30 / MAR / 07 - 1635 CST : The strip says it all...

Now I'm off to lay back down on the couch till Nibbles chokes to death on my spleen.  Oh, and I'll try to drop by this weekend and get to those things I wanted to mention.

Later,

28 / MAR / 07 - 1933 CST : I'll let someone else to the talking for me today...

Hey folks.  I have a few things to mention, but I'm going to hold off until tomorrow for that.  In the mean time I'd like to direct your attention to another blog entry you might want to read.

Tanya Higgins, creator of the webcomic BetaPwned (which I enjoy reading every week), took the time to write what can only be described as an embarrassingly flattering review of Geek Tragedy over at her Myspace page.  She even goes so far as to use the word "professional" to describe my artwork.

Seriously, I think I need to hire Tanya as my PR rep.  Or at least bake her some cookies or something.

So please drop by her site and check out her strip.  It's well worth the trip through the intertubes.

Okay folks, back tomorrow to talk some more, but for now I need to try and see if I can't get a bit more sleep before work.

Later,

-Ed

27 / MAR / 07 - 1817 CST : Passports and potholes...

As you might have already guessed the last couple of strips spawned from real life events.  Due to a change in border laws any person in Canada (and I think everywhere else in the world) now requires a passport when flying into the US.  Granted I've been meaning to get one for a couple years now, but as usual I've managed to find various reasons to procrastinate on this matter...till now that is.

Given the fact that I'll be heading on out to Connecticut this year I decided that rather than trying to ship myself out via Fed/ex in an attempt to allude the US customs agents, it might be simpler if I just broke down and applied for a passport.  However, after filling out all the forms, answering a whole whack of questions, and doing my best to provide the government with a list of names of people who will hopefully vouch for the fact that I am not a threat to our neighbors to the south, a large crate with a bedpan and some air holes is looking mighty good right about now.

Of course we're still a little ways off before a passport is required to drive into the states, but given the fact that I absolutely despise driving, I don't really consider that an option.

Which brings me to Monday's strip.  Maybe this is just a Winnipeg thing, but somehow I feel that anyone who lives somewhere that has snow and ice all winter long can probably relate to what it's like to try and navigate city streets come spring.  There is nothing more annoying then driving over what appears to be a one inch puddle of water, only to find a car / soul swallowing pit of tire damage lurks beneath it's glassy surface.  Trust me when I tell you that it only takes one popped tire and a broken steering rod (at least I think that's what it was called...outside of its colour I'm pretty clueless when it comes to cars) to make you cringe each time you have to drive over a large dark puddle in spring.

And by the way, shouldn't we be rocking the streets in hovercars by now?  I mean really, it's not like I'm asking for jetpacks here, right?

Anyway, I think that's enough bitching for now.  On to a more entertaining things.

Fan art...

My friend Jeff Dabu was kind enough to send me a quick sketch of Bluebird that he did last week.  Jeff's been getting a lot of work as an inker lately (btw, be sure to check out a great little book called "A Bit Haywire" if you'd like to see some of his inks) , but he's also been doing his best to get back into the pencils mindset as well.  If you head to his Deviantart page you'll have a chance to see some pages of his own comic that he produced years ago before was getting paid for his inking talents.

Thanks for the sketch Jeff!

End with a song...

Well that's all for now folks.  There'll be a new strip up tomorrow for you to check out, but in the mean time you may want to give a listen to the latest bit of musical parody genius that Weird Al has blessed up with.

Later,

26 / MAR / 07 - 1905 CST : More later...

I'll be back tomorrow to talk a bit about the last couple of strips and what's happening in the GT universe.  Plus I'll also have some more fan art to show you.  For now though I've gotta jet.

21 / MAR / 07 - 1500 CST : "Belly Flop"

Wow.  I could've swore that I wrote at least something here in the past five days, but I guess not...

Well in case you're wondering if I just made all that stuff up about male belly dancers in Canada, I'm hear to tell you you it's all true baby.  Much like Grey I too read an article about this growing phenomena.  And keep in mind when I say "growing" I only do so with the belief that at one point not too long ago there were merely five male belly dancers (or MBD's as I like to call 'em) instead of the mind numbing half dozen there currently are performing in Canada.

Now one of the biggest drawbacks with doing long or longish storylines is that when you're right in the middle of them, and then you read an article like the one I did, you can't just stop what you're doing and draw a strip about it.  At least not without disrupting the flow of the story.

Which is why I figured that while I'm currently untethered by the shackles of one of my more robust tales, I might as well take advantage of the fact and do a few one shot strips on whatever random shit strikes my fancy at the moment.

Anyway, there you go folks.  You can expect to see a few more strips like this one before I head back into a multi-part arc, so I hopefully you don't mind.

Well that's it for me.  I'm off to try and get a full eight hours for a change.

Later,

-Ed

16 / MAR / 07 -  CST : Okay, now I'm ready to blather on...

Hey folks.

I didn't quite get around to posting here yesterday, so allow me to make up for it now.

The Strip...

For those of you who were wondering, yes, the line about the talking koala was indeed a reference to Speedy from A Girl and Her Fed.  A character who in my opinion is one of the best written cast members of any of the webcomics I read.  In fact it's sort of a dream of mine that Speedy will one day be given a regular spin off comic of his own so that I can get my Speedy fix in regularly scheduled intervals.

