I've got some pretty high hopes for the month of March.

I'll be sure to tell y'all what I've got planned for next month once it's actually upon us, but in the mean time I just wanted to mention a couple things.

At this point I'm not exactly sure when, but the site may be coming down for a bit of maintenance sometime in the next couple of weeks.  Yeah, this isn't exactly the way I'd hoped to start off Geek Tragedy's second year either, but it's kind of unavoidable and will be for the better in the long run.  I'll be sure to give you guys a heads up just as soon as I know exactly when this is going to happen.

The other thing I wanted to mention was the fact that Geek Tragedy shirts are now available for pre-order.  Figured I'd let ya know in case you missed either the last blog entry about it, or the banners that I put up both here and on the strip page.  So if you're looking for a good way to help support he site, buying a shirt is the best way for any of you guys out there  to do just that.

Oh, and in case you missed the last paragraph I just wrote, don't worry.  I'll most likely be rewording this announcement and reposting it here a few more times over the next while until the pre-sale ends.

Yeah, I know.  I'm such a whore.

Anyway, the next strip will be up later today, so I'll talk to ya then.

Later,

23 / FEB / 06 - 1736 CST : "Paper / Plastic - Pt. I"

Sorry it took me so long to get today's strip up.  I was playing around with some colouring techniques and I burnt up a lot of time that way.

This comic was directly inspired by a recent exchange that took place on the forum.  Some of you most likely have figured that out already, but I just figured I'd mention it for those of you who don't drop by there too often.

Later,

-Ed

1045 CST - I can't even begin to tell you how long I've waited to announce this...

We are now finally able to accept pre-orders for the first ever Geek Tragedy T-shirt!

If you head on over to "The Store" page you'll be able to read all about it, but in the mean time let me put some of the info here for you:

------

Geek Tragedy's "Silhouette" T-Shirts

Until now Geek Tragedy T-shirts have only been things of myth and legend. Well folks, the legend has finally been made flesh!

Okay, actually we made 'em out of cotton (trust me, it's less messy that way), but still...

Anyway, the very first Geek Tragedy T-Shirt features all four main characters (Grey, Noname, Frank, and Casey)  in silhouette.  The words "The Hacker", "The Slacker", "The Grifter", "The Ghost" appear above their heads with Geek Tragedy below them.

This image is printed in white and red on the front of a black shirt.

We are currently accepting pre-orders for the shirts.  Pre-orders will be closed, and the order placed with the printers no later than March 9th, 2006.  I will only be ordering a handful more shirts than I have preorders for, so if you'd like to guarantee a shirt in your size preordering them NOW is your best best.

By buying a Geek Tragedy T-shirt not only are you saving the life of a unicorn*, you'll also be doing a lot to help support the site. So...what are you waiting for?

*Please note, saving a unicorn by buying a T-shirt has not been scientifically proven.

------

Man, have I ever been waiting a loooooong time to make that announcement!

So if you folks out there would like to help support the site, and get a bit of Geek Tragedy swag for your troubles, please head on over to "The Store" and pre-order a shirt.  And just so you know, I'm planning on retiring this particular shirt design after this one order.  So once they're all gone, they're gone for good.

One final note.  For those of you who were wondering what the the "ladies" tees look like, I should have an example pic up on "The Store" page by sometime tonight.  Sorry there isn't one up there now, but I don't currently have a link to that style of shirt yet.

Well I better get back to working on the strip.

Later,

-Ed

21 / FEB / 06 - 1545 CST - "Congratz Ali!"

About a week ago I was contacted by a fellow named Michael Rouse-Deane asking if I'd like to contribute to a "secret project" he was working on.  Now when I first got his e-mail I took one look at it, stupidly thought it was spam, and immediately banished it from my inbox.

Lucky for me, he e-mailed me again a couple days later.  It was at that point that I realized his "secret project" didn't involve selling me some cheap pharmaceuticals, or wanting to increase the size of my manhood.  And so I quickly went back and read his original e-mail.

