29 / SEP / 07 - 1919 CST : Like Lindsay Lohan behind the wheel of a car...

I'm crashing now folks.  I'd love to get the strip done before I do, but it's kinda hard to work when you feel like a zombie.  I imagine that's why you rarely hear about the undead holding down a job.

I'll be back at it once I wake up though.

28 / SEP / 07 - 1207 CST : Saturday is the new Friday anyway...

Hey folks,

Well I'm guessing y'all saw this coming.  At least, anyone who visits the site on a regular basis probably did.  As my friend Christy once put it a long long time ago, "Friday is the day you let everyone know that the strip won't be up till Saturday, right?"

Yes, that's right, the strip won't be up till Saturday.  In fact, one more week of this and I may just go ahead and make Saturday one of the official update days instead of Fridays.

I will try to get something up for you guys to see today, but nothing's set in stone just yet.  If I do post something though, it'll be here in the news section instead of up above in the strip boxes.

Alrighty everyone, I'm off to bed.

26 / SEP / 07 - 1421 CST : In case you were wondering...

1) To tell the truth, I have actually played Halo before...for about 30 seconds.  So yeah, I really didn't have much in the way of personal knowledge to work with on this one.

2) No, I didn't make the Super Chief up. He is in fact real hero in the DC universe.  What can I say? I've got a soft spot for obscure comic book characters.

3) Yes, this really is the best I could come with as far as a Halo strip is concerned.  So I guess it's pretty safe to say that I won't be producing a gaming comic anytime soon.

25 / SEP / 07 - 0859 CST : More learning, less sucking...

Hey folks.

After taking a step back and looking at it again, I find myself being rather displeases with how yesterday's strip turned out.  Specifically the buildings / backgrounds (though there are a few other part of it that bother me as well).  So this morning I'm going to be running with a suggestion I received a long time ago from my friend Jeff, and spend most of the day trying to learn how to use Sketchup.

Which means there's a chance that today's GT Squared won't be up until tomorrow.  Of course I didn't think yesterday's strip would be up on time either, so who knows, maybe I'll have time to do it today after all.

Also, if things go well with Sketchup, I may go ahead and redo some of the backgrounds in past strips over the next few months.  Generally I don't like reworking past strips, even if I'm not overly thrilled with how they turned out, as I feel it's important to have a record of how my artwork is (or more importantly, is not) progressing.

As well, if I did ever get into the habit of redoing all the strips I don't like, I know I'd end up taking an artistic mulligan on at least the first year and a half of Geek Tragedy.  Which in turn would result in me spending all me time living in the past, rather than creating new works in the future.  However, in the case of backgrounds, I may end up making an exception for certain strips.

Alrighty, that it for me.  Time to ring the school bell and set my brain to "learning" mode.

Hey folks.

Well it turns out I was able to get the regular strip done today after all.

23 / SEP / 07 - 1644 CST : The old swicheroo...

Hey folks.

Just a quick note before I head to bed.  I spent the weekend working on a couple of commissions (and eating seafood with some wonderful company) so I haven't had a chance to dig into the next full GT strip.  So what I'll most likely be doing is posting tomorrow's strip on Tuesday, and Tuesday's GT Squared on Monday instead.

Anyway, I figured y'all would appreciate the heads up.

Okay, I'm packing it in now.

21 / SEP / 07 - 1711 CST : I'll strip after I sleep...

Hey folks.

I'm going to grab some Z's before I finish off the strip, so it'll be up later on into the night then I thought it would.  On the plus side though, at this point it looks like it'll be coloured once it's posted.

Alrighty, see y'all once it's done.

20 / SEP / 07 - 1617 CST : Bacon and bodily fluids...

Okay, here's the problem.  I wanted to reference "The Guild" in a strip, but didn't want to do it at the expense of making the joke inaccessible to folks who haven't seen it.  Now hopefully I accomplished that, but if not...well then I guess I gave y'all the perfect reasons to check it out.

And yes, making mention of a web-based show that only has three episodes under its belt could potentially set me up for creating a strip that will fall into obscurity within a month if nothing more comes of that project, however I really don't see that being the case.  When shows are produced for TV, regardless of how good they are or how hard the folks behind the scenes work towards making it a success, whether it lives or dies usually rests in the hands of the network.  And often it doesn't even matter how much potential it shows or how vocal the fan base is, 'cause if it did, I'm thinking Firefly would be in it's fifth season by now.

On the web however, the Fox or NBC network executives of the world don't mean shit.  What does matter though, and what makes the internet such an amazing platform for creativity, is that often it's the passion of folks behind the projects being produced that determines their success (and of course the quality of that which they're producing, but that's something that can have a certain amount of room to build with each new installment).  And in the case of "The Guild", at least from everything I've read about both it and the creative forces behind it, the passion seems to be there in abundance.

So yeah, there's no guarantee that it'll take off, but personally I have a feeling it's going to end up being big!