But then again as some who has a hard enough time keeping up with doing just one webcomic, I don't really think I'm in any position to request more work from other artists, am I?

And speaking of keeping up with the GT updates, today's strip, the last full page strip for quite a while I believe, will in fact be up later on this evening.  I was actually hoping to get it done around this time of the day, but it seems I either have to edit down the text a bit or rework the first three panels, so it's taking a bit longer than I anticipated.  Still, it will be done before the day is through, and that's what really matters, right?

The Cons...

Okay, my table at the Paradise Comic Con in Toronto has been confirmed, as has the one I'll be setting up at the Manitoba Comic Con.  On top of which I've already booked my hotel room for my stay in Hartford during Connecticon.  However, they seem to be having some technical difficulties as far as the Artist Alley registration goes, so I've yet to be able to book a table.  But seeing as how I plan to jump on that the second it's up, I don't think I'll have to worry too much about getting a space.

Now all that's left for me to do is get all the prep work done that will allow me to promote the site the way I'd like to, and maybe even recoup at least some of the cost that jetting around North America tends to rack up.

Also I will do my best to put up that permanent list I talked about weeks ago showing you exactly what cons I'll be attending in 2007.  So if things go like they usually do, you can expect it to be up sometime in early 2008.

Okay, I actually have more to write about here, but I really want to get back to the strip so it'll have to wait for now.

Later,

14 / MAR / 07 - 0827 CST : Quiet time...

Hey folks!

I know I haven't done much in the way of posting here lately, and I'll do my best to correct that come tomorrow, but at least the strips have been going up on the right days.  Which by the way is why I've dropped by.  I just wanted to let you know that you can expect the second to last installment of the full page strip-o-rama to be up later this evening.

Okay, take care guys and like I said before, I'll try to bring the longwinded hammer down on y'all tomorrow to make up for the recent lack of news posts.

Later,

09 / MAR / 07 - 2120 CST : Typing tired is a bad thing...

Hey folks.  The strip is now up.  And just so you know I realize it's got some typos, and will be sure to fix them up tomorrow after I've gotten home from work and had some sleep.

Okay, I need to take off.

07 / MAR / 07 - 0907 CST : A day late (and no, for once I'm not talking about the strip)...

Hey folks.

I meant to post this last night, but it slipped my mind till after I went to work.  On top of the wonderful work I received from Pete and Brooke I was also treated to an amazing bit of fan art from none other than Lar deSouza!

So by all means do yourself a favour and click here to see what a battle between Bluebird and the Ferret Demon should really look like!

Surviving the forum...

One other thing before I get back to work on today's strip (which should be up later on tonight btw).  Due to spamming issues, I had to set the forum so that all new members must be individually approved by me before they can post.

Now the screening process for this is twofold. First I send off a confirmation e-mail to the address you provided.  Now if this gets bounced back to me, I go ahead and delete your forum account.  If not, then I approve you and immediately check out your forum profile to see if it's legit or not.  And if it's not, you guessed it, I delete the account.  Or if it's borderline and I'm not quite sure, I'll lock it for a few weeks instead.  If you don't contact me within that time, then I delete.

Now the reason I'm telling you all this is there's always the chance that somewhere along the line I made a mistake and maybe locked or deleted a legit account.  If this is the case, please drop me and e-mail and let me know.  After all, I'm taking these measure to protect the community that already enjoys the forum, not exclude new people from it (unless they're spammers of course, in which case they're not technically "people" to begin with, but rather some form of garbage laced feces that simply exists in human form).

So there you go folks.  I'll be back on just as soon as I can to post the newest strip, but that might not be till late into the evening so bear with me.  Till then, enjoy fan art!

Later,

-Ed

04 / MAR / 07 - 1240 CST : Because some people aren't lazy bastards like I am...

Hey folks.

Well it looks like the next strip won't be up this weekend after all.  However, thanks to a couple of people out there who unlike me actually accomplished something in their spare time I do have some new eye-candy for y'all to see.

First up, compliments of Pete Tarkulich, we've got a little bit of webcomic crossover action happening here as Francis from Bardsworth squares off against the Ferret Demon (who, much to my chagrin,  is better known on the forum as "The Skunk Demon").

And next we see who A Girl and Her Fed's, Brooke Spangler figures will come out on top after the face off between Bluebird and The Ferret Demon is all said and done.

I tell ya, I get such a kick out of seeing how other people interpret my characters artistically.  So a HUGE "Thank you!" to Brooke and Peter for taking the time out of their lives to do those up for me, and for the smile you two brought both to my face when I opened your e-mails!

Oh, and while you're waiting for the next strip to be posted (which oh dear God I hope happens this Monday) be sure to click the links above and check out Bardsworth and A Girl and Her Fed.  Trust me, it's well worth it.  Plus I figure ya'll might want to get a taste of what it's like to read a couple webcomics that actually post their updates on time.

Okay guys, that's it for me.  I'm off to try and see if I can't figure out a better way to draw and  colour angel wings.

Later,

02 / MAR / 07 - 0946 CST : Words work gooder now...

Hey folks.

I've touched up the size and spacing of the last strip.  Plus I reworded a bit of the dialog in place I just wasn't happy with.

Unfortunately due to a particularly hellish day at work capping off an overall hellish week, I need to kick back for today.  So while I may be back later today to drop some more news or post in the forum, the next strip won't be up till this weekend.

Okay, my bed is calling to me.

Later,

-Ed