As it turns out Michael was putting a book together to help celebrate the 1000th strip of the webcomic HOUSD (yeah, you read that right...1000th strip!), which went up yesterday.  He was asking a bunch of artists and fans alike if they'd be willing to contribute some art and / or a few words to the book, and wanted to know if I'd like to take part.

Which of course I did...for two reasons.

First off, I was just plain floored that someone out there who is not my mother would actually request to see my artwork.

And secondly because hitting 1000 strips and still being able to produce a comic that is fresh and funny, which Ali Graham does quite handily with HOUSD, is pretty damn amazing in my book.  And as a virtual newbie to the webcomic scene I was thrilled to have a chance to let him know just how inspirational it is for me to see someone achieve that kind of a milestone.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to produce the strip that I had intended to submit for the book in time, so I went with an alternate bit of artwork.  However, I did in fact finish the "Congratz Ali!" strip, and even though it didn't make to the book I couldn't let it go to waste either.  So here it is folks.

The second and third panels of the strip contain my interpretation of a few of Ali's characters.  They are totally his own creation and I in no way lay any claim on them whatsoever.  If you'd like to see more of them (drawn the way they should be!) please check out HOUSD. You won't be disappointed.

Well that's all from me.

Later,

-Ed

PS:  Ali, if you're reading this, I promise that I will leave your characters the hell alone from now on!

20 / FEB / 06 - 1350 CST - I can only assume that something very bad is about to happen...

The past couple of days have been pretty good to me for the most part.

Yesterday my cordless phone, which had seemingly died a few weeks ago, somehow managed to miraculously heal itself and is now working just fine.  I was able to get the colours done on yesterday's strip earlier this morning, which means I won't have to add yet another strip to my collection of sub-par black and white strips.  As well, I managed to get a fair amount of sketching done earlier today. And for a nice change of pace, I was actually happy with it.

But the absolute best thing to happen in the past couple days took place earlier this morning when I became 100% certain that the Geek Tragedy T-shirts will in fact become a reality!

Halle-Freakin'-luiah!

So here's the way things stand right now as far as the shirts go:

- Here is the image that will appear on the shirts:

- The pre-sale will start either Wednesday or Thursday.  Probably Wednesday.  It will last no longer than two weeks, and after that I will be placing my order.  Two weeks after the order has been placed, the shirts will be ready and I'll start sending them out the next day.

- I will only be ordering a limited number of shirts over the pre-ordered amount. So the only way to guarantee a shirt in your size will be to pre-order it.

- There will be both XXL (and  larger) shirts as well as ladies cut shirts available to order, however they will cost a bit more than the regular shirts.

- Payments can be made through PayPal, or credit cards (via PayPal).  I will try to accommodate other methods of payment as well, so just e-mail me and we can discuss it.

I've still got a few things to work out yet, so that's all the info I have for you at the moment.  In the mean time, if you have any questions please feel free to e-mail me at store@geektragedy.com or post a message HERE on the forum, and I'll get back to you ASAP.

Okay, that's it for now folks.  More news to come tomorrow!

19 / FEB / 06 - 1657 CST - "Training Wheels"

Yeah, today's comic is currently in black and white, and for that I am truly sorry.  I'll get to the colours first thing tomorrow morning when I get home from work.

Off to bed.

-Ed

1501 CST : Good or maybe even gooder news will be coming soon...

Worst case scenario, the strip will be up today but the colouring and backgrounds won't be done till tomorrow.

On the other hand there's a chance that it'll be totally finished before I head to bed.  Unlikely, but there is still a chance.

I'll let you know either way later on when it's up.

Till then,

-Ed

18 / FEB / 06 - 1244 CST : Sunday may come a day late this week...

Well actually Sunday's strip may be a day late.  It's about 50 / 50 right now.  Hopefully those odds will fall in my favour though and I'll have it up on time after all.