Then again I also thought The Hat Squad was going to be huge too, so take that as you will.

You may want to get out your crayons...

Okay, two more things before I head to bed.  First off, there will be a new full sized Geek Tragedy strip up tomorrow.  However, there's a good chance it won't be coloured until later on in the weekend.

Yeah, I'm disappointed too.  Unfortunately though, until I figure out how to bend the forces of time and space to my will, or manage to kick this annoying "need for sleep" habit of mine, I just don't see how I can swing the colouring in the next 24 hours or so.

And secondly, I think bacon is pretty much the king of all meat, and I would gladly walk into the mouth of hell just so long as there was a plate of it waiting there for me.

Okay, off to bed.

18 / SEP / 07 - 1058 CST : Lighting a fire under on me...

Hey folks.

Just so we're clear, any similarities you may find between the "pain puppet" and a certain masterful webcomic artist (who shall remain, deSouza) are completely coincidental.  Besides, they're really not all that similar as Lar is much taller and rarely lets people stick their hand...never mind.

Seriously though, if anyone is worried about Lar taking offence to today's GT˛, let me assure you that he was the first person to see it (I sent him a preview of the artwork yesterday) and was in fact rather amused.  Granted there was no text included with the pic I sent him, so there's always a chance his opinion has changed, but something tells me he's still going to get a kick out of it.

And in case any of you are wondering, no, I don't own a fire wielding Lar puppet that punishes me when I screw up.  However I don't mind telling y'all that I do often look towards the man's work to help inspire me to keep trying my best and constantly improve my craft.

And if that doesn't work, only then do I break out the matches.

Please, join "The Guild"...

I don't really have a good segue for the following, so I figured I'd just jump right into it.  If you're looking for a good laugh, and have a few minutes to spare to watch some amazingly well crafted comedic shorts, please head over to www.watchtheguild.com and check out "The Guild".

Now, some of the humor may be a bit lost on you if you're not into games like World of Warcraft or Everquest, but something tells me you'll still get a kick out of it regardless.  Unfortunately there's only three episodes up at the moment, however given how positive the response to them seems to have been so far, I'm thinking there should be more than a few new ones coming up in the not too distant future.

At least I hope there is, 'cause I don't think I've been this excited about a web based show since my buddy Travis first told me about Red vs Blue.

Oh, and one more thing about "The Guild" before I head to bed.  Once you get to the third episode, be sure to watch right through to the end of the credits, or you'll be missing out.

Okay guys.  I'm pretty much done here.  Take care, and I'll see y'all on Thursday with a new Geek Tragedy Squared.

14 / SEP / 07 - 1552 CST : I don't like the drugs, but the drugs like me...

Hey folks.

Sadly there won't be a new strip up till Monday I'm afraid.  I have what seems to be the beginning of a cold / flu type thing, and I know myself well enough to know that if I don't start sucking on the NyQuil teat and get my ass to bed ASAP, I'll be laid up for days.  And quite frankly, I don't fancy that happening.

However, I do have guest strip up over at Tanya's slice of life webcomic BetaPwned, so you can check that out if you'd like.  I don't think the art turned out quite as well as I would've liked, but I am rather happy with the pacing of the joke.  Still, I'm hoping I have a chance to redeem myself and get another crack at tackling her characters one day.

Oh, and as for the bit of filler I've got going on up top there, it's my first attempt at using grey-scale shading brush / markers.  Keep in I've never been very good with using brushes, so it's not exactly the best looking thing I've ever done, but ya gotta start somewhere, right?

Now before I head off to green liquid heaven, there are a few other things I'd like to mention.

Shoutin' right back at ya...

I just wanted to thank the fine folks over at ImagineFX (specifically Kay) for the little shout out they gave me on their site's blog.  You guys rock!

And to all of you who made your way here via the linkage, welcome aboard!  I hope you manage to get a kick out of what you see here.

E-mail madness...

I'm currently waaaaaay behind on my e-mails right now, but I plan to tackle them this weekend.  So if you're waiting on an e-mail from me, you should be seeing on by Sunday.  And if you're not expecting an e-mail from me...well hell, maybe I'll just send you one anyway.

I sure hope it wasn't the cure for cancer...

Okay, I've forgotten the last thing I was going to mention...and now my brain is starting to tingle, so I guess that means the NyQuil is working!

Okay guys, that's it for me.  Have yourselves a great weekend!

Now if you'll excuse me...NyQuil, take me awayyyyyyyyyyyy....

11 / SEP / 07 - 1753 CST : Ironmanhood...

Hey folks.

If you haven't seen the Ironman trailer yet, do yourself a favour and check it out!  I'm usually cautiously optimistic at best when it comes to movies based on comic books, but after all the clips I've seen of Ironman so far, I can't help but throw caution to the wind.

Anyway, this is going to be an insanely busy week for me, so I doubt I'll be able to write much here till next Monday, but I'll try to do the best I can.