I'll keep y'all posted.

16 / FEB / 06 - 1508 CST : "Immoral Code - Pt. III"

There are usually two types of strips that I end up producing.

The first kind are the ones that are born out of what I feel are really humorous ideas, and as such are there just for a laugh.  When all is said and done they usually have no real impact on any past, present, or future GT storylines.  They're just gag strips, pure and simple.

On the flip side of that coin are the plot heavy strips.  These are the ones that require me to get from point A to B in an effort to cover certain key points that I need to have in place for other (often more important) storylines down the road.  Unfortunately they also tend to have the lamest jokes (providing they even have a joke at all), because with them I put the humor second.

Of all the strips I've done I of course have a short list of favorites.  90% of which is comprised of the "gag" variety.

I mention all this because today's strip was always conceived as a "plot point" strip, and yet now that it's finished I can honestly say that it's quite high on my favorite's list.

Yeah, that's right! I just took  five or so paragraphs to let y'all know something that could have easily been summed up simply by saying "This strip is one of new favorites."

Why did I choose to do it that way you ask?  Because for once I've managed to finish a strip and still be awake enough to feel like writing, and as fate would have it I didn't really have something to say.  So instead I chose to say a whole lot of nothing at great length.

There, I feel better now.

Oh, and because I think it's a shame that the second panel ended up being obscured by so much text, here it is without.

Man, that wuss is always crying it seems...

Later,

-Ed

1108 CST : Pre-strip show...

Howdy folks!

No, the strip isn't up yet. I'm just getting all these pesky words out of the way now as I'm usually too tired to even think straight by the time the comic is done.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure today's strip will be the last installment in the "Immoral Code" storyline. There is a slim chance that I may tack on a fourth chapter come Sunday, but unless I figure out some way to strengthen the joke I've got for it I'd rather just move on.

And the survey saysÖ

I've closed the poll regarding what image you folks would most like to see on the first Geek Tragedy T-shirt. Here is your winnerÖ

I was going to put up a banner both here and on the main strip page for another week asking for people to vote, but given how the voting breakdown was shaping up so far I'm pretty sure I already know which one was going to be considered the favourite in the long run anyway. Besides I didn't really want to wait another week before I move on to the next step.

The next step by the way is my having one final chat with the screen printer regarding the order, and then opening up presales for the shirts. I'm hoping this will happen sometime around the middle of next week. I'll be sure to go into more detail about the shirts then.

However, because I'm certain I'll be asked about it before then anyway, I will say this; At this time I still don't know if this shirt will be available in both men's and women's styles. I'll try my best to accommodate you ladies out there who prefer the more form fitting gender specific style, but there is a very good chance that in the end I will have to stick to the more standard type of T-shirt. 'Cause even though I do so very much like to make the ladies happy, I already know that there will be a higher demand for regular style Tees.

Sorry!

Well I guess thatís all Iíve got for ya right now. Iíll post again once the strip is up though.

14 / FEB / 06 - 1503 CST : How could I forget...

I updated the "of the moment" box in the top right hand corner there with one of the funniest bits of musical violence I've seen in a good long while.

Enjoy!

-Ed

1422 CST : "Immoral Code - Pt. II"

Yes, it's Valentine's Day!  And no, I didn't make a special strip for it.

Sorry folks.  I was planning on doing up a card much like I did last year, but I just ran out of time.

I did however get the new strip done and up, so if you find yourself in a real pickle you could always send that to object of your lust and / or affection.  Though given the total unromantic nature of today's strip, I wouldn't really suggest it.

Other than that I don't really have much to report.  Well, I guess I do have a few things I could report, but nothing that is set in stone yet so I'd rather keep my mouth shut for now.  That way I don't have to come back here a week or so from now and say "Remember that thing that I said that was going to happen...well it's not so much gonna happen anymore."  'Cause that just makes me look stupid.  And I'd really like to cut back on looking stupid this year if I can.

Well that's all for now!

Hey people.  The first part of a new storyline begins today.

Oh, and when you're done checking out the strip,  please be sure to vote for what image you like best in the Geek Tragedy T-shirt poll if you haven't already.  And hey, if you're still in a voting sorta mood after that you can always click the vote button to your left as well.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.  I know.  I'm like a broken record.  Sorry (but please vote!).

11 / FEB / 06 - 1026 CST : Better late than never...

Okay, before I start into what I came here to say I have to get something off my chest.

Onion does not belong on a clubhouse sandwich...EVER!

Seriously, if I have to say the words "Could I get that with no onion please?" then I had better be ordering a bloody cheese burger, not a damn clubhouse!

I mean for the love of God people, if you're going to screw up a perfectly good club by putting onion on it don't call it a clubhouse!  Call it a...I don't know...skanky whorehouse or something instead!  Or if you must bastardize it by adding that particular ingredient, mark that on the freakin' menu (preferably with big bold red letters!).  After all you always seem to go to the trouble of spelling out what exactly goes into such mysterious sounding dishes like the "BLT" or the "grilled cheese sandwich", so why should a club be treated any differently?

*sigh*

But enough about that...

You may remember how back at the beginning of November of last year, Lar deSouza  from over at Least I Could Do did up a guest strip for me.  Well it seems later on that month he had tried to send me a special birthday pic showing what his own unique take on the rest of the GT crew would be.  The only thing is, the pic never actually made it to me, and neither of us realized this until just a couple weeks ago.

Luckily though Lar still had the pic on his computer and was kind enough to resend it to me.  And now that I've seen it, let me tell you folks, the phrase "Better late than never" doesn't quite cover it!  It's AMAZING!

I just love the spin he puts on each of the crew.  Plus I've looked at this pic a million times now, and I still laugh every time I look at Frank and Bo locking eyes.  I tell ya, it's just plain sick how talented Lar is.

Thanks man!  I definitely owe ya one (or is it two now?)!

That's all for now folks.

09 / FEB / 06 - 1537 CST : "Viewer Feedback - Pt. IV"

Once again I dip into the old mailbag (as well as current headlines) to find inspiration for a new strip.

Now I'm not a political person by nature.  In fact, I'm just about the least politically minded person I know.  So not surprisingly Geek Tragedy isn't a very politically charged strip.  It's just not what I want it to be.  So while I personally have certain opinions regarding both the violence that is erupting around the world right now, as well as about the Danish editorial cartoon that has sparked it, I don't feel comfortable airing those views out through Noname and the gang.

So today's strip will be just about all you'll ever hear from me about this subject.  Which, as you'll find out once you've read it, ain't much.

Alrighty!  I'm off to bed now.  Before I go though, I posted that poll asking what design you guys think would look best on T-shirt.  So if you have three seconds to kill, please drop by there and cast a vote.  And just so you know, you don't have to be a member of the forum to vote.

08 / FEB / 06 - 1438 CST : Choose how you'd best like to get rid of your nudity...

I've posted a topic on the forum asking for you folks to sound off on what design you'd like on the first Geek Tragedy T-shirt

If you'd be kind enough to post your comments on this subject, they'd be much appreciated.  However, if you're the shy type, you may want to wait till tomorrow when the survey regarding the GT-shirts is up and running.   Or you can always e-mail me about all this to and let me know that way.

I'm not sure how long I'm going to leave this topic open for debate, but it probably won't be for much longer than a week.  I know a few of you (myself included) have been waiting for some type of GT-shirt to become a reality for a while now, so I'd like to be able to get started on it, and have my order sent off to the printers ASAP.

That's all for now.

07 / FEB / 06 - 1922 CST : "Fund Hellraisers - Pt. V"

The final installment of "Fund Hellraisers" is now up.