Okay, that's all for now.

07 / SEP / 07 - 2207 CST : Searching for brevity...

Hey folks.

Two things.  First off, today's strip is done...well, almost.  I'm really not happy with the script I wrote and need to tweak it a bit (and edit it down a lot).  Only at this point I'm sick of staring at it, waiting for the right words to jump out at me, so I'm going to get some sleep and try again when I wake up.

However, if you'd like a bit of a spoiler and take a look at the finished artwork sans-text, then feel free to CLICK HERE.

And the second thing...

What? Noname, not a good enough name for ya?

It seems that my mother is going to have to share her birthday with someone else from now on, as I just got word earlier today that my friends, Stephan and Kristen, have welcomed a new potential Geek Tragedy reader into the world.  Congratz you two!  I'm looking forward to meeting little Jacob Alexander come Christmas!

Okay, now for that sleep I was talking about...

1221 CST : Like a turtle with a pencil...

Hey folks.

Just letting y'all know that the strip will be up today, but at this point I'm not sure when.  All I can tell you is that I'm working on it, but I'm not exactly rushing things.  Normally when I take my time it's because I'm too tired to function at full speed, however this time it's for a different reason.  Today, I'm in just too good of a mood to bother stressing out and pressuring myself.

So yeah, new strip today, but most likely not till much later in the evening.

Oh, and one more thing before I get back to work.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!

06 / SEP / 07 - 1137 CST : Agent vs. Predator...

Hey folks.

Just a couple of quick notes about today's GT˛.

I came up with idea for the strip after my friend, Travis, sent me a link to the movie .  I'm actually pretty excited to see it when it comes out as it looks a hellova lot more exciting than the last one.  Granted, given the fact that the trailer alone shows some dude getting his face melted by alien blood, I'm thinking the movie itself won't exactly be for everyone.  But who knows, maybe it'll be the surprise date move of '07.

Also, yes, I kinda got a bit more foul with my language with this strip.  At least more so than I ever really do with the regular ones.  Personally I see these strips as a completely separate project, so the self imposed rules I've set up for Geek Tragedy (one of which being that I will only use "the 'F' word" when I figure it's absolutely necessary) isn't really going to apply here.  That doesn't mean I'll be throwing that word around in GT˛ like it was

Oh and btw, the next regular Geek Tragedy strip, the one I'll posting on Friday...

Never mind, I'll talk about that tomorrow.

In the mean time, here's a short little bit of flash animation that you may get a kick out of.  Especially if you're big into keeping up with the console gaming wars.

04 / SEP / 07 - 1606 CST : Gag me with a storyline...

Hey folks.

Those of you who have been reading the strip for a while now know that I basically have two types of regular GT strips (I'm not including the GT˛ strips in this equation).  There are the stand alone gag type arcs which have little to no impact on the main story, and those that are completely focused on furthering the underlining plot.

Granted from the time GT started that plot has changed from "Noname tries to get a life" to "Noname tries to not to get killed", but the way I approach dealing with it hasn't.  Now to be perfectly honest, I'd much rather have all the strips deal with the main plot instead of taking up a few weeks each year with some of the "throw-away" strips I do.  This isn't because I don't enjoy doing stories purely for humour's sake.  After all, I try my best to infuse every strip with something that at least resembles a joke.  No, the main reason I like sticking to plot driven strips is quite simply that I have a story I'm just dying to tell y'all, and every time I delay it a bit with unrelated material it feels like I'm throwing myself off pace.

However I'm also well aware of the fact that these "throw-away" strips are still important in a way.  Especially for new readers who may find it kinda hard to jump on board if they have to read a years worth of strips just to know what's going on.

Anyway, I'm bringing this all up now for two reasons.  One, I wanted to let you guys know that in the future I'm going to try my best to put a few more stand alone stories into the mix. And two, after plotting out the the strips for the next few months (right up to Christmas actually), I realized that "the future" probably isn't going to come into affect until 2008.  Still, until then, hopefully the GT˛ strips will be enough to act as sort of way to ease you new readers into the GT universe.

Okay folks, time for talkin' is done.  Bring on the sleep!

03 / SEP / 07 - 1503 CST : Squares away...

Hey folks.

Still working on the regular strip, but I went ahead and posted Tuesday's GT˛ instead as I really don't see being done anytime soon.  Or at least not before I have to crash before work.  But at least this way y'all are still getting an update, right?

Anyway, new regular strip will be up tomorrow, followed by another GT˛ on Thursday.

0744 CST : Possible strip shuffle...

Hey folks.

Two things to tell you about this morning.  First off, I've managed to finish both Geek Tragedy Squared strips for this week.  And secondly, if I don't start making more headway on today's regular strip, I may end up posting the first of this week's GT˛ (yes, I finally learned the command for writing a squared symbol) today, and then post the regular strip tomorrow.  Hopefully not, but it's a possibility.

Okay, back to work!

Later,