For those of you folks who are visiting the site for the first (but hopefully not last) time, there are new strips up every Tues, Thurs, and Sun.  Oh, and if you like what you see here, please be sure to click the old VOTE button to the left there.

Thanks everyone!

1813 CST : Almost there...

For those of you who are wondering, yes, there will be a strip up today.

Sorry it's up so much later than usual, but I have the night off work so I knew I'd be able to sleep in later on. Which in turn made slack a bit, and take a very looooong break from working on it so that I could watch The Devil's Rejects and The 40 Year Old Virgin again.

But I'm back at it now, so it should only be an hour or two more.

See ya then,

0757 CST :  This is why chickens don't use cell phones...

Have you ever found  yourself out and about in the middle of nowhere with nothing but a raw egg, a radio, two cell phones, and a powerful hunger?

Not any more!

Wow, and here I thought cell phones hit the peak of their usefulness when you started to be able to use them to download porn...uh...music.

1601 CST : Make that 28 hours(ish)...

Yesterday I posted that a new strip would be up within 24 hours.  I did so at 1323 CST.  It is now just before 1600 CST.

0657 CST : Some laws may have gray areas, but stupidity is usually black and white...

Friends of mine have come to learn that I've got some pretty set views as to what "piracy" is.  In fact I'm one of the few people I know that spends a fair amount of time online and yet doesn't make use of some sort of file sharing program.  I just can't bring myself to do it, as I feel that particular path is laid out on far too slippery of a slope.

However, that being said I still don't think I'll ever be able to allow myself to side with the RIAA on just about anything.  And the following is a perfect example as to why:

Marie Lindor to Move for Summary Judgment

Marie Lindor, a home health aide who has never bought, used, or even turned on a computer in her life, but was nevertheless sued by the RIAA in Brooklyn federal court for using an "online distribution system" to "download, distribute, and/or make available for distribution" plaintiff's music files, has requested a pre-motion conference in anticipation of making a summary judgment motion dismissing the complaint and awarding her attorneys fees under the Copyright Act.

*sigh*

It's like they go out of their way to try and make themselves appear to be totally unlikable evil pricks or something.  This sort of thing is exactly why I refuse to be in their corner when it comes to just about anything.  It's like the whole MPAA / DECSS drama that happened a few years back.  And if you're not sure what I'm talking about there, just pop over to 2600.com and type in "DeCSS" on that site's search box.  Trust me, you'll be given more info on that subject than you'd ever be able to read.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, no, the strip I'm going to be posting today doesn't have anything to do with this.  But there may be one in the near furture...

02 / FEB / 06 - 1323 CST : Test zone...

I just wanted to give you folks a heads up that I'm going to be testing out a few things on the site throughout the day.  Most (if not all) of what I do shouldn't ever touch the main pages of the site.  However, incase they do, and within that time  you happen to drop by and see that things look a little screwy, I apologize. Don't worry though,  I'll try to have everything back to normal ASAP.

Oh, and things'll be getting back on track as far as the strips go (which is to say there will be new ones posted) in within the next 24 hours.  Thanks for your patients in this area over the last couple days.

01 / FEB / 06 - 1944 CST : Once more a creature of the night...

My hellish stint of day shifts are finally over.  To tell the truth, aside from the fact that they totally screwed up my sleeping habits and turned me into a bit of a zombie for the past few days, they really weren't that bad I guess.  Still, I'm glad they're over now, and with any luck I won't be back on days for another year at least.

Sorry about not getting Tuesday's strip up yesterday folks.  But as promised I have now posted a couple wallpapers for you guys to download if you'd like.

The first one (which you may remember from the old site if you've been hanging around here for that long) is made up from the very first Geek Tragedy splash page I ever did.  While the second one is a visual remix of Sunday's "100 strips" strip.

I'll try to put up a few more wallpapers for you guys to grab over the next while, but for now though I'd kinda like to focus on the actual comics instead.  After all, that's why we're all here in the first place, right?

Well that's all for now.
